Feel The Heat

Día’s POV

“Chase?” I asked confused and before he could talk, I ran off running towards the house. My room wasn’t too high so I could make the jump. When I’m close and far enough away I jump. I love feeling the wind pass through my curls. Before I know it, I am back in my room. Safe!

Safe from what? Jaz asks

Chase!

Why would we need to be safe Chase, he’s our mate! She screams.

I know, I know but if he’s our mate how come why haven’t smelled him before?! Why hasn’t he smelled us before? How come we haven’t felt the bond before? We grew up together for Goddess’s sake. Why wouldn’t she let us know before today? She knew our pain Jaz, HELL even his pain and still nothing! I shout at her.

My head is throbbing from all our yelling put I can’t say this out loud. Even whispering is dangerous, because of damn werewolf hearing and the fact that there are too many people in this damn house.

I don’t know, Dia! I don’t know but we know now! Why did you run! We have been looking for mate and he was right there, and you ran! Why?!

I don’t know, Jaz! It was Chase! Freaking Chase! Chase can’t be our mate! He’s with Izzy. They have been together forever! I like Izzy, her and Chase are in love. I can’t be the one to ruin that!

SHUT UP! Jaz screams so loud. He is out mate! It is not ruining things if he is our mate! We deserve him! He was made for us! Izzy has her own mate out there! They may be in love, but it is nothing compared to our mate bond! You shouldn’t have run! Go back, go back to mate!

I can’t damn it! I have loved Chase all my life, I had hoped he was my mate but now that he is. I don’t know! It feels weird! I admit to her but more to myself.

I know, Dia but he is our mate, our mate. The Moon Goddess created him just for us. He is ours. Go to him tomorrow talk it out! Don’t run, Dia please for me!

You’re right, I know you’re right! This is good. My mate is the Alpha of my pack, I won’t have to leave my family or my friends! I won’t have to go traveling looking for him. Maybe he and Mason can come with Summer and I and we can look for their mates. It could be fun and then when we come back, he, Mason and I can take our new positions. Yeah, I love that. I know, I am. I usually am! I’m the smarter one.

And for the first time, I fell asleep with a smile on my face. I had a mate! My mate was Chase Alfa, Jr. I had my very own Alpha!

In what felt like seconds, I was jolted awake. My skin was on fire and my throat felt so dry. I couldn’t even swallow! I see Jaz in my mind, and she is actually on fire. Scared I call out to her!

Jaz, Jazmine, what’s happening to us!

HEAT!

Oh s**t! Heat why didn’t I think of that! When a female werewolf meets her mate, she has only 72 hrs. before she goes into heat! Heat is this feeling of intense arousal for female wolves! It believed to be created so mates can’t reject each other. The heat gives of just a sweet smell that no unmated male wolf can deny, it is an especially pungent smell for that female’s mate. The only way to completely stave the first heat is to mate with your mate and be marked!

Oh god! I intense pain shot through my body! I look at my phone its 5 in the f*****g morning. I don’t wanna mate with Chase yet, we haven’t worked out what’s going on. I’ll just have to ride this out alone. If anyone finds out I’m in heat, they’ll know I met my mate and I am not ready for the conversation yet. Not until I talk to Chase and we accept each other.

I quickly pack a bag and grab my laptop and phone. I jump out my window and start running, in human form! In no time I hear the water, I’ve made it! The pack has some cabins at the edge of our territory.

They are retreat cabins for families, mates and pack members to come and just relax. There a lot of them scattered all over, this clearing. My family has our very own. I love it! Being a wolf, I love being out in the woods, but I don’t enjoy sleeping in them. Mason says I’m a princess like that!

As I unlock the door, a sharp pain shoots to my core and I can’t breathe. Somehow, I fumble through unlocking the door. I stumbled in and flopped on to the floor, sweating. I grab my phone and text my mom.

D: Out at the cabin. Wanted to relax and be alone. Love you, mwah.

Then I text Summer, so she doesn’t come out here.

D: Know you’re asleep but wanted you to know I went out to the cabin. I need to think! Love ya, see you on Monday!

Then I turn off my phone and pull myself up to my room. The moment my head hits the pillow I am sleeping again. Thank the Goddess! Too bad that doesn’t last long. For the second time today, I am jolted awake from pain! My heart is racing so fast and I know I am burning up! I need to cool down.

We shouldn’t have down this alone, Dia.

I know, I know but we had too! We can do this, Jaz we have too! If we survive this heat, I promise we will talk to Chase.

Okay, okay! You’re right, we can make this. It should allow last through Sunday night. We can do this. If we are doing this, then you need to trust me!

I will! Let’s do this!

This is what I love about me and Jaz, we fight like cats and dogs but when the time comes, we are a brilliant time. She has my back and I have hers.

What first, mi lobo? I ask chuckling.

Yes, I am but lobo sounds gross. Let’s take a bath. But as cold as possible.

I think we have ice in the walk in.

Sure, enough there was bags of ice in the freezer.

