Stepping out into the darkness, I feel the warm summer breeze hit my shoulders. I stop to take in the beauty of this monstrous castle before me. Dark, old, and chilling. I’ve never been so close to Barrington Hall before, just a glimpse from a far. I stand before two large wooden doors in an alleyway entrance. Before I could continue eyeing the Beaty before me the large doors opened, and two men wearing the same black suits with the letters KN embroidered on their suit jacket pockets stood before me. “Harper Prescott, please come inside.” The large man in the left says. How do they know my name? I’ve literally never been here before. Confused I nod and move my legs forward to go through the threshold. Once inside the doors close with a deep loud echoing thud. The sound alone makes me jump. As expected the inside is even more breathtaking than the outside. Dark stone walls and floors, candle lighting along the walls, beautiful grand stone staircases, blood red curtains hang from the incredibly large windows, and so many doors leading to every mysterious secret Barrington has ever held. “Wow. Everything is so beautiful!” I whispered out loud. The man who spoke earlier smiles and nods. “Right this way, Miss Prescott.” He says as he gestures me to follow him.
His footsteps echo as he leads me down a long hallway. Anxiety creeps on me as I start to wonder where everyone is. I mean this is a ball, where is the noise? Shouldn’t there be music and talking at least? My heart can’t help but pound out of my chest as we venture further and further down the halls of Barrington. The man finally reaches a big black iron door and knocks. Clicking sounds throughout the hall and the large door slowly starts lowering down. As if there were a mote around us, the door lays horizontal in front of me. I look ahead and see nothing but black curtains illuminated by candlelight. The man gestures for me to go, but I pause. “Miss Prescott, please go forward and enjoy your evening.” The man says with a smile, as he turns around to leave the way he came. I look forward and slowly take a step on to the door. As soon as I make it across the door starts coming up, and I’m in full panic mode. The door slams shut and I can hear music. I walk through the curtained walkway and make my way to the small opening, and step inside.
