They went into the captain’s office to let him know of this new development. John narrated his dream to the captain and handed him the newspaper article. Captain Meake was not the type of people that believed in ghost or demon stories. He was the type that believed not the existence of such creatures as the demons and beasts. He could not buy any of the stories they told him. He did give permission to proceed though.
Meake stood from his chair and walked round his desk to where they stood, “So John, what you are trying to say is that people are being killed by a beast that was written in the Revelation?”
“Yes sir, I am afraid that’s the truth… sir. I wish it wasn’t.”
“No John, tell me something better than this. How do you expect me to tell this to the director when he calls me? That the demon in the book of Revelation came to life and is killing people in Kibich City, or, that the world is about to end? It takes a leap of faith for a Christian to believe this is happening let alone the director.”
“Sir I seriously wish there was something else I could tell you in place of this but there is not. I even wish I did not dream but unfortunately, I did dream and it’s happening,” imparted John.
Meake turned towards Jean, “What do you say about this Jean? You too believe in the demon roaming the earth killing people?”
“I am afraid I do sir. Right now people are dying in the city and I absolutely have no other suspects. Someone has to take the fall and pay for that sir. This demon fits the perfect description even from the way we find the bodies, without a single drop of blood in them and with serious carvings. That is the work of Satan sir… and he has to pay.”
Meake moved back to his seat, “I like your enthusiasm but I thought you are talking about a demon here; seven heads for God’s sake. How do you plan on finding it and where, let alone killing it?”
“We have a plan sir. But first, we need to pay Jessica Smith a visit at her home.”
“Who is this Jessica Smith? Is she related to the demon or why her? Don’t tell me this demon is a woman and has a name.”
“No sir, she is not related to the demon but she happens to have bought the house the woman in the article used to live in.”
“What Article?” Meake asked.
“That one there in your hand, sir,” informed Jean.
“Oh, okay Jean, how is it going to help?” Meake enquired looking at the article.
“We think that if the woman had the ability to see this all those years ago, she must have said or written something that can help us kill this demon. Even better, we hope that someone from that family might be as gifted as she was,” Jean answered.
“Well, what choice do I have? I have to believe this theory of yours but… please make sure you find this demon before things get worse. I need to have proof of this when the director calls which will be very soon.”
“Very well sir, we shall be leaving now,” stated Jean as they left his office.
“Take a few officers to help you as you go looking for this demon. You might need back up,” the Captain spoke to them as they left.
Everything the Captain cared about was, to find and bring the demon in question to justice. If they had a way to do that, he was okay with it. What he was not okay about was the world-ending story. That did not make any sense to him at all. At least, he did the honorable thing and gave Jean and John support although; he did not share their belief.
Therefore, Jean and John went forth to look for Jessica, Jonas’ mother, who was the only one in their family living in the city at the time. The detectives knew her as just the woman who bought the house.
The reason for this was, having known about the journals for almost her lifetime, she knew her family could be in danger. Instead of giving away her only son for adoption, she decided to leave the city for another. She also changed her name completely to protect her son. Her husband was in the army but, as usual, he was hardly at home. She only had her son to keep her company.
Despite the fact, she always knew that, her son might be the chosen one. She could not risk anyone else finding her grandmother’s handy work about the end of days. She had to buy back her house after being away long enough. This was to clear the thought of her relation to Rebecca. It was then that she bought the house and came back to her hometown.
Panic levels in the city went high with every second. That which people only knew as rumors became a reality slowly by each day. As much as people talked about the Armageddon, it was just a non-credible rumor but with the happenings, people had started to believe the rumors. No one had seen this beast yet though. Everything they found each time were dead bodies.
Jean and John had to look for Jessica as soon as possible before people saw the beast. As the dream said, it would come time and the people would worship the demon. At that stage, the demon would be so powerful to kill or at least to try to kill. They were running out of time. The world was running out of time. The end was approaching and fast.
They picked a few officers and went with them to Jessica’s home. They really needed to get the answers to all the questions they had and more so, the devil had to die or return back to hell leaving the people and the earth alone and in one peace.