I lug two bags of ice to my bathroom. I have a huge as bathtub because I love baths. I fill the tub up with cold water and pour the ice in. I am somehow sweating more. This is going to suck.

Before I can talk myself out of doing this, I get undress and hop completely in. So damn cold but somehow, I am not shivering. It feels good.

See I told you! Jaz says patting herself on the back. In my mind, I see the fire around her stifling.

I know, thank you. Now let just relax and cool down.

Quickly, I am cool and tired and sleep!

When I wake up, I’m hot again! Soo freaking hot!! What the hell!

Jaz, why are we hotter?

Cause Dia, before it gets better, it has to get worse. Remember heat is meant to make us mate. Not only our smell but if mate was here, he wouldn’t be able to see us in all this pain. I’m sorry, chica.

It’s not your fault. We’re in this together! I’ll drain the tub, fill it up again and get more ice.

And I do just that and in no time, I am back in the tub and I feel so good again. I never thought I would be happy to be in an ice bath. I used to make fun of Mason and Chase doing them after football, basketball, baseball or training but now I get it! I let my body relax again. Time for another nap!

Chase’s POV

*in the woods right before he finds out Dia is his mate *

My wolf has been going crazy for days. I don’t know why but it is making me irritable. I’ve been running twice a day every day for a week, but he still won’t shut up! It’s to the point where I can’t be around Izzy, I’ve been scaring her. She says I haven’t been, but I can tell.

Who cares about her? She isn’t my mate, our mate. My wolf Blaze says.

Don’t talk about her like that! We love her!

No, you love her. I am waiting to love our mate. You are the one spending your time with that w—

Don’t you even dare! You don’t talk about her like that!

And he does! We run and we run, and we run some more. I hate to admit it, but Blake is right. I have Izzy so I haven’t been putting in much effort finding my mate. I wanted Izzy to be my mate, but I know she isn’t. The truth is I am settling for Izzy because when she and the girl I really wanted turned out to not be my mate, weren’t I just gave up! Those were the only two girls I thought was good enough to be my mate, to help lead my pack. Soon, I feel the temperature drop and realize the moon is high. We’ve been running longer than I realized.

I’m taking over, Blaze.

I don’t give him time to react before I do just that!

Soon, I’m back at my clothes, shifting. When the most delicious hits my nose!

MATE! MATE! MATE! Blaze is screaming in my head.

I know dummy relax!

I put on my pants and start walking around. I round the tree and I find the source of that smell!

It’s Dia! It’s f*****g DIA!

Without warning my wolf is in control!

MATE! He says! She looks at us.

“Chase?!” she asks before she’s off.

Follow her! Blaze yells.

Give me control!

Fine but I want mate!

I didn’t realize that we were back at the house and in my room until I heard my name. My head snaps up. Hoping it’s Dia but it’ Izzy.

“Chase, where have you been?” She asks kissing my cheek.

“Running,” I tell her walking towards the bathroom. I quickly shower. I want to get dressed and go talk to Dia.

When I walk out of the bathroom, Izzy is still here. I hate to say, that I am annoyed.

“Do you want to watch a movie tonight?” She asks me. I want to say no. Blaze is in my head screaming no! But she is looking at me with puppy dog eyes and I can’t say no.

I’ll talk to Dia in the morning.

“Sure! Sorry I’ve been so irritable lately. Blaze has been driving me crazy.” I tell her.

“No, worries I know how it is! I figured I’d give you your space but now no more space! I miss my Alpha!” She says kissing me.

We are not her Alpha! Blaze screams, he is threatening to take over.

Relax, damn it!

I breathe and smile at her. She has called me her Alpha before but not knowing about Dia, it feels dirty! It shouldn’t feel dirty, I love Izzy. Izzy is my girlfriend has been since we were 16!

I relax and watch the movie with Izzy. The next thing I remember is feeling pain and sun! So much pain!

Blaze, what the hell is going on?

It’s mates she’s in pain. In heat.

She can’t be in heat! I would be able to smell it. Maybe she’s having a bad dream. Yeah, that’s it!

Blaze is screaming in my head but soon I win and I’m back asleep. When I wake up again, Izzy is gone and so is the pain.

I told you, it was nothing Blaze. I tell him smugly.

Whatever let’s go talk to her.

First, let’s eat. We burned a lot of calories last night.

Fine! You’re in charge, they tell me.

I laugh and walk downstairs.

“Good morning all!” I say to everyone. I scan the kitchen and don’t see Dia. I want to ask about her but don’t want to make it obvious. As if reading my mind Mason asks

“Donde esta, Dia?” (Where is Dia?)

Both his mom and Summer start to speak at the same time and then laugh.

“She’s out at the cabin. She said she wanted to be alone to think. You know she does that every now and then. “Her mom tells the room.

Immediately Blaze is yapping at me. Telling me to go to her and I want to, but she ran from us twice.

She didn’t run. She’s in heat and knew her scent would draw other men. She went there to be space. Go to her stupid.
