As she reached the edge of the road, blinded by tears, headlights appeared out of nowhere, growing larger but Diana didn't really see them. Her vision was clouded by tears that refused to stop falling, and her chest hurt so much that breathing itself felt like punishment. She stumbled forward, clutching the fabric of her wedding dress as though holding onto it could somehow keep her entire world from slipping away. Just a few hours ago, she had walked down the aisle wearing this same dress. Just a few hours ago, Thompson had looked into her eyes and promised to love her for the rest of his life. She remembered the warmth of his hand around hers, the gentle smile he had given her, the way he had brushed a strand of hair away from her face before the ceremony. "You look beautiful," he had whispered. At the time, she had believed him. Gosh…he had loved him. She had loved him with everything she had left after losing her parents. After their deaths, there had only been two people in her life who mattered. Her younger sister, Nora and Thompson. One had become the family she protected and the other had become the future she dreamed of. She had given them everything and tonight, they had destroyed her together. A broken sob escaped her lips as she walked aimlessly down the empty street. Then, suddenly...a memory surfaced. It was so small that she had never thought about it before. The three of them had been eating dinner together a few months ago. Nora had accidentally dropped her fork. The sound had barely registered before Thompson had reached out and wrapped an arm around her waist. "Careful," he had said. Diana had laughed back then, she had thought he was simply looking out for her younger sister. Another memory followed during Sarah's birthday, her god mother dinner, Nora had spilled wine across Thompson's shirt. Diana had immediately stood up to grab napkins, but Nora had stopped her. "I'll do it." She had leaned close. Her fingers had brushed against Thompson's chest while they both laughed quietly about something Diana couldn't hear. At the time, she had smiled. She remembered thinking… I'm so lucky. She had a husband who cared about her family and a sister who accepted the man she loved. Now those memories twisted inside her like knives. So that wasn't concern, kindness or family. They had been lovers all along while she had been planning a wedding. While she had been dreaming about children. They had been laughing behind her back. She suddenly remembered something Sarah had once told her. "Diana... don't give people your whole heart. Some will only use it to break you." Back then, she had smiled and defended them. "Not Thompson, god mother." How stupid she had been. Her breathing became uneven as another realization hit her. Everything her parents had left behind was all under her name. She had trusted Thompson enough to begin adding him to financial documents after the wedding. She had even planned to make Nora a director in one of the family companies. A bitter laugh escaped her. So that was why. Her legs finally gave out, and she dropped to her knees in the middle of the road, tears falling freely onto the pavement. "I loved you..." she whispered. "I really loved both of you..." The headlights grew brighter and closer and then something caught her eye. Her entire body froze, she knew that car. Thompson had been staring at it through a dealership window. "You deserve it," she had told him. "It'll be my wedding gift." He had hugged her that day, he had even cried. The car accelerated and Diana's eyes widened in shock "No..." The engine roared louder. "No..." For one impossible second, their eyes met through the windshield. She expected him to stop or to turn the wheel. She expected something but then she noticed a smirk appear on his face. The impact came a heartbeat later. Pain exploded through her entire body as she was thrown into the air like she weighed nothing at all. Her head struck the ground. Rain began falling. Diana tried to move but she couldn't, her body wouldn't listen. Blood trickled down the side of her face. A car door opened and then footsteps approached. Her blurred vision slowly focused on Thompson stood over her beside him was Nora. Nora looked down at Diana's broken body, and all the color drained from her face. "T-Thompson..." Her voice shook. "I... I think she's dying." She took a step backward. "This wasn't supposed to happen." Thompson looked down at his wife but his expression never changed. Then a small, satisfied smile appeared on his face. "I know." Nora looked at him. "What do we do?" He slipped his hands into his pockets and looked at Diana almost thoughtfully. "This is for the best." Nora stared at him. "What?" He looked back at her. "If Diana survives, she'll divorce me." Rain dripped from his hair onto his face. "She'll take everything with her." He looked down at Diana again. "If she dies..." His smile grew slightly wider. "...then we get the life we've always wanted." Diana's fingers twitched, she tried to speak and beg but all that came out was a weak, broken sound. Thompson crouched beside her. "Oh? You want help?" Diana looked at him through tear-filled eyes. He reached out, for one beautiful, impossible second, Diana thought he was going to hold her hand. Instead, he gently wiped a streak of blood from her cheek. "You know," he said quietly, "it's almost funny." Nora stood frozen. Thompson chuckled softly. "I spent years pretending to love you." His eyes met hers. "And you never noticed." Diana felt another piece of her heart shatter. Nora suddenly pointed toward the open trunk of the car. "T-Thompson baby. There are people approaching. Let’s end it." Thompson smirked, “I has been my wish.” “Y…you son of a bitch.”
