Jean and David were not convinced by the news but it was still a win for them. If the death of the Mystery man meant no more deaths and conspiracies, it was a win for them. The wise men said; when the deal is too good, think twice. I guess Jean and David were so happy in capturing John and the agents as well as the death of the Mystery man that they forgot about the saying.
Things were about to get messy than they thought. Hell was about to break completely loose. A call came in at the precinct that there was another homicide at the Northern side of the city. Jean’s team had gathered quite a reputation at solving cases and they were thrown to the case. They may have not caught the killer but it was about time they did. They seemed close enough. They drove off to the scene.
On arrival at the scene, there were no signs of any officers on sight. The street was one of the few abandoned thoroughfares in Kibich City. It was a street where someone could be killed and the body left to decay before being noticed and called in. They were all instantaneously alarmed. It was at that moment that they knew to have fallen into a trap and their lives were in grave danger.
Before they could take any precautions, Jean took one straight to the chest. As they struggled to get to safety and get Jean an ambulance, they saw a phantasm. Someone they never thought was dirty or in the scheme they thought to have stopped. It was none other but, their Captain Meake approaching. He had shot Jean himself. He reached them and warned saying they had begotten everything that happened to them.
Have you ever had a bad dream and saw a very dark huge ugly demon approach you trying to talk you into being a friend? Well… I once did, and trust me; it was not a virtuous experience. That was how they saw the Captain as he came to them.
“David, you look surprised to see me here. You should not be. You knew very well that this was coming. Did you really think you could stop us that easily? Poor you, I really pity you. And for Jean, did she think that she had really solved the cases? All you did was win the war so that we could win the battle.” Meake said.
“You son of a demon, how could you do this to your own people; your own detective. What did she ever do to you to do this to her?” David replied in pain.
“Oh, you still don’t get it. You dare ask what she did! She poked her silly nose at the wrong place and took you down with her. You on the other hand… should feel lucky to be alive. Tell you what; your escape did us incredibly good. In fact, we did not know what to do to get rid of her and you as well but… you gave us all the answers when you escaped from prison.”
“What do you know about my escape…? After all, your pawns are in prison. None of you can do a thing anymore. The fellow calling the shots is dead. You have no more moves.”
“Oh poor David, you know… this is what got you out of the army. That little poor heart of yours makes you weak to be a soldier. You could never kill me. The Mystery man was a diversion for you to follow. I was here all the while. I am the true Mystery man and the Clairvoyant still lives.
For John and his accomplices, we needed them exactly where they are. The prison is full of innocent souls. When these individuals gather evidence to destroy us, they have to die.
It’s not a perfect world we live in soldier… you should know that at least. He is just getting ready for his next mission. Oh… why give me that look… you never saw this coming? Of course you did not see it coming…”
He turned to address Jean, “And as for you… your stupidity has killed you. You could have stopped poking. Maybe… you could not be bleeding to your death right now. I liked you Jean… but, you interfered with our plan… you had to go. And that is not the best part yet...”
“What is the best part you stupid creature.” David asked in anger.
“David, why the much anger? Just relax and try to save your friend because I know you will… And wait for it... you have been three steps behind all along. Next time, try to keep up. Now, if you do not mind, I need to go back to being captain.”
“This is not over yet you animal. I will come for you and when I do, you will wish you were in hell because that’s where you belong... with other lunatics.”
“Of course I know… it’s not over David. We are just starting but… for you… it is very over. I already know I am an animal. I have been called that before… by minions just like you.”
“We shall see about that…”
“Silly to give threats in your situation soldier… don’t you think?”
The captain left them there and headed to the precinct. David and Jonas were left trying to stop Jean’s bleeding as they awaited the ambulance. She was wounded badly and losing much blood. They could not understand why they never saw the whole thing earlier. They thought having won but realized; they had just unleashed the demon themselves.
They did not have much to do other than try saving Jean’s life. Finally, the ambulance arrived and they took her to the hospital. While on the way, reports were coming out that David had found the traitors and shot one dead, of whom, happened to be Detective Jean. They were crediting David for the good work of discovering the infiltrators that were eating the core of the society.
To make matters worse, he even saw himself on television articulating how Jean was a mole and that; he shot her after she tried to kill him first. That was when he understood why the captain chattered about a surprise and his escape helping them move on to step two of their plan.
None of them could believe how everything that seemed to be in place would fall that fast. With the news and reports, they could no longer head for the hospitals. They could not risk anyone finding Jean there. She had been marked as a traitor. All they did was trace one of his old friends. He was to help them as they thought of what to do thereafter.
By the time, Jean had passed out because of the much blood-loss. She was standing thinly between life and death. There was no certainty that Jean was going to survive neither did they know of what to do next.
At the prison where John and the agents were, one of the agents was summoned for a call. It was from none other but the Clairvoyant. He called to give them the green light to go over to step two.
“The threat has been taken care of. She has been eliminated. You should move on to step two of Operation Red Storm.” He assumed the code name Operation Red Storm for the mission they were undertaking.
“All right sir. Consider it done.” Agent 2 replied.
After hanging up the phone, he was escorted back to his cell. He had to let his friends and cohorts know about the green light. Since they were all locked up in different cells, he had to wait until it was leisure time. The only time they had a chance to meet and share the briefing.
