Before Jenna could answer the approaching drones smashed into the Defender’s shields. One flared into a large explosion which caused a small but noticeable drop in the shield’s strength. The others disappeared in much smaller explosions. Jenna guessed they’d been destroyed by their impact against the shields without their payload being detonated.
Her heart jumped as she realised the Defender could run now, though in the time it took to pull away from the Steel Hook they’d still take enough damage to destroy the Defender many times over. The weaponry it mounted was truly terrifying.
Fire from the massive ship was already impacting on the Defender’s shields. Jenna poured power into the engines, getting the Defender moving, even as she knew it was a futile gesture.
She looked down
