CHAPTER VIII

Finally, Jonas got home. He parked his bike at the garage and went into the house. He sneaked because he did not want his parents to hear him. He saw their vehicles in the garage hence, knew that they were still at home. Too bad, he thought he would sneak. They were waiting for him so eagerly. He bumped into them in the living room just seated waiting for him to arrive. He could not understand why they were waiting for him in that manner.
They were finally relieved when they saw him enter the house. From the look on their faces, Jonas knew that whatever they had for him was definitely new to him. He just wished it were not a continuation of his father’s lectures about seeing the doctor. His father was the first to talk to him.
“Son, it’s good to see you back. I am sorry about earlier. I was wrong to talk to you the way I did. I should have listened to you.”
“I do not understand dad. What is this all about? I thought you said I needed to see a doctor.”
“Jonas, what your father is trying to tell you is that… he was wrong about doubting you before.”
“You mean about my gift and the visions? What has changed so fast? Did you people see God himself… or… who else visited? Did you have visions too?”
“Jonas, your father came to me when you left and told me the story. I could not believe it was happening.”
“What are you talking about mom? You talk like you knew this was to happen to me.”
“Well son, I did not know it would happen to you but, I think you should know that your great grandmother had such abilities.”
“You knew this the whole time and waited for me to suffer alone thinking I was going crazy? Did you not think I needed to know sooner mom? I could not concentrate in class thinking about how people would react if they knew about it.”
“Son, just take it easy. Your mother never thought this would be happening to you.”
“No, that is a lie. You all knew because these dreams started long when I was a kid. She used to get me to sleep after the nightmares. How could you not know? You could let me know they were to be visions.”
“Jonas, sorry I kept this from you but, you have to know… I did so because I did not want it to be you son. I did not want you to go through what your great grandmother was going through.”
“Well mom, sorry to disappoint you but I have this gift now and I don’t even know how or where to use it.”
”Well son, that is why your mother and I had to wait for you. I think we have something that can help you with that.”
“And what would that be? Where could you even have gotten this information you talk about?”
“Here… (Jessica said handing him one of her grandmother’s journal that they had found in the storage room) we found this journal among others in our store. It belonged to your great grandmother. Everything you need to know about your gift is in there. We also need to show you some more in the storage.”
“This picture looks just like the one I drew from my dreams. Did she dream about it too?”
“Yes Jonas, your great grandmother had the same gift you have but… not as strong as yours.”
“You mean she was also meant to stop the Armageddon?”
“No son, you are meant to help do that. Hers was to teach you about how to see your gift and how you will help to stop the Armageddon.”
“I am sorry dad. Dead people don’t teach stuff. How is she supposed to teach me if she is dead? Unless you tell me that she is also some kind of immortal.”
“She was not an immortal son. I think that is why you have that book. She knew that she would not live to teach it to you herself and therefore, she wrote everything down for you. All you have to do is read.”
“Thank you for believing in me and the book but, I am sorry, the powers are gone.”
“What do you mean the powers are gone?”
“I told Kate about it…”
They both cut him short in surprise
“You told Kate about this? Why would you tell her about this? You put her in danger by sharing this with her.”
“Well mom, she is my girlfriend and she deserves to know.”
Jessica and David responded simultaneously, with a surprised tone, “Kate is your what now…?”
Then his mother continued, “I thought she was just your best friend.”
“Not anymore mom, she is more than that now. Kate is my girlfriend as of today.”
His mother was astounded by the fact, “When did this happen? Have you…?” she asked.
Jonas interrupted, “Of course not mom, but, we did share a kiss. She kissed me today to prove that she loves me just as I love her, which is why I had to tell her. I did not want her to find out later and be mad at me.”
His father too could not keep from asking, “So how did it go when you told her about it?”
“Well, she wanted to see me use my gift so that she could believe me. I tried and wished to show her but; I am the only one who can see the visions and the strength is no more. She got angry and left. She thought I was crazy and said I should see a doctor.”
His father continued, “No son, your gift is not gone. It is only that you were nervous and did not know how to use it. I think by reading the journal you will do it. After all, I am here. I will help you get it to work and help you learn. Did you not say I have a gift of my own as well? I think it’s time we work together and get our gifts to work as father and son.”
“Okay dad. Thank you but what good will they do me and Kate is gone. I don’t think she will be coming back again.”
His mother walked up to him and held him by the shoulder, “No Jonas. Kate is not gone. Believe me when I tell you she will be back. If she loves you, she will come. I may be your mother but I am a woman and was also a girl once. From the look of things, you will be seeing her soon. Just keep learning about those powers. Your love for her will have no meaning if the Armageddon kills us all.”
“Thank you mom, I think it’s time I started learning how to understand my powers. Shall we go, dad?”
“Oh yes, sure son. Let us get to it. Just so you know, I always saw something great in you, son. I always knew you would do great things in your life. I am proud you are my son.”
“I am glad I have you too dad. I love you too.”
Jonas and his father had one thing in mind. They had to understand those gifts. Before they could get on with it, he decided to show Jonas the secret storage and the other materials kept by his great grandmother about the Armageddon. After Jonas saw it all, it was time to get down to work. The end of the days was coming very fast and they had to make sure that when it came time, the world stood a chance to survive.
