I grew stronger each day and while I still couldn’t shake the feeling that I was forgetting something, I also grew to love Elijah. I suppose it was inevitable because we were dating. It just annoyed me that I could not remember him.
Mother decided she had enough of us and said she was going to spread her wings and fly. I also knew she was forgetting something as well. It seemed she had a business but Elijah said that everything was taken care of a bit ago.
We drove her to the airport and she was jetting off to Rome. Sighing I scrubbed my hands over my face and leaned heavily against Elijah.
I had grown weaker since my stay in the hospital and everything seemed to exhaust me. The doctors told me it was because my body was without adequate water and nutrition for a long time.
I grew tired of arguing with the doctors when I told them that it didn’t feel that long. I glanced at my watch and wanted to cancel the appointment with the therapist this afternoon. I wanted to glance through photos and explore online for shreds of my old life.
“Oh my gosh Marie!” A skinny blonde woman in sky high heels was rushing over to me, she was dragging her carry-on bag behind her. I vaguely remembered her; she grabbed me into a hug and I was enveloped in a cloud of expensive perfume.
“It has been so long! I heard about what happened to you. Oh, hello, who are you?” She was babbling a mile a minute and Elijah looked very uncomfortable. Was he not around when she was modeling with me?
“I’m her boyfriend Elijah Northwood. Pleased to meet you.” He extended his hand and shook hers. A furrow deepened between her brows as she looked at the two of us.
“I don’t remember you saying anything about having a boyfriend. I know you girl; you were always son the prowl and looking for Mr. Right and Mr. Right Now.” She giggled but the worry was still on her face.
That struck something with me and then it disappeared into the fog that was my brain. Sighing I glanced down at my feet cursing my stupid brain for not cooperating with me.
“Are you still with the agency? They have been trying to get a hold of you for a while.” She was eyeing Elijah with an accusatory glower.
“I lost my phone before everything happened and just haven’t had a chance to get a new one. I also seem to have lost some of my memories. I know your face but can’t place your name.” Embarrassment washed over me when she gave me a look full of pity.
“I’m sorry, I forgot about that. I heard the rumors but I thought it was just some kind of bender you went on after sampling your mother’s products.” She gave a nervous titter of laughter and shifted from foot to foot.
“Let us start over. Marie I am Becky Kesler. We used to do many shoots together and I miss my bestie.” She wrote something down on a piece of paper and handed it to me. It was her name, email, and phone number.
“I will let the agency know that you lost your phone and will contact them when you can. When you are ready just drop me a line and we can chat ok? I need to get home to Sebastian before he wrecks the house.” She gave me an air kiss on each cheek and tottered off casting worried looks over her shoulder.
Elijah let out a breath he was holding, he was watching her as well and I grabbed his hand. I wanted to go back to our apartment and curl up to watch some bad reality tv. Of course I needed to get a cellphone first.
He smiled at me and kissed my knuckles sending flutters through my stomach. “Honey, I think I need to get a cellphone. If I have an agency and I am still under contract I will need to start working again.”
He looked thoughtful and I was worried he would argue with me like the doctors but he shrugged and looked around the airport.
“I suppose you are right. I feel kind of guilty because I haven’t taken you shopping for a new phone. I guess it is because I wanted you all to myself.” He bent down and brushed his lips against mine and I felt my cheeks heat up.
“Shall we go shopping?” I nodded, a thrill running through my body. Something about shopping seemed to get my blood pumping. Maybe I really enjoyed the hunt for a great bargain. Then it hit me, I didn’t have my ATM card or any information.
Elijah saw my face drop and he ran a hand through his hair. “We are also going to have to get your credit cards canceled and get a new license for you. Don’t worry this is on me.”
“I feel odd though, I mean I am pretty much starting out with nothing again. What happened to my ID and everything?” That worried me, the hospital said they lost my bag that I came in with and they still haven’t found it.
“Don’t worry I love you and we will get through this. How about we stop by the hospital on the way to get your phone. Maybe they found your bag?” I lay my head on his shoulder and closed my eyes.
I still felt like a huge piece of me was missing. I hated this feeling and I wondered if I was like this before being dumped into that mine.
