CHAPTER 15Matt and Spotty stood near the doline under a protective overhang of rock, watching the storm. The land had turned black and blue and heavy. Lightning spread in sheets like breaking colored glass. And a giant downpour flooded over the rocks. It roared from the rim of the overhanging ledge in a solid stream. Peering through it, Matt shivered, feeling as if he hid behind a waterfall. They had reached the ledge just in time to save the gear. For what, he thought bitterly? Save the gear for what? A keepsake? Something to remember my yellow belly by? The rock and brush of the karst, and the woods and green fields beyond, were lashed like a wild river by wind. Rain whipped the gully walls.
