Chapter Seventeen Caleb

There was now a wolf standing outside waiting for my mate. There was something strange about this wolf though. An aura of power radiated off him and I felt my coyote whimper in submission.

This was not good. The man was standing with his arms behind his back in a relaxed military stance. His body was completely muscled and I frowned, I was muscled as well and no slouch but this man put my body to shame.

“Greetings coyote, we need to talk about our mate’s sister.” I narrowed my eyes at him, the tattoo on his arm marked him as a shaman. Sighing I closed my eyes and bowed slightly at the waist.

“Wolf,” the door slammed open and I saw Tawny burst into the room, the wolf looked at her and then back to me. “This is my second in command Tawny.”

Talon strolled in behind Tawny with some clothes, he looked the wolf up and down and then let out a whistle. Staring at the clothes in his arms he shook his head and placed them on Jolene’s bed.

Jolene, what was she going to do? She could barely accept the fact that shifters were real, let alone that I was her mate. Now she has two mates? How is this going to work? I could not compete with this man.

“He’s an Alpha, oh my goddess the power coming off him.” Tawny sunk to her knees bowing her head and exposing her neck. I was an Alpha as well, but in the hierarchy of power, this man was the grand Alpha, the one who even reigned over me.

“I don’t think these clothes are going to fit you, sir.” I scowled and pulled a face at Talon, he gave me a lopsided grin.

“Please just call me Phoenix.” I choked on the words that wanted to come out and rolled my eyes, what a cliché name.

“What tribe are you from Alpha?” Tawny’s voice still held awe and her eyes were all starry looking.

“I am far from home. I am from Montana and the Blackfoot tribe.” His voice had a timbre that seemed to vibrate in my bones. This had to be the power of an Alpha.

“What are you doing here on the East Coast?” What was he doing so far from his home?

“Where is our mate?” He slipped his clothes on and was looking around for Jolene, his hair fell over his face as he bent down to try and pull the pants up.

“About that Phoenix sir, try to keep the whole talk about mates to a minimum. She is still trying to process the whole shifter thing as well.” I shot Talon an annoyed look. This man doesn’t need to know all our business.

“He is going to find out eventually Caleb.” Narrowing my eyes at him he shrugged and closed the door. He glanced up and down the hall and then placed a ward on the door to keep Jolene from hearing what we were discussing.

Phoenix folded his long legs and sat on the floor, he scratched the back of his neck and fixed his amber eyes on us. Sighing heavily he looked at his hands in his lap and looked like the weight of the world was on his shoulders.

“How could she not know about her heritage and what she is? How could she not know about us and mate bonds?” I pinched the bridge of my nose and wanted to pace the room but I was trying to keep my impatience in check.

“There was a point to you being here?” My voice was a growl and I wanted to get back to Jolene.

“Such an impatient puppy. Time is of the essence though so I will get to the point. I found our mate’s sister.” Talon and Tawny’s heads snapped up and my breath caught in my chest.

“I sense a but though.” Phoenix let out a hum and I really wished he would hurry up and spill the location.

“Yes, there is an entity that has been following the sisters around. This entity could cause trouble later so I bound him to the other one.” Gritting my teeth, I glowered at Phoenix.

“So where is the sister? If we can bring the sister back then our mate could be happy.” I just wanted her to be happy though.

“By the time we find the sister again, she will be long gone along with the mother. I can somewhat track the entity, but the further he gets, the fainter the connection is.” I slammed my fist down on the floor and everyone flinched.

“WILL YOU JUST GET TO THE POINT!” Phoenix’s eyes flashed and his Alpha powers washed over me causing me to fall to my knees and groan in pain. I would not bow to him willingly and I will not apologize for my outburst.

“Caleb, please calm down.” I snarled at Talon and he just looked bored.

“The two were rescued the shadow is with them. However, once they leave the hospital, they will be in the wind again. It is going to be a long time before they find her again.” He looked worried and stared out the window.

“There is one more mate for her. There is a darkness to this town though and the sooner we are all together to protect our mate the better.” He stood up and stretched.

“If you would please show me to a place to rest I must sleep and then we can discuss more with our mate later.” That was it, he was dismissing us and there was nothing I could do about it. Talon watched us and shook his head.

“If I may suggest something, I think we need to let our girl follow the path that she is currently on no matter how painful it is. So we should keep the whereabouts of her sister to ourselves. I do not want to freak her out too much.” We all nodded and turned to look at Tawny.

“What do you guys think I’m going to do? I have no desire to actually defy an Alpha, I bet he could rip my little coyote body to shreds. So no I am going to keep my mouth shut. You better do something fast though because she is on her way back.” Tawny yawned and rolled her neck.
