THE ARMAGGEDON: MAN EAT MAN

CHAPTER XXX

The two agents that gave her the Minister’s case were present. They were not happy to see Jean and her team though. The look on their faces said it all. They came towards them at once and this time, they were not interested in sharing with Jean but David.

The news were that David was in trouble and arrested for the murder of the victim found at the scene. They were all staggered and tried to defend David saying there was nothing linking him to the crime. They all alibied to be with him the entire time.

What Jean and the rest did not know was that the two agents had enough evidence against David that he could not get off the hook. First, they found his Beretta M9 pistol at the scene as the murder weapon. Second, he was caught on camera doing the killing. Funny enough, someone came along and tried to confront him and that is when he dropped the weapon and fled.

Jean could not comprehend what had just happened. In all her entire career as a detective, she had never seen such handy work. Everything was beyond doubt that David had killed the man. The agents cuffed and took him away. Everything came to a standstill and the only thing that mattered was trying to prove that David was innocent.

Whatever the Mystery man was willing to do to keep Jean off his back alarmed even John. He had to make a call and ask about it. He also did not think it had come to the point of framing David just to get Jean off their backs. To him, it was not a smart move and it could expose them. He had to show his concern to the Mystery man. He moved a distance and took out the phone to make the call.

“Yes John, to what do I owe the honors of this call? How many times do I say that you should refrain from calling me?”

“I am sorry sir but I had to call. Tell me that, this was not you. You said we needed a diversion but this is too much. How could you even think of framing David?”

“John, John, John, do not tell me that you have developed feelings for your colleagues! David is just a soldier who has served his country well and I assure you he will be honored for that.”

“It’s not a matter of feelings but our mission and the course. Doing this puts everything at risk. Sir… I mean no disrespect but… it seems you do not understand to what length Jean can go when you mess around with people close to her. And what do you mean by he served his country well?”

“Relax John. All you have to do is your job. Be a detective and Jean’s partner. Be by her side and help her find evidence to clear her friend. This will keep you busy for a while. And John… I do not have to remind you that we are accountable for our actions as well as your mission and what will happen should it fail. Did you think David just quit from the forces? He was just being reassigned.”

“It’s just that I…” The Mystery man cut him short.

“Just what John… Ah… Just what? Just that you are getting over your head and thinking that you can give me orders and opinions. I wish to remind you that you are just a pawn in this game and your role is to be moved and move in accord. And John, let us not have this discussion again. It is better for the both of us. You are hurting my feelings and I do not like to hurt my feelings. Do you understand?”

“Crystal clear sir. I got it sir.”

“Good. Now get back to work and keep at your task. And John, Refrain from calling me unless it’s urgent. We don’t want to give more clues to the Detective.”

The Mystery man hang up the phone. John had no other choice but to do as told. This time, he was to do the job he was paid for, being a good detective and Jean’s partner. With proving David’s innocence as their agenda and mission, the first place they had to go was his home to check for his weapons.
