“Welcome to the next event of the night, the Hunt!” The old man shouts as everyone cheers and claps. My heart is beating out of my chest, and I can’t breathe. What the f**k is the hunt? Is? Were the hunt? My mind is racing, as everyone applauds. “As you all know, the hunt is sacred tradition the Kings of Night have performed for centuries. It not only shows their skill, but proves their loyalty. Each King will hunt down a tribute, and bring her to the chapel. If a tribute is not found and captured they are free to go. But if found and captured they must surrender their will to their captor.” He says. “I’m sorry what? Surrender our will?” I shout out to him. Everyone stares at me and the old man walks over to me. “Miss Harper, you came on your own free will. We did not hold a gun to your head and force you here. You had the chance to not attend tonight. We take your attendance as participation. A lot of greatness will come out of this not only for you, but for all of the participants. Now, kindly hold your tongue.” He says to me. I nod and stay quiet with defeat. I mean he is right, I did come on my own free will. “Tributes you have a 10 minute head start to get away. You may roam anywhere in the castle, as long as you stay inside of it. The doors to the outside are locked and will not budge. You will not be watched to make it fair, so all cameras have been shut off for the duration of the hunt. This castle holds many rooms and many halls, so I suggest you run quickly and quietly. As for the chapel, members, tributes, and council only. The Kings will return with their Queens to the ballroom after the ceremony is completed. Now tributes your ten minutes starts now! Go!” He shouts at us. He doesn’t need to tell me twice, I take off running down the stairs of the hallway listening to the shouts of cheer behind me. I take a right and come to another staircase and climb it with all my strength. It leads to another hall. “f**k!” I breathe out. There’s so many halls! I stop to take off my heals, and take off again. Turning corners left and right, going into room after room. I couldn’t find my way back if I wanted to. Ten minutes should have passed by now. I calm myself and my breathing and slip into a dark room. I can’t see anything but I feel around for something to touch. I walk further into the room and hit something hard. “Ah f**k! My knee cap!” I wince, as I hold it. I feel around the hard thing and realize it’s a bed. Hell yeah. I get down to the ground and slide underneath the huge bed. Is everything in here giant? I must’ve been here for at least five minutes before I heard footsteps. Not one but two sets of footsteps. I cover my mouth and calm myself breathing. The footsteps get closer and closer. I’m holding my breath now. The steps come inside the room. Oh f**k! Please don’t find me! I hear the footsteps come to the bed. And one of them sit on it while the other stands there. I think I’m going to have a heart attack my heart is beating so loud, I’m sore they can hear it. “I don’t know man, I don’t think she’s here.” One of them says. “I think you’re right let’s go search the north end. She can’t be far.” The other one says. “f**k, I can’t wait to hear her scream when we catch her.” I heard the same one say. “One of many.” The other man say. “Come on let’s go.” The same man says. They both start walking to the door and I can hear their footsteps leaving, as I let out a breath I had been holding. f**k that was close. I need to keep moving. Slowly and soundless I slide from under the bed. My eyes have adjusted to the darkness so I can tell when I’m at now. I lift myself off of the floor and creep to the doorway and peep out. I don’t hear anything or see anyone. I think they went to the right so I’ll go left. Tip toeing out of the room I go left and make my way to another set of stairs. I look around to make sure no one is here and tread on. A scream echos through the halls, and I take off running. I make it to the top of the stairs and bolt down the hall. A man pops out at the end of the hall. I stop running. It’s Vincent, staring back at me and he slowly starts to walk towards me. I turn and start to head back down the hallway to the stairs, when I stop again. Nathaniel is walking towards me with a smirk. Both men coming in both directions. I’m trapped. I see a random door and make a break for it, closing it behind me. It’s another bedroom. I run to the wardrobe and hide inside of it. I hear the door open. “Harper.” Nathaniel teases as he walks around the room. “Come out come out wherever you are.” Vincent laughs in a sinister tone. I cover my mouth and hope to god they don’t find me. “Come on Harper, we don’t bite. Hard.” Nathaniel laughs out. I hear footsteps coming closer and stop in front of the wardrobe. I hide as far as I can into the clothes trying to blend in. The doors swing open, and the room goes quiet. I’m holding my breath again, as the silence continues. What the f**k are they doing? Maybe my dress blended in with the clothes. Suddenly I’m jerked out of the wardrobe and thrown over a set of strong shoulders. I scream out. “Let me go you assholes!” I shout at them as I try to wriggle free of Vincent’s hold. I know it’s him because he has long dark hair. “Now, now is that any way to speak to your new masters?” Nathaniel grins out. I look up at him from Vincent’s shoulders and scream at him. “You’re not my f*****g masters! f**k you both! Let me go now!” I spit out. “You hear that Nathan, we’ve got us a little fireball.” Vincent says as he continues walking. I try with all of my might to get out of Vincent’s hold but I can’t. I feel so weak. All I can do is scream all the way to the chapel.
