CHAPTER XXIV

1522 Words
The following day early in the morning, as usual, it was time for all to prepare and head back to solving the murders. As David was preparing himself to head out to the precinct, what he saw on the television was no good news. Their day had started on a very low pitch. Immediately his phone rang. It was Detective Jean calling. She had also seen the news and was calling David to confirm whether he had seen the same. All the channels were reporting breaking news that morning. The Minister of internal security was reported dead after being involved in an accident while driving home from his office the previous night. These were no good news. Such a high-ranking officer in the government dying was a big blow to the Nation and very suspicious given the circumstances. The government could not sit this one out. He had to be replaced immediately or the country was about to break into chaos. A Nation without the Minister of internal security even for the shortest time was like a pressure cooker waiting to explode anytime. More so, with the thought of people’s panic with the Armageddon rumor and the people that were bafflingly dying on the streets, something had to be done and very quickly. This accelerated their plans and changed everything for the day. First, they were to reach to the scene and find out what really had happened. They could not go to the precinct first but had to meet at the crime scene. Desperate times called and calls for desperate measures. The timing of the minister’s death was a very weird coincidence or it had something to do with the failsafe but this, only you and I know about. The big question was how would the death of a senior government officer like that be a failsafe and for who could it have been? In a few minutes, the detectives, David and Jonas were already at the scene. On arrival, they discovered to have company. They were not the only branch (KCPD) on the scene. Another weird thing was that, our two friends in monkey suits from the other day represented the other branch on the scene (CPSD); the agents that got orders the previous night to execute the failsafe. They were the very same that seated across the previous crime scene. The two Agents had surely developed a thing for dead bodies. These were the people that had arrived at the scene first and the very that filled-in the detective and her crew. The funny thing was that, on such circumstances, the regular police force would not be allowed anywhere near the scene. That day, they were generous enough to hand the case over to detective Jean and her crew. That was very weird and awkward, so to speak. They also gave the detective a dossier they claimed to have found in the Minister’s vehicle. That made Jean grow even more suspicious of whatever that was happening. After she studied the documents, she found out; the documents were linking the Minister to a number of illegal deals with a well-known gang to the law enforcement agencies. Things were not getting any better. Detective Jean could not understand why the agents had to give her the documents and hand the case over to the regular police to solve, yet, it was way above their jurisdiction. With all that in mind and all the other killings that were happening, she could not just let them go without asking some questions. She had too much riddles to crack. It was time someone helped her solve some of them. Time for someone other than her and her team to share the cake. Funny enough, David did not arrive to the same conclusion. At that point, he had smelled a rat a mile away. Once bitten twice shy, they say. He reached out to Jean and convinced her to do away with questioning the agents and just let them be. It was hard for her to let them be but since she had brought David and Jonas to help her in every way possible, she decided to trust his judgment and to let it go. That was a clear expression that their helping part was not just for solving the riddles but also defrag or reboot her memory and thoughts when faced with such situations. He pointed out to her to use any other information she had to do her own findings; in addition, they would do everything within their power to help her. The two agents left the scene. Jean and her people were left on the scene to wrap it up and head back to the precinct. As usual, even the body of a Minister could not miss one of the very common signatures that came with each body they had found on the streets so far. The Minister got himself a tattoo after death with a message to the world. Another code was engraved on the body. RVN:18.4.5.6.7.8.9.10. This time, the code was very long. It was about time the detective did her best to get the message sent to them. It was either God was very angry with people or He was just trying to save people from their kind but no one seemed to take enough interest in it. The verse read as follows, ‘Then I heard another voice from heaven saying, come out my people. Come out from her. You must not take part in her sins. You must not share in her punishment! For her sins are piled up as high as heaven and God remembers her wicked ways. Treat her exactly as she has treated you. Pay her back double for all she has done. Fill her cup with a drink twice as strong as the drink she prepared for you. Give her as much suffering and grief as the glory and luxury she gave herself. For she keeps telling herself: here I sit, a queen. I am no widow. I will never know no grief. Because of this, in one day she will be struck with plagues, disease, grief and famine and she will be burnt with fire because the Lord God who judges her is mighty. The Kings of the earth who took part in her immorality and lust will cry and weep over the city when they see the smoke from the frames that consume her. They stand a long way off because they are afraid of sharing in her suffering. They say, how terrible, how awful this great and mighty city Babylon in just one hour, you have been punished.’ At that point, the detective knew whatever was going on had to do with the government somehow, or, peoples’ acquired immoral ways and was not pleasing to God. The death of a Minister by accident was no coincidence. Another strange happening was that, the claims about the Minister’s involvement with a gang were a little off. During his lifetime and leadership, people considered him as one of the best choice of leaders. He was among the few that had people’s interest come before his own. The country was cut deeply and no stitches would heal the wound fast enough. No amount of towels would contain the bleeding. Why then would it be that he was involved with a gang? That was something the detective had to find out as soon as possible. She went from looking into the other murders and was more into the death of this Minister and why. Had it been the failsafe Clairvoyant talked about, it was surely working. Jean’s focus was now more into the death of the Minister. With all the help she had from David, Jonas and John, they finally came up with a theory. First, it was about the tattoos. Since they had signatures never seen before, it was clear that they had a guardian angel sending messages to them and they needed to decipher them as fast as possible. After a while of consultation, they finally had a verdict. The verses from the Bible and the death of people finally came to the relation that the world was about to end and, it was by the hand of man. The Armageddon had come. From the verses written all over the bodies, it was clear that whoever was writing them had them a message that the apocalypse was knocking at their door and fast. This also meant that the day of reckoning was not just any destruction but the one engineered by men, much greedy men. How else would one explain the death of a Minister and then a criminal record on top of his death? It was either the Minister had pissed off some very bad people or someone had a vision and the Minister was an impede that needed to be done away with. The most reasonable at that juncture was just think the Minister had pissed off some very bad people. How then could that relate to the killings before the Minister’s death? She could not yet solve the one puzzle.
