CHAPTER XVIII

The detectives and both Jonas and David followed the Officer to the crime scene. For all the others except Jonas, seeing a dead body was nothing new and reason for blood rush.

To Jonas though, seeing a body lying down lifeless was not something simple but he had no choice but to harden for the task ahead. He had to help solve the riddles with the hopes that it would help catch the executioner.

Without much ado, Detective Jean uncovered the body so that they could see the engravings on it. It was not a good sight. Just like the other victims, the body was blood-drained. As if that was not enough, the killer had also removed some of the internal organs and sewed close the body. Indeed, things were getting worse by the day and each body they found. The killer was becoming more creative. He needed stopped or things could get worse.

This time around the killer, so they thought, had two puzzles for them to solve. It was time for Jonas to have a look at the body and tell what the two codes meant. The writings were RVN.18.1.2.3 and 20.8.9.19:9.19:20.8.5:5.14.4.

The first code was not challenging. It was a Bible verse just like the very first they encountered. That was not arduous to tell. Even the detective had a clue that the first was a verse from the Bible. This time, she had to read the verse and relate. The second one was not a Bible verse though. It was nothing they could think of. Another strange thing was that, Jonas had not seen this code anywhere in his dreams as well.

They had a task ahead of them and it was not an easy one. They did not have a clue about this other code but, at least, they knew what the other two meant. All they had to do was to relate the two Bible verses and try to figure out the third code that was very strange.

“Jonas, any ideas of what this could be?” Detective Jean asked Jonas.

“The first code is from the Bible… about the second, we sail in the same boat am afraid. That was nowhere in my dreams.”

“Well, you have to figure it out. We brought you here for that reason.”

“I think we should read these verses and here what they are about,” said David.

“I already did. It’s all about the Armageddon,” said Detective John.

“Can you read them aloud please? Maybe the secret to this other code is to read and understand the others,” said Detective Jean.

“What would make a killer quote the Bible anyway? I thought murder is a sin?” asked David.

“I guess we shall soon find out,” said Detective Jean.

“This is what the quote says,

‘After this I saw another Angel coming down out of heaven. He had great authority, and his splendor brightened the whole earth. He cried out in a loud voice; “she has fallen! The great Babylon has fallen! She is now haunted by demons and unclean spirits; all kinds of filthy and hateful birds live in her. For all the nations have drunk her wine – the strongest wine of her immoral lust. The kings of the earth practiced s****l immorality with her, and the merchants of the world grew rich from her unrestrained lust.’”

“Who is it talking about and why would it be about Babylon?” asked Detective John.

“I think you are asking the wrong question detective. The question you should be asking is how it relates to what is happening,” said Jonas.

“What about the other one? What did it say?” Jean continued asking.

“You mean, even after I told you it was a Bible verse you never read it to know what it said?” asked Jonas looking upset.

“I did not think it was important at the time,” said Detective Jean.

“How often do you go to church detective, or, maybe, that’s the wrong question…” Jonas asked detective Jean.

Turning towards Jonas, “And the right question is…” pried Detective John.

Looking at both, “Do you for sure believe in God detectives?” continued Jonas.

“I think this is not the time to go out of what we came here to do; try to make sense of everything and possibly solve the case. Someone read the Bible please. John, please read the other one too. It’s a good thing you have the app in your phone,” said Detective Jean.

“You should try it sometime Jean. It never hurts. Remind me to send you the app once we are done here,” John replied.

Mockingly, “Oh yeah, of course… St. John, would you mind reading the verse please? We do not have the whole day. Every second we waste, the killer gets further away and more creative.”

“Okay ma’am. The other verse reads,

‘Then one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls came to me and said, “Come, and I will show you how the famous prostitute is to be punished, that great city that is built near many rivers. The kings of the earth practiced s****l immorality with her, and the people of the world became drunk from drinking the wine of her immorality.” The Spirit took control of me, and the angel carried me to a desert. There I saw a woman sitting on a red beast that had names insulting to God written all over it; the beast had seven heads and ten horns,’”
