“I’ve got to sort this out,” she said very loudly, to the whole world. “I’ve got to find out what my dreams do and I’ve got to find out how to tell what’s coincidence and what’s scary. And I’ve got to damn well deal with it.” What she didn’t say was that this meant she had to creep out of that corner and confront some of the world she’d lost. She tried to unlock the box with the key she was wearing. Three times. The lock was fine, she thought. The box was so small she twisted it and dropped it and nearly broke the thing trying to unlock it with the key still hanging from her neck.
