CHAPTER XI

Jonas and his father David had left the house. They were busy trying to find a way to make Jonas’ newly discovered powers take effect. Jessica on the other hand had nothing else to do apart from being a mother and a wife. She was doing her normal chores in the house when she heard a knock at the door. She was not sure whom that could have been but went forward to check. Before opening, she had to make sure it was not the demon killing people hunting the chosen.
With her son having the gift, she knew that, in one way or the other, the demon would know about it. Although she made sure people had no clue about Jonas’ potencies, she knew a day would come for them to know. After this, the so-called demon could try to get rid of the one thing that could stop it from accomplishing its mission.
Upon looking outside, she was relieved to find out that, it was not the demon but Kate. Jonas’ girlfriend decided to pay a visit. Apparently, she could not live longer without seeing Jonas. It seemed his mother was right after all. She did come back looking for him. Jessica opened the door for her and let her inside. Jessica knew she could come back looking for Jonas but she did not think it would be that soon.
“Come in. What brings you here? Jonas told me that you got mad at him and left. I never thought you could come looking for him this soon.”
“Well, I was surprised by the news he told me about him having powers and could not comprehend. I thought he was just going nuts. I just figured I should at least give him time to explain more and maybe, get to hear your side of the story as well.”
“I am glad you came. He will be happy to see you here. He said you loved him and I do believe it now but I am afraid all he told you is the truth. Jonas is not the normal boy you thought he would be. He is gifted.”
“I never saw Jonas as a normal boy. I always saw something special in him. That is why I fell in love with him in the first place. I just did not think of it to be having powers.”
“I am afraid it goes beyond having the powers. Those powers also have a price to pay.”
“By the way, where is he? Did he even come home after I got mad and left him alone?”
“Yes… he came home my dear. He is with his father right now trying to figure out how to make those potencies he talked about work.”
“So he was telling the truth. He could not control the powers.”
“Yes, that’s it. His father is helping him make the powers work again.”
“Why does he need these powers to work so badly? If he cannot control them… I think he should let them be.”
“My dear, I wish it was that simple. The powers that Jonas has are not just any powers. By now… you must have heard people talk about the world might end.”
“Yes I do hear people talk about it but that’s just a rumor, or, is it not so?”
“I am afraid not my dear. It is not a rumor any more. It is very true. The world is in grave danger and only Jonas can help save it with his powers.”
“What are you talking about? What kind of danger are we talking about?”
“…The kind of danger that a normal human like us can do nothing about.”
“I hope he succeeds soon. I am certain with his father by his side; he will learn to control the powers, that’s if he finds a way to bring them back.”
As Kate and Jessica were busy talking, the detectives finally arrived at her home. When Jessica saw the police vehicles outside her house, she knew things were about to get ugly with the police paying them a visit.
