CHAPTER FOURTEEN Sully’s fight with Gleason failed epically – or at least it would have if held at a tournament. Gleason, a veteran warrior experienced at fighting ruffians, coach robbers, and hooligans, was ultimately overmatched by the young man training to be a priest but who was raised by rangers to fight with sword, spear, and axe. Driven by anger, Sully kept the sheriff busy deflecting sword blows while he shouted out his cousin’s name with each swing of his sword. It didn’t take long before Sully broke through Gleason’s defenses and sliced deep into his upper left arm. Gleason retreated in turn, crying out in pain while fear coursed through his mind.
