Chapter Eighteen Marie

655 Words
Mother sat with me as long as she could and then they wheeled her back to her room. I was still feeling uneasy about the man who claimed he was my boyfriend. What if he was the person who actually kidnapped us? Something was telling me I needed to make a call, I had someone waiting for me. Frowning I picked at the blanket on the bed and sighed. Why could I not remember anything? “Honey, what seems to be the problem?” He walked back in and I didn’t even know his name, staring down at my hands, the nails were cut and my hands were scraped up. “I don’t remember much. I don’t know why I can’t remember.” I looked up tears in my eyes and his face softened. For a brief second, I could have sworn I saw a red chain connecting the two of us. Shaking my head slightly, dizziness came over me and I decided not to do that again. The man sat next to me again. He took my hand and I wanted to pull away and call for security, he looked so sad and I knew I couldn’t send him away. “The doctor said that the amnesia is temporary and has to do with the stress of the situation.” He rubbed his thumb across my knuckles and it felt nice. It was still odd that he was claiming to be my boyfriend. “I suppose that makes sense.” I wanted to ask my mom questions about what happened but the man was there hovering over us and I didn’t want to discuss it with him in the room. “Come on darling, you will be out of here soon enough and we will be able to get your memories back bit by bit.” He had a pleasant tone to his voice; his eyes were a stormy gray color and he had wavy mahogany hair. He was attractive, but nothing about him felt familiar, or right. I started nibbling on my nails and looked out the window. How long has it been since I have gone missing? The man sighed and I turned my attention back to him. How did we meet? I remember I was a model; did we meet at a shoot? Smiling at him I patted the bed and he climbed in beside me. “I don’t know your name or how we met. Maybe we should start with that?” The nurse came in and frowned when she saw the two of us in bed. Checking the IV she injected something in it, and my eyes started feeling heavy. “She will be out in a few minutes; you shouldn’t stress her too much.” The man glared at the nurse as she huffed out of the room. Why was she so angry? “Forget about her please answer my questions.” The fuzziness crept into my brain and he wrapped his arms around me gently. “We met at one of your photo shoots in New York. I was an extra and you were wearing this fairy tale dress. It was love at first sight.” I hummed in approval, I remembered that shoot, it was one of my favorite photo shoots. “You kept calling me Shadow because I was following you around like a shadow, I thought you were going to call the cops on me because of that.” He let out a chuckle and it rumbled through my body. “So my real name is Elijah Northwood. But you can call me Shadow if you want.” He grinned crookedly at me and I couldn’t help but smile back. He kissed me on the tip of my nose and I slipped into a cloud of drug-induced bliss. If my memory loss is temporary that was a good thing, but something still felt wrong.
