Girls Need Love
Third Person POV
It was Friday again and all Dia could do was look back and smile. It had been almost a whole week and she had made it by the skin of her teeth. It seemed that Chase was more on Izzy than ever before. Every time Dia saw Chase or Izzy they were together, as though they were attached at the hip.
Yesterday morning, she went to the Alpha apartment to meet Aunt/Luna Monica for their early morning run. Sometimes, Dia, Monica, Shannon and Summer went running together. They don’t usually do it during the school year but every now and then, they do.
While Dia, was waiting for Luna Monica to come out, she watched as Izzy snuck out of Chase’s room. When Izzy saw her standing there, she blushed pure embarrassment.
Dia was furious but tried not to show it, she couldn’t show it. She wondered if Chase had told Izzy about them being mates but she realized he probably didn’t.
She hoped that he didn’t because she liked Izzy and would hate to have to kill her.
As Izzy left, Chase walked out of his room, in only pajama pants. When he saw Dia, I smirk appeared on his face. He seemed to be enjoying this. Seeing this Dia, put on her big girl pants and smiled.
“Good Morning, Chase!” Dia greeted with as much gusto and confidence as she could muster.
Chase was taken back. He couldn’t figure her out. He thought seeing another woman leave his room would make her jealous, make her want to claim but her she set in front of him with a smile plastered on her face.
WHAT THE HELL!! Was all he could think of.
“Buenos Dias, Dia” Chase responded, trying to sound as unaffected as she did. Meanwhile, his wolf was whining nonstop! Especially because over time they saw her, the mark was covered. His wolf, and him too if he was honest with himself, couldn’t stand it!
Thankfully, Luna Monica came out of her bedroom, ready to go.
“I’m ready, Dia. Ah, Chase, Buenos Dias, mjio.” She exclaimed as she walked into the kitchen.
“Morning momma,” Chase answered back while kissing her cheek.
“No more talk. Let’s run!” Luna Monica said. With that, she and Dia were off.
Now, it was Friday afternoon and Dia was getting ready for her parents’ anniversary dinner. They were having dinner tonight and then her parents were going on a mini vacay. They were coming back next week just in time for her graduation. She would miss them but, they deserved it. Alphas and Betas typically don’t get to take a vacation while they were the current Alpha and Beta but one week every year, they make an exception.
Putting on her big girl pants, Dia made her way downstairs. Ready for another day of this charade. She was tired of it. It had been a week and nothing from Chase. She had decided today, that she was leaving after graduation.
It was clear to her that Chase didn’t care about her. She just didn’t know how to break it t her parents. Today she has accepted an offer from Texas Southern University. She had always loved Texas and they had offered a full scholarship, not that she needed it, but it was nice not to have to worry about loans.
She hadn’t told anyone yet, not even Summer. She knew that Summer had gotten in too, but she didn’t want to assume she would go with her. It hurt her to imagine living without Summer but if she had to, she would. She couldn’t stay here anymore.
Dia refused to let Chase continue to hurt her.
Just as Dia got to the dining room, she felt bile raise up in her throat. She haltingly made her way to the bathroom, passing Summer on the way.
“Dia, Dia, what’s wrong amiga?” Summer questioned, worry filling her voice. She didn’t wait for a response, she followed her friend, just in time to see her hurl every piece of food, she had eaten that day.
Oh God, the last thing Dia wanted to do was get sick! When she was down, she sat back from the toilet seat to see her best friend staring at her.
“It’s nothing, think it’s a 24-hour bug,” Dia explained as she got up to wash her hands. Summer didn’t say anything just looked on with a knowing look.
“I wanted to talk to you Sum,” Dia said when she finally felt like herself.
“What’s up? We ready to kill the Alpha, I think the two of us can take him.” Summer suggested completely serious.
Dia couldn’t help it, she laughed so hard.
“No, but I love where your head’s at. No, I’ve decided I’m going to go to Texas Southern. It’s an HBCU, I got a full scholarship and I need to be away from here. He doesn’t want me; Sum and it hurts too much! TOO damn much!” Dia explains, tears streaming down her face.
At first, Summer didn’t say anything, just stood there holding her best friend. Her best friend who had been the strong one their whole life. Summer hated seeing her best friend so broken, so wounded! It wasn’t like her.
Damn, Chase for doing this to her. It took everything in Summer to not tell him just how much love to have for him lately. The only reason she didn’t was because of Dia. She knew Dia didn’t want people to know that Chase had rejected her. Dia, already such a Luna, thinking of how much respect the pack would lose for their Alpha for rejecting his Luna.
