“This surely is disappointing.” The disappointment was clearly shown on Julius’s face.
“Hrk! Number 12! Number 15! Fall back now!” The shadowy figure was now clearly visible, and number 9 something monstrous. He knew he couldn’t handle someone that could beat number 8, his superior so effortlessly. ‘This guy looks simple, but he’s a monster at such a young age. We can’t win, we have to return and report to the leader.’
“Assassin organization huh? The other guys are of higher number so...” As Julius said these words, he turned towards the direction the assassins were fleeing and had gotten just half way to the where their superior’s body lied dead. They all felt a sudden gaze upon their backs, one they didn’t dare try to glimpse. “Don’t need em.”
As Julius completed his sentence, he seemingly appeared in front of number 9 who was in front of the other two. Raising his arm, Julius didn’t hit him because he was cautious of not killing him. Despite that, the damaged received by number 9 was plenty, and he knocked out on impact. As Julius caught number 9’s body by the waist, before it hit the ground, the other two assassins’ bodies crashed on the ground lifeless. He finished them before getting in front of number 9. With another step; he stood before the adventurers, holding number 9’s body in his hand.
“So I guess you are the victims?” He asked while looking at Haggard.
“Ahh, yes yes. We are victims of this attack.” Haggard could barely hide his shaking. As for Lance who was supposed to cast the large area spell, he had already lost control over the spell after something interrupted his casting, just before the first assassin ‘number 8’ was sent flying. It was clear now that the one who cancelled his spell was the young man in rags, Julius.
“Ok, now I’ll be needing clothes. As you can see, the one I’m wearing isn’t particularly presentable. And I can’t use these guys because theirs looks like a uniform. I hope you understand.” Julius said all this while walking towards the foot of one of the gigantic trees, looking as nonchalant as one could ever look.
‘This guy, is he trying to rub us?’ Lance thought to himself.
“In case of any funny thoughts, I am not rubbing you. It’s your choice. Although, not giving me would be kind of ungrateful.”
“Of course not, we are not ungrateful people. Russ, give the young man your clothes. Yours are the closest to his fit.” Haggard said to Russ.
‘Hehehe, perfect. I thought it would be me.’ Lance celebrated in his mind.
“No, those would be too fitted. Let the grandfather offer his, that would be most appreciable.”
‘Huh! Who is this runt calling a grandfather!? Motherfucker, because I got white hair!? I’m not even that older than you probably are! If it wasn’t the fact that you were unnaturally overpowered, I would have roughed you up myself!’ These were only Lance’s thoughts, but even a baby could tell what his was thinking through his expressions.
A while later, Julius was in new clothes, while Lance wore rags. By now Julius had realized the changes in his physical appearance and stopped making a fuss over them, calling him young, but deep inside, he still felt disrespected.
“My name is Haggard. This is my companion and nephew Russ, and the one in rags is Lance. This is...” he went on to introduce everyone of the adventurers before asking for the name of the one who saved them. Julius already knew the name of some members from earlier. He introduced himself as Etta, an alias he always wanted to use.
“This cloth is really comfortable. Now, let’s get information from our friend. Hey Lance, you look more well built than the others. Tie up that guy.” His expression still as nonchalant as ever.
“Come on, can’t we just use a spell to restrict him?” Julius was strong. Strong enough to put Lance on a piece of paper in an instance. But still, Lance couldn’t just bring himself, a member of the legendary adventuring group ‘Dagger Fall’ to dance to the requests which might as well be considered orders, of a boy who is probably his age mate. Impossible! The little pride he has left wouldn’t allow him.
“Ok then, let’s use magic. Does anyone specialize or know any paralyzing magic spell? Or something similar? Nobody?... Hehh, never mind. I’ll do it myself.”
Julius turned towards the unconscious assassin. Without saying a word, his palm released a strange purple smoke that must have entered the assassin’s body when he placed the hand on the assassin’s forehead. This shocked the adventurers. A warrior or aux warrior cannot use magic no matter how much they try or practice, it is just impossible. They can only utilize the mana in their body which capacity cannot be increased above what the individual is born with, to strengthen and enhance their physical body. While mages on the other hand can use the mana in their bodies to cast spells and do other things using magic, cannot use the mana in their body to strengthen it but can enhance their bodies to a certain extent with spells like haste. This boy in front of them is not only leagues stronger than aux warriors, to a point where both can’t even be compared. But can also use magic as difficult to grasp as curse magic. They didn’t know what to make of him. Was he some descendant from the gods, or one himself. One thing was certain; he is not someone they could afford to offend.
