CHAPTER XV

725 Words
After they had left, Kate felt the need to lengthen her stay in the absence of her boyfriend. She hoped to learn more about what was happening as she helped Jessica with what she had in mind to keep them occupied for the rest of the day. “What now? What do we do next?” asked Kate. “My daughter, all we have to do now is wait, pray and try to assist them as much as we can. In addition, as much as you may want to stay, I suggest you head back home. Your parents might be worried with a killer on the loose. We shall just catch up later,” said Jessica. “Okay, mom… I wouldn’t agree with you less. Just in case anything happens between today and tomorrow, be sure to let me know. They took Jonas; I happen to have fallen in love with him so bad. At least, let me help where I can.” “Of course dear, I will surely let you know. One more thing though, let us keep this between us. Tell what you have heard to no one, not even to your parents. You know what such knowledge and information can do to people. It’s better and safer for you and them that way.” Jessica beseeched. “I absolutely understand what you say mom. My lips are sealed. If you will excuse me, I will be on my way now. See you when I see you.” Kate approved. She hugged Jessica and left the house for her home. It was time for Jessica to go back to the stowage and dig out more that she could from her grandmother Rebecca’s handy work. She may have tried to cut ties from her grandmother’s visions or that part of her past but it was catching up faster than the whirlwind. She needed an explanation for the Bible verses on dead bodies and their relations to her son’s visions and gift. It had come time for her to take everything seriously. She had to learn more about her grandmother’s journals. In the desperation of the detectives in search of someone to shoulder the blame, her son was not in the clear. Lucky for him, his father was by his side. His innocence depended on how resourceful he could be and only the journals could guarantee that, so she thought. Time was a necessity she had enough not of from the moment of their departure in the company of the detectives. Jonas and his father had still so much to decipher as well. The detectives had come to their home a little too early. They had just began the mission of having Jonas get to understand and harness his gift adequately when they showed up. There was nothing yet to show for it. The fact bothered both to their discomfort in fear and panic of what awaited them ahead. Interpreting visions about the end of days and the super-human gift were not something they would have prepared for in advance. Though they had just learned of the apocalypse and the possibility of it happening, they never thought of it that soon. Nevertheless, a bigger problem was at their doorstep and had to deal with it. On the bright side, helping in solving the case could be how the Chosen would learn more about his gift and understand the visions. On arrival at the precinct, it was time to source the root of the problem and deal with it. They had to go through all the available evidence, anything and everything that could be of help in solving the homicides. For a start, they had a clue about the engravings on the body from the earlier incident. Detective Jean started by searching for any case-files related to the case so that they could follow. Unfortunate for her, fate had something else in store for them. It was not yet time for the follow-ups. She got a call from the captain’s office. He sought her immediate presence at his office. Something else or someone needed their attention more. She immediately stopped the search and headed for the office. Detective John was with Jonas and his father in the interrogation room trying to catch up on the engravings and why they were on a dead body.
