CHAPTER XIII

Before they could go far, Jean’s phone rang. She took it out of the pocket to see who it was. It was Ruddick the forensic analyst at Kibich Central Teaching and Referral Hospital. Besides working at the hospital, he was the consulting forensic analyst for the Kibich Central Police precinct. He was calling to let the Detective in on the findings on the last murder victim they had discovered. From the look on the Detective’s face, she did not get what she was hoping for from the analyst. Unfortunately, Jonas’ mother was right after all. Ruddick had just found some shreds of evidence supporting that, not a beast but another human being in need of blood and a lot of it was killing people. She could not believe her ears but there it was. Someone was determined to kill people for whatever course it was that they believed in. Immediately after ending the call, she turned to Mrs. David and told her of the news. Funny thing though was that, although Mrs. David was suggesting someone might be killing the people, she did not think it would be true. She was just saying anything to get the detectives off Jonas’ back so that he could work on saving the world. That became even stranger to her. She could not show her appall to the detectives though. She had to pretend really knowing it was coming. Having nothing else to discuss, the Detectives proceeded out. Before they could leave, something more happened yet again. Jonas and his father arrived home from their little trip. Upon arriving home, the welcome was the most disturbing sight anybody could ever lay his or her eyes on. There were two Toyota Axio cop cars and several officers flooding their driveway. That could mean one of two things. His mother either was in trouble, or, was the trouble. Having no criminal history or any record whatsoever, it had to be that she was in trouble. That was what Jonas and his father thought, as they got out of their Toyota Hilux double cabin truck quickly and headed to the house. As they ran for the front door, all they could think of was the worst; that their beloved had been attacked or worse. Upon getting inside the house, they were finally relieved to find Jessica at her best and without a mark. To add to the good news, Jonas found his girlfriend at their house with his mother. When Jonas saw the two detectives, he reacted in a manner suggesting he knew them, or, at least one of them. He looked at Jean curiously and started asking her strange questions that left every other person in the room confused. In that case, even the detective herself was confused because, she did not seem to understand what Jonas was saying. Jonas was very sure of what he was saying. He had seen detective Jean just not where you would expect it. Jonas seemed to recognize detective Jean because, he happened to have seen her in one of his visions within the past couple of days. At that point, it was clear that the discussion between them was nowhere near being over. In fact, it was just taking the best turn. Jessica was no longer the buyer of the house but Rebecca’s granddaughter. They were all curious to find out more about those visions and that included Jonas as well. Dreaming is a normal human thing and more so, having dreams about people or, with people. For Jonas’ case, the person in the dream was one very beautiful detective. What was not normal about that particular one was, he had never met Jean before. This got everyone curious and eager to find out more about what was going on. The fact that Jean visited their home after the fact was even stranger to them. “You… what are you doing here? Is my mother in any kind of trouble?” Jonas asked bitterly. “Forgive my son detective; sometimes he can be overprotective… especially with his mother. I am David… Jessica’s husband and Jonas’ father. What brings you here?” “…I am detective Jean and this is my partner detective John. We just came here because we thought you people could help us?” “What type of help could we have that the detectives could be so much in need of and that you cannot access from the government?” “They tend to think someone in the family is gifted and can help them solve strange homicide cases in the city,” alleged Jessica. “Have you been in the military David? Have you served?” asked detective Jean. “Sure… I have done a few tours in the years past but, that’s not important. What is important though is how did my son know you if you have never met before?” “Well, since he is the one who identified me, I wouldn’t mind if he told us how he knew me and from where.” “Well son… you heard her. Tell us, how do you know this detective?” Jonas reached for his backpack, took out a small notebook the size of a novel, and handed it over to his father. In this book were all of his dreams in the past couple of years ever since he could draw. Among the last pictures he drew from his dreams, there, was the picture of detective Jean. “How will this help us know how you know detective Jean?” “Just open the book dad. Check out the last pages I have drawn.” His father perused the book and reached to the page with her portrait. Indeed, Jonas had drawn the detective’s portrait. The detective took the book to have a look at it. After seeing her portrait among other strange drawings and descriptions, she knew Jonas had much more up his sleeve. “If I were to ask you Jonas, how did you get my portrait in this weird looking book? Have you seen me before?” “As I have said, it was just a vision that I saw. All those pictures in there are just images I get from my visions. This is how I keep track of them.” “Son, why did you not tell us that you saw detective Jean in your dream?” David asked Jonas curiously. “I just thought it was not important. After all, how could I know she was a detective? I thought she is a woman I had met before. I just could not get around the whole thing myself as well.” Okay Jonas, that is fine. I believe what you say about me but I am sorry to say I will need a little more than that. You see…if only you had drawn my portrait; that would have been okay, but, these others are not just random pictures.” “What do you mean detective? What did you find in those pictures?” asked Jessica curiously. “Take; just have a look at this drawing. Where did you get this from, Jonas?” Jean asked. “As I said, I get them from my dreams. Where else could I be getting them?” “Maybe from the bodies we find lying around the city murdered,” John suggested. “Hey, hey, slow down detective! You seriously cannot be accusing my son of human hematophagy! You mean to christen him as your sprite; the killer that is using bodies for canvas after slurping blood off them? He might be gifted but, I bet it’s not that kind of gift,” asked Jessica bitterly. “Just take it easy honey. The detectives are just doing their job. I am sure Jonas has a good explanation for it. I would suggest we hear what he has to say first.”