His last name literally meant Alfa! You would think his ugly ass would live her to it but no such luck.
After a time, Dia calmed down. Summer pulled her out of her arms and looked at her.
“Hey, don’t cry over that asshole. So, Texas, huh. Love that idea. My mother’s family is from there, remember? They actually live right outside of Houston, so Texas Southern is perfect! I’m excited. We’ll be Houston Hotties!” Summer exclaimed clearly excited by the idea.
Her words lifted a weight off of Día’s chest, as much as Dia tried to hide her relief Summer saw it.
“Hey, I hope you didn’t think I was going to let you go that far without me. I told you we’re a packaged deal.” Summer inquiring although she already knew the answer.
“Well,” Dia began “I didn’t want to assume. Your family is here, Summer. How is it fair for me to ask you to leave your family behind? La Familia es mas imporante especially because we are wolves. Your mother’s corazón will break, if you go so far away. Your siblings will miss you. I could never ask you to do that.” Dia rushed out.
“You are my Familia too, Dia. My parents will understand. Plus, we will be with my mother’s family, so she’ll know we’re safe. They can visit! So, stop, you don’t have to ask because there was never any question. You are in a world of pain, that you can’t even allow yourself to truly feel. The moment, you are free of here, all that pain you are holding back is going to surface.
When it does you think I want you to be alone. How could I leave you to live with all that pain alone? I am your hermana, I will always be by your side, so stop! Now let’s go we have dinner to get too!” Summer lectured and grabbed Dia without another word pushing her towards the dining room.
“Sorry, we’re late,” Summer said as the two girls walked into the room.
Finally! Chase thought. He has been sitting here for what felt like forever, waiting for Dia to show. He thought he smelled her thirty minutes ago but then the smell disappeared, and she didn’t come into the room.
He probably imagined. Most likely Blaze and the mate bind trying to go seek her out. Honestly, he wanted too. He was keeping Izzy close to the vest because if he didn’t, he would go after Dia.
She was teasing him, and it was working. He was going f*****g crazy!
Then Dia and Summer walked in and it looked like Dia had been crying. Chase is heart began to ache. Why was she crying? Was it his fault? The entire dinner went by in a blur for Chase. He spent the entire dinner thinking about Dia. Wanting her, every time he looked at her, she looked. She tried to hide it, but he could see it, he could feel it. Since he had marked her, he could feel her emotions if she wasn’t blocking him. All week she had been blocking him, but it seemed tonight her guard was down, and he could feel all her pain.
To stop himself from going to her, he grabbed Izzy’s hand in his.
Izzy looked at him with so much love in her eyes, and Chase smiled back. When he looked back to Dia, her face was emotionless, and he knew she had her walls back up.
Chase knew he should’ve been happy, but he couldn’t find the energy. He couldn’t the energy for lots of things lately.
Dia was right. Her parents loved her gifts to them. The gag gift was matching shirts. Her dad’s shirt said Her b***h and her mom’s said His Owner.
Her mom couldn’t stop laughing and told her they were going to wear the shirts to the airport in the morning. The real gift was matching dog tags, with their anniversaries on them.
“You remembered?” Shannon cried.
“Of course. How could I forget? It was the most important lesson you taught me.” Dia told her mother hugging.
As if on cue Summer, Dia, Shannon, and Monica sang,
“Cause Diamonds are a girl's best friend.” Then began to laugh non-stop. This feels good, Dia thought and it did. Every now and then she captured small moments of happiness, that she latched on to.
These moments gave her hope that happiness was possible. She wanted to find it.
Soon, the dinner was over, and everyone was going their separate ways. Chase, kissed Izzy’s head and told her he needed a run. He didn’t wait for a response before he was out the back door and in wolf form.
The Next Day
Dia woke up feeling refreshed and a little happy but that didn’t last long when she felt the familiar feeling of bile rising in her throat. She made it to her in-suite just in time to hurl all her stomach contents. UGH! She thought I don’t need this. When she was done, she hopped in the shower.
When she got out, she got dressed in some sweats and prepared for wash day and studying. Wash Day was the day that she and Summer washed their hair. For black girls wash day was an all-day process and they loved doing it together. As if on cue, Summer walked into her room.
“Don’t you knock?” Dia asked.
“Nope” Summer responded, popping the p. “You ready??”
“As ready as I’ll ever be,” Dia told her
“Great, me too! Let’s do this!” Summer said as she dragged Dia to the bathroom.
Two hrs. later, both girls emerged from the bathroom, with shower caps on their heads. They had washed, conditioned, detangled, and tamed their curls. Now, they had a deep conditioning mask in their heads.
