Before she could embark on the search for the burning garment under her skin, she had to do something for David first. She might have called off every effort to get David off the hook but she still had to do something about it. There are very many ways of killing rats. This includes burning the house at times. It was time for her to burn the house. The rats were proving so lethal for any other way.
She went for the only other option there was to help David. She had to break the law and break him out. She also knew that breaking into a prison was not an easy task. Prisons were and are designed to keep those inside in and those outside out. Breaking him out of a prison was impossible with her working alone.
There was only one other way she would help David. For David to be imprisoned, he had to be moved to the facility. During transportation, there was security but nothing compared to what could be found inside a prison. She stood a better chance breaking him out en route. She first had to know when he was to be transported and the vehicle he was to be in.
She knew that, with her history with David, her department was not to be given the information about the transportation. She had to source it from other sources. She was also aware that, David had been ranked as a high-risk fugitive and his convoy had to have at least three vehicles.
To avoid attention and suspicion, it had to be three and no more. She pulled her own strings and got the information about the transportation. From that moment, all she had to do was to make a plan and ensure that it was flawless or they could both die.
It came time for David to be transported to Kibich Maximum prison. She waited until the convoy was far enough from back-ups and somewhere she could strike without disturbances away from the city. She ambushed the convoy and took David away. From that time on, David could only work under the radar and stay away from his family.
It was reported that he had escaped and was tagged as extremely dangerous. The police issued an APB for his arrest and a bounty for his capture. Life was not going to be easy for them. Lucky for them, he was a soldier and once a soldier always a soldier. He was used to living under the radar behind enemy lines in worse conditions and risk of imminent death upon capture.
Their work relationship with Jean also had to be very secret. In fact, they kept it so secret that even his son Jonas was not aware of what had happened to the convoy or the fact that they were in contact with Jean. Before they could part ways, David had some information for her. During his capture, he overheard people speak and from the nature of the dialogue, he warned her of a mole in the precinct constantly watching their every move.
“Thank you for breaking me out but, you must believe that I did not kill that man as they said I did. They framed me to get me out of the way.”
“Do you think I would have come for you if I thought you killed the man? I know something is wrong and I was hoping by getting you out, you could maybe have something for me or might have heard something.”
“Well, you are right about things being not right. Whoever framed me has very powerful people pulling strings or a very powerful man in the government. Apparently, they are not happy about the way we have been going about the cases. They also think my son and I had something to do with the tattoos on the dead bodies. Something about his powers; they know so much about us and these cases.”
“I suspected this but was not sure until you were framed. I knew framing you could only mean that we are about to find out what they want and so… they got rid of you to slow down my investigation.”
“Yes, that’s what I heard some people outside the cell they were holding me talk about. That is not all; something else you should know as well. I heard them talk about an informant in your precinct. The Kibich Central Police precinct was the subject of their discussion. You have their full attention and they are watching.”
“What are you saying David? You mean there is a traitor in the precinct?”
“Pretty much yes, someone in the precinct is watching your every move and reporting back. You have to be very careful. These people have no compromise. They will go to any length to see their mission pull through. My incident was just the beginning. You have to lie low for a while.”
“I suspected a mole but I never thought they could be that close. Who is this mole? Did you hear anything that could help us identify him or her?”
“No, they were just using aliases and some sort of codes. These people are smart and they know what they are doing. You should also know that they may be in the government but I think they are working against the leadership or something close to that. It might be some sort of coupe de tat but I am not sure.”
“What makes you say this David? Could it have to do with the Minister’s death and him being framed of involving with criminals in his death?”
“It has everything to do with the Minister’s death. Still, I heard them talk about someone they called the Clairvoyant and it is as if he is calling the shots. If we find this Clairvoyant, we might find out what this is all about and stop it but you have to be very careful. Whatever this is… it is f*****g big and they don’t care how many bodies they have to drop along the way.”
“What do you think we should do then? How do we go about this? It seems with a traitor in the precinct, I cannot trust anyone. How do I go about this?”
“First, I need you to go home and get every journal that Jessica has and anything that has to do with all this. Keep them safe for me and tell her to stop looking into all this. Jonas too, please tell him to lie low and tell anything he sees to you and only you; nobody else.”
“What’s the plan from there?”
“Well, you need to find the mole and as for me, I need to know how the hell they got to my storage and exchanged my weapons with fakes without me knowing about it. It’s time we removed this framing garment that is making us burn.”
“Okay David, how do you suggest I go about identifying this mole?”
“You are the best detective I have ever known, I think you will figure that out. I think it’s time for you to go before they start asking questions. They are already searching every corner of this city for me and all the roads in and out of the city should be barricaded by now. Go before they get suspicious.”
“I know I should get going. I will do my best to give you heads up and to lead them away. Promise me to stay safe. I really need you on this one. I cannot solve it alone. With your escape, they are much tensed by now and might get sloppy. I will see what I can find.”
“Thank you very much once again detective. And remember, this garment has to be in contact with your body for you to burn. Think about that as you search for your mole. He or she might be closer than you think.”
“I know that David. I am very much aware of the garment analogy and I will be careful. I will also keep Jonas safe. You do not have to worry about your wife and the girl, by now they have police all over your home from the minute you were reported missing.”
“I know about that and that’s why I was reminding you not to trust anybody. Keep a close watch on those cops. Some might be more than just cops.”
“I will… soldier. Be safe.”
“You too detective, see you soon.”
Detective Jean left David and went back to the precinct.
