CHAPTER XXII

Finally, the day was done and it was time for the team to break for the night. Jean requested the Captain to let David and Jonas go home for they had helped them much in the cases. She also pleaded with him to let her work with them to solve the cases until the end. The Captain was not to object this because; even he had seen how they had helped in the case.
“Captain, I wish to have a word with you a moment please... in private,” said Detective Jean.
“Of course detective. What favor do you want me to do for you this time?”
“Well, I am just asking you to let David and Jonas go home for the night. They have surely helped us.”
“That will not be a problem. You also knew that we could not have them spend the night here in the precinct, right?”
“Yeah, of course I knew about that. Sorry, maybe I played the role of detaining them a little too much and was carried away.”
“I understand but if it makes you feel any better, David knows very well that you cannot arrest them. If there is someone you had fooled was the son of whom, I too doubt he was with his high IQ.”
“So you want to connote that they came willingly and not because I said I had to bring them here?”
“It’s just a thought. Again, I have not yet met a soldier half David is…and I agree. You can let them go home.”
After this talk, they all said the last briefings and they all went their way. As they were walking out of the precinct, David had a chat with Jean. They stayed behind a while for a succinct talk.
“Detective, I want to appreciate you for your good work. You are good at this job. You were built and wired for this.”
“Cut to the chase David. I know you did not have me stay behind so that you can appreciate me. Is there anything you have to tell me soldier?”
“You never thought I came with you because you threatened to arrest my son, did you?”
“Why else would you come with us to the precinct then?”
“My son has some extraordinary gift that I do not know not a thing about… His great grandmother happened to have one too and saw this day…. When we go out with my son to train him on how to use these powers, it never works... When we come home, we meet you at our doorstep… Again, my son says he saw you in his dream. I think you can join the dots detective. Remember, Jonas is my son and I have done a couple of tours as well.”
“I must say, that is very impressive soldier. Actually, that is not bad. I chose the right team for this after all. You are all I thought you would be. Everything I heard is absolutely true.”
“What exactly did you hear about me detective?”
“Well, tell you what though, if I tell you that, you might not come tomorrow. I will tell you then. So you know… if I were arresting your son, I would never have brought you with me. I knew it was the only way to pull you and your son into this without your wife and his girlfriend knowing or complaining about it.”
“You are exactly what I thought you are too. I was not wrong after all.”
“Tell me soldier, what did you think I was and what have you heard about me that makes you interested?”
“I have heard stories but I am afraid, if I tell you this, you might not come for work tomorrow detective. Save it for then. I would hate to not see you tomorrow.”
“Okay…well played. Have a good night soldier and take care of Jonas for me please.”
“You don’t have to ask of it detective, he is my son… remember? Goodnight. And detective… I thought you might need to know that Rebecca Maya was not my great grandmother but my wife’s.”
“Never did I miss that part soldier. I am the lead detective in this case… not by chance. Take care of my asset please.”
The detective laughed and walked off to her car. David and his father took a cab home since they had come in the detective’s car. At home, Jessica had her own research to do. She did go back to the storage to get anything she could find. Anything that could help the case as well as her husband and son to save the world.