“Let’s get some studying done. The quicker we’re done with finals, the quicker we graduate.” Dia commanded Summer. Summer nodded her agreement and the two girls got to work. The worked in silence, excepted for music for what felt like minutes until the alarm went off telling them it was time to rinse their hair.
Looking at the time, they saw it was Almost four.
“Wow! We were really in the zone” Summer said.
“Yeah, well I’m glad cause now I’m done!”
“Same,” Summer agreed. “Oh, I accepted my offer from Texas Southern! We are going to be Houston Hotties.”
All Dia could do was laugh out loud. Soon, both of their heads were completely rinsed, and they were applying product for acute wash-n-go style. They had a party tonight. Even though Dia didn’t feel like a party, she knew it might be good to just let loose and have fun. Not like she had a choice; Summer wasn’t taking no for an answer.
In no time, both girls were dressed and ready to go.
“Let’s get some food before we go!” Dia suggested as they walked out of her room.
“Yes, cause the food at the bonfire goes so damn quick. You would think as often as we do this, they would get enough food but noo, never a damn enough.” Summer huffed, very annoyed.
“Calm, down. I’ll make so pasta real fast and then we’ll be good to go.”
-------
The girls had been at the party for about an hour and a half and surprisingly, Dia was having fun. Then she saw Chase enter the party was Izzy, Mason, and Joy. As if feeling her eyes on him, he locked gazes with her. She quickly looked away.
Someone yelled
“KARAOKE!” and Dia immediately perked up. She loved Karaoke. She grabbed Summer’s hand and rushed to the stage.
“Girls Need Love,” Dia told the M.C. He nodded and handed her and Summer microphones. Both girls loved to sing. The beat dropped and all the girls howled.
Dia took the first verse. She looked out into the crowd and found a cute male wolf, Miguel. He had always had a crush on her, and she knew it was wrong to take advantage, but she needed to show Chase she wasn’t pining for him. So, she stared right at Miguel and began to sing.
“Honestly
Honestly, I'm tryna stay focused
You must think I've got to be joking when I say
I don't think I can wait
I just need it now
Better swing my way
I just need some dick
I just need some love
Tired of f*****g with these lame niggas baby
I just need a thug…”
When the song was over, she peeked at Chase and he was pissed off, to say the least but Dia didn’t care. She walked over to Miguel and they started to dance, very close. Dia stopped thinking about Chase and enjoyed being a teenage girl, with no worries.
Chase was beyond pissed. How dare she sing to that… that… that... he struggled to find the word and Blaze was there was the win.
That dead man.
Yes, exactly, that dead man because has going to be a dead man for touching what was his. Began to stomp over there but he stopped himself. This is what he said he wanted. He wanted her to be with someone else. Blaze, however, was not to rational. He was fighting Chase for control. Chase turned away from Dia and Miguel and stalked toward where the alcohol was.
“Hey, man you good?” Mason asked.
“Yeah, I’m good. Just stressed you know.” Chase lied with ease. He couldn’t tell Mason what was wrong. Mason was his best friend and Beta, but he was Día’s older brother first. No way he was going to tell him he was upset because he had rejected Dia and she was dancing with another man.
“Yeah, I know! My wolf has been yapping at me nonstop recently, my dad says that means I’m going to meet my mate soon. I’m excited but nervous.” Mason tells Chase and it hits Chase like a brick.
“I’m happy for you man. If you find your mate, then we can take over! Hopefully, I find my mate too!” Chase tells Mason, lying yet again. Blaze was furious and Chase had to close his eyes to maintain control.
“Exactly, I’m ready for our parents to retire. They deserve it.” Mason says.
“They do. We’re going to be a great team. What are you going to do about Joy when you find your mate?” Chase wonders out loud.
“Dump her. She was always supposed to just be some fun, while I waited for my mate. She knows this. Plus, I’m getting tired of her anyway. She is rude and disrespectful don’t know how she and Joy are friends. They are polar opposites. What about you, what are you going to do with Izzy when you find your mate?” Mason questions.
“We’ll have to break up. She will do the same when she finds her mate. We love each other but we both know nothing compares to the mate bond.” Chase lies yet again.
Chase had lied to his best friend so much in such a small amount of time.
Mason could tell there was something wrong with Chase, but he didn’t want to pry. He knew Chase would tell him the truth sooner or later. Until then she would be there for his best friend. Preparing to take over as Alpha and Beta. Out of nowhere, his wolf started getting really anxious. Mason took a deep breath in and then it hit him, the most delicious smell he has ever smelt in his life.
“Mate,” He growled out in a whisper.
