“Do you see that?” said Raneld. It was late afternoon, and we’d both been scanning the horizon in search of a good camping spot. Instead, though, he’d spotted what I saw only an instant later, a column of smoke rising up into the sky. I gave a whinny and nodded. “If I were a sensible person, I’d probably steer us away from it. But I’m curious. There are several peoples that live on the plains. None of them are especially hostile, as far as I know. And we both know perfectly well that I’m not a sensible person at all.