With a snap of Julius’ finger, the assassin, number 9, woke up. He immediately tried to run away, but he only moved an inch before falling to the ground once more.
“You shouldn’t move, you know? Or else the pain you just felt will return. The more you move, the more painful it’ll get.”
“Who did this? If you are looking to get information, forget it. Just kill me.”
“Yes of course, the assassin’s code. Do you know why I enjoy questioning assassins? Hehe.” A faint smile appeared on Julius’ face as he finished his sentence. Before 20 minutes, number 9 spilled every information he had. And yet again, Julius tore apart the reality these poor adventurers knew, after using ice and fire magic to torture number 9, using healing magic whenever he was about to die.
“Impossible.” Haggard couldn’t believe what he just witnessed.
“No way...” Lance couldn’t believe his eyes.
“Ahhh...” one of the adventurer who had been injured and was lying on the ground, exclaimed.
Nobody can use more than one form of magic, not even the fabled heroes of old, it was simply impossible. The few who could use 2 forms of magic were cherished by their kingdoms because it meant they had an incredible talent for magic, and would be very useful to their kingdoms. Only Gods could use up to three, and amongst the gods only a couple could use four or five. But here stands a man who could use fire and ice which are polar opposites and are hard to fuse, & healing magic and curse magic which are advanced branches of magic and are hard to grasp the higher you climb. All together, this young boy who is still in his early 20s had used four forms of magic under one hour! Monstrous.
“Excuse me, sir.” Haggard said with a shaking voice. “Ar.. Are you a... Are you a god?” Everybody in the adventuring party was scared to death at this point. This god before them was pissed, and Lance has been disrespectful towards him the whole time. They even dared to call him a boy even after he told them not to. Surely, they were next after the assassin.
“Huh?... Stop talking nonsense. Of course I am not a god.” Although the question was unexpected, Julius understood why they would think that. He couldn’t help but praise the greatness of cultivation once again. ‘Oh pitiful humans. Cultivation is truly superior. Magic might be way versatile than the techniques and stuff that cultivators can do, but cultivators still win when it comes to strength.’ Julius celebrated in his mind as he thought about it. ‘And now I have both the power of cultivation, and the power of magic. Hehehehe, even the gods can’t contain me now. Hahahahahaha.’ “Let’s forget about that for now. After reading this guys memories, it seems the top 20 of the assassins organization and their leader have been boosted physically with some hideous egg looking thing. Which caused them who are mages to have such abnormal strength, even stronger than the best aux warriors. You were lucky that they didn’t train in combat for long, if not you would have been dead a long time ago.”
‘This guy is ruthless. If he could read the assassin’s memories, why bother torturing him? Plus, only magic that deals with fate can read minds...’ “You can also use fate magic!?” Russ couldn’t hold the thought to himself as it can tunnelling through his mouth without him realizing it. All together now, this godly being who denies his identity has used five different types of magic, and shown physical abilities beyond comprehension. ‘He’s definitely one of the top gods. But none of them have these set of abilities... Maybe he is one of the ‘Lost gods of time’ that were rumoured to be the creators of the universe, which they did after combining their powers. That’s the only explanation.’ Russ couldn’t stay calm. Just like everybody else, his mind was racing and at the same time blank. This was overwhelming.
After extracting information from number 9, Julius killed him and buried all their ashes after burning them. The adventurers first thought it was because he was a righteous god, but they soon found out, it was so that the wild beasts in the forest won’t develop a taste for human flesh. Normally, he would just burn the corpses with hell fame, so even their bones don’t remain. But today, he was role playing a powerful, righteous god, things had to be done a little different. He learnt that the adventurers came here in search of an old dragon that had left the mountains to live in a cave with these forests. If they could kill it, they would need no other achievements as an adventuring group. On hearing this, Julius couldn’t help but feel sad for them. ‘My fellow pitiful humans. If only you knew how powerful a dragon is supposed to be! These are all big snakes with legs and wings!’ tears were in Julius’ mental eyes as the heard their story.
After healing all the adventurers into full conditions, he moved them with his ‘flying waves’ magic, which summons a portion of the first waves to ever form on the earth. It could be used in different ways, for attack, for defence, and Julius was the only one who uses it for movement. He found a way to do many impossible things, so to someone who knows him, it wouldn’t really be too shocking. Before long, they were out of the forest, and continued on foot to the nearby town.
