Christian's hand found mine as we watched Tom's SUV disappear into traffic, his fingers intertwining with mine like he was afraid I might vanish too. "Come on," he said, his voice tight with barely controlled rage. "We need to get somewhere safe." His BMW was parked two blocks away, and Christian kept scanning the streets like he expected Tom to circle back with reinforcements.
