Ivy sent Carrie a message to tell her that she wouldn’t be coming back that afternoon. Shortly after, Ivy pulled into her driveway. She had never been more thankful for a weekend off. Apollo seemed to know she was upset. He was extra attentive and gave more snuggles than usual when she finally settled on the couch with a hot cup of tea and a dog treat for him. “You’re the best thing to ever happen to me, bud.” She scratched behind his ear. Ivy felt so tired. Working on the fundraiser had drained her physically, and now the encounter with her mother had emotionally worn her out.
