“Why did you stop rampaging? Are you tired? Or are you scared?” Julius asked as he moved closer to the demonic beast. “It doesn’t matter, today you shall meet your end. Swiftly.”
Without wasting any time, Julius severed the beast’s head from its body in one simple move. The demonic beast was at least 4 metres tall, with a chubby body, and yet all Julius had to do was swing his hand once to kill it.
‘Wha?... What was that move just now? That wasn’t magic. Or was it wordless casting? His physic was so strong, even more than mine, which made me think he was an extraordinary aux warrior. Now he can use magic? There’s no way it’s possible for someone to be able to be both. Just who is this kid?’ Zarks thought to himself after he witnessed the short lived battle between Julius and the demonic beast that didn’t even start. The more he saw, the more of a mystery the young man in front of him becomes.
‘So a beast at this level poses no threat to me now. It’s no surprise, and I didn’t even need to expect this since I know how strong I am now, it was only natural.’ “heh. Fuuu.” Julius then turned to face in the direction where the two figures were hiding towards the forest. “Chief Zarks, chief. Hey, old man.”
“Huh? What are you calling my name for?”
“Why are you so spaced out?”
“Oh, sorry about that.”
“Ah, yeah. Take care of this corpse, I’ll be right back.”
“Where are you going now?”
“heh? Haven’t you sensed our two friends hiding around the forest? I’m going to say hi.”
Before Zarks could respond, Julius vanished right in front of his eyes, and at the same time appeared behind one of the men hiding in the forest. While Zarks was getting his men to barricade the place where the demonic beast died so that nobody would get close and get affected by the toxic mana emanating from its body, one of the men hiding in the forest, the one Julius appeared behind, took a gasp of air just before his head was cut off from its body. ‘I only need one of you alive.’
“What tha?” ‘When? When did he get here? I have to flea quickly. The mission has failed. I’ll still go ahead with the other half of the plan and release the remaining demonic beast. That should at least buy me some time to escape.’ “All I have to do is blow this whistle [blows whistle]. It worked, the beasts are free now. That should be enough to catch his attention for sometime so I...” [Stops suddenly] ‘What happened? The beasts went quiet all of a sudden.’
“Impossible. What sort of monster is this? How can one man kill all these demonic beasts this fast and effortlessly?” ‘I need to escape now!’ “Is that even possible?” he thought to himself as he stood there drenched in fear.
“It’s good that you have realizes how pointless running away is. Assassins are meant to stay and execute their missions in the shadows, without interfering with the flow of the outside world directly. But it seems you guys have a different agenda. Now, why don’t you come closer?” Julius said as he instantly appeared before the assassin who was trying to escape.
About an hour later, after he was done extracting information from the assassin by going through recent memories, he explained what he was able to gather from the assassin’s memories to Zarks. By then Ashia had woken up to a destroyed village and another lifeless body of a demonic beast. In as much as she knew her brother was strong, the words of the soldiers saying he used his bare hands to kill the beast were a little off.
“It seems I was asleep throughout the attack brother.”
“It’s ok. Even if you were awake, you wouldn’t be able to contribute much because of your current state.”
“That’s true. Were you able to find and capture any assassin as you planned?”
“Yes. I have gotten all the information I need from the assassin’s memories. Once I restore your mana core and heal your remaining injuries, I’ll be leaving to pay their leader a visit.”
“I see. I’m sorry I couldn’t be of help brother. Next time, surely next time I...” before she finished, Julius placed a hand on her shoulder as he walked passed her.
“Come on now, there is no need to be hard on yourself. The circumstances didn’t allow it this time. There will be more instances in the future, do not fret.”
That night, Julius restored Ashia’s mana core from its broken state and healed her remaining injuries. The process took some time, and eventually, it was morning the next day the time he finished. After restoring the mana core, Ashia’s class that had dropped to the Heaven class after continues deterioration of the core remained the same.
After taking a break from the treatment for half a day, Julius called Ashia for the final part of the treatment. “Ashia, since originally you were at the grandmaster class, it shouldn’t be too difficult for you to attain that level again because you’ve reached it before.”
“Yes. I have no choice but to start again from my current level.”
[With a tired and nonchalant expression] “Who said you were going to start again?”
“What. Do you. Mean. Brother?” Her brother’s response was a little confusing to her. ‘Were there shortcuts? I have never heard of any such thing before.’
[Still with a nonchalant expression and body language] “What do you mean, what do you mean? I mean what I mean...” ‘That doesn’t even make any sense! This girl should just stop asking questions!’ “As you know, a mage can increase their class or stage by absorbing mana into their mana core until they pushed past and break their limits to get to the next stage. Now imagine if instead of going through the process of absorbing mana naturally or through special practice as every mage does or even using an artefact that increases ones mana, imagine if the mana was simply poured into a mages body? What do you think would happen?”
“Hmm. I see where this is going. But have you tried it before?” Ashia asked.
“I haven’t. I have only thought of it and carried out the process theoretically. Honestly, I am sure that there would have been someone who has thought of this method, but probably no one has tried it. Today will be the day we try it out. Are you up to it? Ashia?”
After a short while thinking about it, Ashia made up her mind and strengthen her resolve. There was no going back now, no regrets will be held.
“Let us begin.”
They started the method to rapidly increase Ashia’s magic power around evening, and two days later, they succeeded in making Ashia an Ascension class, first stage mage. Theoretically, it wasn’t supposed to take that long, considering Ashia’s high sensitivity to mana and her good grasp on mana circulation, but as everything in life, there were unforeseen circumstances. Additionally, Julius went ahead to push her past her limit and helped her breakthrough into the Ascension class, first stage. This means she had become stronger than ever before.
Now, four days after the last demonic beast was slain, Julius set out towards the assassin’s hideout. Leaving Ashia behind, and with the goal of finding out where the demonic beasts were gotten from, he ran through and past the forest in sound breaking speeds. In a mere half a day, he arrived at the rocky landscapes he saw in the assassin’s memories. He walked and stood at the edge of a steep, fixating his sight on the cave entrance of the assassin’s hideout.
“Now, how should I greet them?”
