Chapter 16 — Morning After

1350 Words
The first light of morning crept softly into the suite, spilling across the large room and painting everything in gold and rose hues. The air was still warm from the night before, a lingering heaviness of intimacy, of whispered confessions, of touches that had left their marks on both of them — on skin, on hearts, on memories. Aiden was awake first, lying beside Noah, his head propped on one arm. He watched him sleep, the slow rise and fall of his chest, the soft lines of his face softened in the morning light. His hand brushed against Noah’s, gently tracing the curve of his fingers. He felt a warmth rush through him, not just from desire, but from something deeper — the need to claim, to protect, to never let go. Finally, he spoke, voice low and hoarse, hesitant but determined: “Noah…” Noah stirred, blinking his eyes open slowly. His lips curved into a soft smile as he met Aiden’s gaze, sleepy but warm, tired yet still carrying that spark of mischief that always unraveled Aiden in seconds. Aiden took a deep breath, heart pounding, hands gripping Noah’s just a little tighter. “I… I have to ask you something,” he murmured, voice trembling with a mixture of fear and hope. Noah tilted his head, curious. “What is it?” Aiden swallowed, feeling the weight of the last few weeks — the stolen moments, the tension, the kisses, the fights with jealousy, the emotional rollercoaster. “Noah… I don’t want to pretend anymore. I don’t want to just… feel this without saying it. Please… please be my boyfriend.” Noah froze, his heart skipping a beat. The room seemed to shrink around them. The weight of the words hung heavy in the air, electric, demanding attention. He blinked, unsure, confused, yet the warmth in his chest made his lips curl into a small, shy smile. “Be… your boyfriend?” Noah repeated softly, voice a whisper, almost breathless. “You… you want me?” Aiden nodded, eyes serious, intent. “More than anything. I can’t imagine this… us… any other way. Please, Noah. Say yes.” Noah’s lips quivered as he laughed softly, a mix of nervousness and relief. “Yes,” he whispered, almost shyly. “Yes, Aiden… I’ll be your boyfriend.” Aiden’s face softened, a triumphant, relieved smile spreading across it. He leaned forward, pressing his lips gently to Noah’s forehead, then his temple, then finally, a tender kiss on his lips. Noah’s hand found Aiden’s hair, tugging lightly, deepening the kiss, a soft moan escaping as the emotion of the moment hit both of them. For a moment, the room was perfect. Just them. The world outside ceased to exist. The sun illuminated their bodies, their faces close, their hearts beating together in rhythm. The Glow of Trouble Noah pulled back slightly, breathing heavily, smiling against Aiden’s lips. “I… I feel like I’ve been waiting for this forever,” he whispered. Aiden chuckled softly, nuzzling him. “Me too. Me too, Noah. And now… now it’s real.” Noah’s phone buzzed suddenly on the nightstand. The glow of the screen lit his face. He reached for it, frowning slightly. Aiden watched, curious. Liam. The message was simple, yet every word cut into the calm of the morning: “Noah… we need to talk. Urgent.” Noah’s heart skipped. He looked at Aiden, who immediately noticed the change in expression. “What’s wrong?” Aiden asked, his tone low, protective. “No… it’s Liam,” Noah murmured, fingers hovering over the screen. “He… he wants to talk.” Aiden’s jaw tightened, eyes narrowing. “About what?” he demanded. But Noah didn’t answer. He was too stunned by the tension suddenly invading their sanctuary. The Conversation Noah’s fingers typed quickly, responding cautiously. Noah: “What is it, Liam? Why now?” Seconds later, the reply came: Liam: “I can’t just let this slide. Meet me. Please.” Noah’s pulse raced. He looked at Aiden, who was already standing, pacing slightly, protective instincts kicking in. “Do you want to meet him?” Aiden asked, voice sharp but calm. Noah hesitated. “I… I don’t know. I feel like I have to. But…” He swallowed, glancing at Aiden. “I don’t want to hurt you. I… I just…” Aiden stopped pacing and grabbed Noah’s hands, holding them firmly. “Hey,” he said, voice softer but heavy with warning. “No matter what happens, I’m here. Okay? You don’t have to face anything alone. And if he crosses a line… he’ll regret it.” Noah nodded, heart pounding. The protective energy radiating from Aiden gave him courage. But the fear of confrontation, of Liam, of everything that could unravel… it gnawed at him. The Build-Up of Jealousy Hours passed as they stayed in the hotel, trying to focus on calmness, the aftermath of the previous night, and the new reality of their relationship. Every laugh, every touch, every smile between them was filled with electricity, but Liam’s presence — even via a simple message — cast a shadow over their peace. Aiden refused to leave Noah’s side. He made sure every glance, every touch, every whisper was a reminder that Noah was his. Protective, possessive, yet tender. Noah’s phone buzzed again. Liam: “I just need ten minutes. That’s all.” Noah sighed. He wanted to respond, but the words caught in his throat. He looked at Aiden. Aiden’s eyes locked on his. “You don’t have to. You don’t have to do anything you don’t want to. But if you must… I’m coming with you.” Noah’s lips curved into a soft, appreciative smile. “I… I think I can handle this,” he whispered, but Aiden’s firm hold on his hand made it clear — whether he thought he could handle it or not, he wasn’t alone. Emotional Confessions As they sat together, Noah resting his head against Aiden’s chest, the glow from the phone illuminated them both. He felt the steady beat of Aiden’s heart beneath him. And in that moment, everything became clearer. “I…” Noah started, voice trembling slightly. “I didn’t know what to feel after last night. It was… overwhelming.” Aiden ran his fingers through Noah’s hair gently. “I know,” he said softly. “I felt it too. But it’s real now. We’re real. And nothing — no one — can change that.” Noah closed his eyes, letting the comfort wash over him. “Even Liam?” Aiden’s lips pressed a kiss to the top of Noah’s head. “Especially Liam. But trust me… he’ll see soon enough. You’re mine, Noah. And I’m not letting go.” Noah’s heart swelled. The world outside could throw anything at him. Exams, school, Liam, rumors, pressure — nothing mattered as long as this, as long as Aiden, was here. He looked up, meeting Aiden’s gaze. “I… I trust you,” he whispered. “And I trust you,” Aiden said, leaning in, capturing his lips once more. This kiss was softer, sweeter, but no less intense — a promise, a claim, a declaration that this morning, this new day, belonged to them. The Tension Builds Noah’s phone buzzed again. Another message. Liam was insistent. But now, Noah felt something new — courage, belonging, protection. He knew Aiden would not let him be alone with anyone who might try to shake their bond. The morning stretched on, filled with lingering touches, whispered reassurances, and soft laughter. Every glance, every handhold, every heartbeat was an affirmation of what they now shared. And when the time finally came to respond to Liam, Noah felt ready. Not alone. But together. Aiden’s hand on his knee, fingers intertwined with his, was a constant reminder — whatever confrontation, whatever tension came, they would face it side by side. Noah’s thumb hovered over the screen. Liam was waiting. The world could wait. Because for the first time in weeks, Noah felt grounded, safe, and… loved.
