CHAPTER SIX There were two full weeks more, in which Tom and Len were away, or otherwise totally preoccupied with other business. But during that time, June and Connie found more and more in common-their friendship blossoming. The evenings in the apartment were kept cozy, and it was usually just the two of them, sharing a well-cooked dinner and a fire in the old living room fireplace warding off the increasingly chill winds of late fall. After supper they would study and chat, usually about classes, the general goings-on of the campus. Then they would get ready for bed; but now they always shared June's big double, and would read, and talk, sometimes listening to the wind whining in the trees outside their second-floor window.
