Chapter 18Gil knocked on Tilly’s red door. She shuffled from side to side as she looked at the sky. She hoped that unlike the last time she stopped at her house, she’d be more inclined to let her inside. Through the crack of the door, Tilly had expanded on her housing situation, but it still left Gil feeling bereft. She pushed the thoughts away and looked at her phone. There was one from Selene, which complained of sunburn. I didn’t pack enough because of the limits over the border. Now it’s too late. Does sunscreen go on afterwards? Will it help with the itch? Aloe, Gil wrote back. She was about to offer up her own supply, half from potted plants and another half from a neon blue bottle in her lonely fridge at her place—yet another relic from an ex-girlfriend—when the door opened.
