The Boy With Green Eyes

--- Chapter 2: The Boy with Green Eyes The Academy halls were always bustling with energy. It was a mix of excitement, tension, and something else Eira couldn’t quite place—a feeling of unpredictability. But as she walked through the corridors, making her way to her next class, she felt strangely calm. She had spent most of her time since arriving at the Academy trying to avoid drawing attention to herself. After all, without powers, she was an easy target for ridicule. But today, something felt different. Today, something was about to change. As she turned the corner, lost in her thoughts, she nearly bumped into a figure standing in her path. She stopped abruptly, her heart skipping a beat as her eyes locked onto his. A boy, probably around her age, stood before her. His hair was a deep chestnut, falling messily over his forehead, and his piercing green eyes were focused on her. There was something about the way he looked at her—intense like he could see straight through her. “Sorry,” Eira mumbled, stepping aside to let him pass. But the boy didn’t move. Instead, he continued to study her, his gaze lingering a little too long. It made her feel exposed as if he knew something about her that she didn’t even know herself. “Are you lost?” he finally asked, his voice quiet but firm. Eira shook her head, confused. “No... I’m just on my way to class.” He raised an eyebrow, a small smirk tugging at the corner of his lips. “General Studies?” Eira felt a flicker of embarrassment. Of course, he knew. Everyone at the Academy seemed to know who she was—the powerless girl stuck in a world of extraordinary kids. “Yeah,” she replied, her voice a little sharper than she intended. The boy nodded, but there was no judgment in his eyes. Instead, he seemed... curious. Almost intrigued. “I’m Finn,” he said, offering her a small nod of acknowledgment. “Eira,” she responded, though she was still unsure why he was talking to her. Most kids either ignored her or went out of their way to remind her of how different she was. For a moment, neither of them said anything, the silence stretching between them. Eira shifted uncomfortably under his gaze, unsure of what to do or say. But there was something about Finn that was different from the others. He wasn’t looking at her like she was less than them. If anything, he looked like he was trying to figure her out. “See you around, Eira,” Finn finally said, his voice soft, before turning and disappearing down the hall. Eira stood there for a moment, staring after him. Something about that interaction left her unsettled, though she couldn’t quite figure out why. Finn was like no one she’d met before—his presence seemed both calm and intense, and it lingered with her long after he was gone. --- Later that Day: The rest of the day passed by in a blur. Eira went through the motions in her classes, trying to absorb what the teachers were saying about history, math, and the sciences behind the strange powers the other students possessed. But her mind kept wandering back to Finn. She couldn’t shake the feeling that there was something more to him than met the eye. And the way he had looked at her—like he knew something about her—kept replaying in her mind. By the time classes ended, Eira felt drained, her head spinning with thoughts she couldn’t fully process. She made her way out of the building, eager for the cool air to clear her mind. But as she stepped out into the academy courtyard, she saw him again. Finn was leaning casually against a tree near the edge of the grounds, his arms crossed over his chest. His eyes—those striking green eyes—were fixed on her once again, watching as she approached. For a moment, Eira considered walking the other way. But something in her pulled her forward, drawing her to him despite the nervous flutter in her chest. “Are you following me?” she asked, her tone half-joking, half-serious. Finn smiled, though it didn’t quite reach his eyes. “No. Just... waiting.” “For me?” Finn didn’t answer right away. He uncrossed his arms and stepped closer to her, his expression growing more serious. “There’s something about you,” he said quietly, his voice almost too soft to hear. “You don’t belong here.” Eira blinked, taken aback by his words. “I know that,” she said, bitterness creeping into her voice. “Everyone reminds me of that.” Finn shook his head. “That’s not what I meant. You don’t belong in the General Studies. You don’t belong among the powerless.” Eira’s heart skipped a beat, confusion swirling in her mind. “What are you talking about?” He hesitated, glancing around as if to make sure no one was listening. When he spoke again, his voice was lower, more urgent. “I’ve seen you before, Eira. Not here—somewhere else. You’re not what they think you are. And I don’t think you even know it yet.” A cold chill ran down Eira’s spine. What was he saying? She had no powers—she was ordinary, normal. But the way Finn was looking at her, the certainty in his eyes, made her question everything. “I don’t understand,” she whispered. Finn took a step back, his expression unreadable. “You will,” he said simply. “Soon.” Before Eira could respond, Finn turned and walked away, leaving her standing alone in the courtyard, her mind racing with questions she couldn’t answer. --- That Night: Eira lay in bed, staring up at the ceiling of her dorm room, the events of the day replaying in her mind over and over. What had Finn meant? Why was he so sure that she didn’t belong among the powerless? How could he possibly know her when they had only just met? Sleep came slowly, her thoughts tangled in a web of confusion and uncertainty. And when she finally drifted off, the dreams came. In her dreams, she was surrounded by darkness; the only sound was the faint hum of energy that filled the air. She could feel something powerful inside her, something buried deep beneath the surface, just waiting to be released. But every time she reached for it, it slipped through her fingers, disappearing into the void. And through it all, she saw those same green eyes watching her, calm and intense as if they held all the answers she was searching for.
