This was all my fault. They kidnapped an innocent woman and now I couldn’t find her. The people who took us obviously did not know I could turn into a fox.
They removed Marie and her mother; I can now safely escape and track them. I still did not know why they kidnapped us. I just assumed it was because of my money and status.
Now, I am not convinced it was because of me. I dug my way out of the shed and slunk around the trailer the kidnappers were staying in.
I needed to know where they took Marie and her mother. I also needed to know who they were and why they targeted us.
“I am telling you we should just take the money we have, leave a note for the park rangers and run.” The skinny man was not one of the people who took us. He was already here when we arrived.
The man paced and another man and woman sat hunched over the table. A bottle of cheap vodka was in the middle of the table. They all wreaked of body odor and alcohol.
My nose twitched, and I caught her scent and the scent of something else in the woods. Someone else was here watching me. Turning my head I caught sight of a bobcat stalking toward me.
I’m not food little kitty, you may just want to go stalk some other prey. The cat sat at the edge of the woods and licked its paws.
I know you aren’t food. These idiots will not tell you what you need to know. I have had my mates looking for your friend.
I thank you for that, I want to know why they kidnapped me though.
The cat moved closer and stretched as she sat down next to me. She licked her shoulder and yawned.
The crows talk, they were saying it was because of the older woman. She does not smell right and I am sure you have noticed.
I did notice something was off with Marie’s mother but it would be extremely rude to say anything about it.
Come back to my place with me. The police will be here soon and you do not want to be implicated in any of this.
My prints and DNA are all over this place though. I was a victim why do they think that I could possibly be a criminal?
Human police are so predictable and well kind of stupid, we need more of our kind in positions like law enforcement. My one mate is a prominent lawyer so if they do bring drama to our door. He can help.
What choice did I have? I needed answers and I had to find Marie. She might not have been my mate but she was an innocent person caught up in this drama. I cast a last glimpse through the window and followed the bobcat into the woods.
We ended up near a lake by a lovely chalet that was tucked into a stand of pine trees. The air was cool and it was fresh. Unlike the stale air that was at my temporary prison.
The cat shifted and a blonde woman stretched her hair cascading down her back in a curtain of loose waves.
“My name is Bella, welcome to my home. My mates Theo and Bernard are home tonight. Tina and Felix are at work.” I shifted to my fox form and was grateful for the fact that a shaman once taught me how to shift with clothes.
Bella raised an eyebrow and pouted her full lips. She was pretty but she also had a lot of plastic surgery done on her body.
“Gideon O’Connor. I appreciate the help and any information you may have.” I followed her into the chalet and was greeted by the scent of fresh baked goods and incense.
“Honeys I’m home! We have a guest. Remember the little fox I told you about well he is here looking for a girl.” A man with wire-rimmed glasses and curly hair stood up from the couch and smiled at us.
“Tina has been scouting and may have some information soon. I am Theo, and Bernie is in the kitchen cooking dinner.” He grabbed his tablet and hit the off button.
“I am going to take a shower honey, tell our little fox what the crows have said.” He kissed her on the cheek and she giggled as she flounced up the stairs.
I heard that some shifters had more than one mate. How did it all work for them though? Wouldn’t there be jealousy among the mates?
“I am sure you have a lot of questions but come, you must be hungry. Or would you prefer to change clothing and have a hot shower?” I was actually very tired and wanted to just get back to my own home and sleep.
I couldn’t however, I still needed to find my mate and Marie was the key to finding her.
