Chapter 8: The Alpha's Forbidden Intern

THEA
When we got outside, Rowan’s driver had already started the car. Liana had to wave at him before he pulled over properly for us to enter.
Liana sat in front beside the driver while I sat at the back with Rowan.
I kept stealing little glances at him, wondering if he was really going to leave us alone.
But Rowan didn’t even look my way.
He was focused on his phone, his fingers moving quickly against the screen, as if whoever he was chatting with was stressing him out badly.
The car drove out of the pack house quietly.
Nobody talked.
The silence inside the car felt heavy, but not uncomfortable. Just... strange.
I looked out the tinted window, watching wolves move around the city. Some were in suits, heading to work, while others wore uniforms, and still others rode bikes through the busy streets. Tall buildings stood proudly around us with pack symbols shining on them.
Then finally, we stopped in front of the tallest company building in the city.
I stared up at it.
Moon... The place looked powerful.
The black glass building stretched so high into the sky that I almost felt dizzy looking at it.
The driver drove into the underground garage before parking carefully.
Liana and the driver got out first.
I was about to step out too when suddenly, a warm hand landed softly on my thigh.
My breath caught.
Rowan’s palm moved slowly once... then twice before he removed it as nothing happened.
“We need to talk,” he said simply before stepping out of the car.
My cheeks burned instantly.
I stayed inside for a few seconds trying to calm myself down before following after him.
The moment I got down, Liana grabbed my hand tightly like we were still in school and could get lost anywhere.
I laughed softly.
As we walked into the company, workers immediately started bowing respectfully at Rowan.
“Good morning, Alpha.”
“Morning, sir.”
“Alpha Rowan.”
He acknowledged them with small nods as he walked confidently through the building like he owned the ground beneath him.
Which he technically did.
The inside of the company was even more beautiful than the outside. Everything looked expensive. Marble floors, shining walls, huge wolf symbols carved into silver pillars.
I tried not to look too amazed.
When we reached the center hall, Rowan finally stopped walking.
“Your positions in the company are different,” he said calmly, looking between Liana and me. “So you’ll both be working in separate buildings.”
My eyes widened a little.
“Thea’s workspace is here with me,” he continued. “Liana’s office is upstairs in the media department.”
Then he turned to the driver.
“Take Liana to the social media manager. She’ll guide her through everything she needs.”
The driver nodded immediately.
“I’ll take Thea myself.”
A smile almost escaped my lips.
Was I going to work close to him?
Moon... And Liana would be in another building? That meant space. A lot of space.
But beside me, Liana frowned deeply. “How am I supposed to see her now?” she complained, crossing her arms.
Rowan gave her a look. “You’re here to work, not play around with your friend all day.”
Liana’s frown deepened even more.
“This is a company, not a playground,” Rowan continued calmly. “You can see each other after closing hours.”
Liana looked seconds away from rolling her eyes. Honestly, I was trying not to laugh. She pulled me closer suddenly and whispered into my ear dramatically. “Don’t worry. I’ll sneak out to check on you.”
I smiled immediately.
“And if anybody bullies you,” she continued seriously, “report them to my dad immediately.”
I nodded softly. “Okay.”
We hugged quickly.
I was already going to miss her but honestly... part of me was excited too.
Rowan waited patiently until we were done before walking toward one of the elevators.
I watched sadly as Liana followed the driver toward another hallway.
“Aww,” I muttered softly. “My best friend is so cute.” She didn’t turn around, but somehow I knew she heard me.
Then I turned towards Rowan again.
He was already waiting inside the elevator with an impatient look on his face.
I hurried toward him quickly, ignoring the curious stares around me.
The moment I entered, the elevator doors closed and suddenly... Rowan grabbed me.
I gasped softly as my back hit the wall. His body pressed close enough for me to feel his warmth immediately.
“You’ve gotten too attached to my daughter,” he said lowly. “I could literally feel her sadness from leaving you.”
I stared up at him before laughing softly. My fingers moved slowly against his chest. “We’re attached to each other,” I corrected gently. “I’m sad too.”
His eyes stayed on mine.
“No one will protect me if I get bullied,” I added innocently.
Rowan scoffed immediately. “So I’m a joke to you now?”
I bit my lip to stop my smile.
“Do you really think anybody would dare touch you once they know you’re with me?” His voice dropped lower. “No one in this company would even try it.”
I slowly grabbed his tie, pulling him a little closer.
Our faces were suddenly too close. “I’m sorry, Alpha,” I whispered. “I forgot.”
His body went slightly still.
For one tiny second, I felt his control slipping, then suddenly, he stepped back away from me. Fast.
“You’re here to work, Thea,” he said firmly. “Not to seduce me.”
I blinked at him innocently even though my heart was dancing happily.
“There should be boundaries between us.”
The elevator doors opened.
“You’re my daughter’s best friend,” he continued as he walked out. “What do you think will happen if Liana catches us?”
I followed after him, hiding my smile. There he goes again, pulling himself away, trying to act strong.
Let’s see how long that lasts when we’ll be seeing each other every day.
We walked deeper into the company until we reached a large open workspace filled with workers typing, answering calls, and moving around with files.
The moment Rowan entered, the atmosphere shifted.... Everybody straightened immediately.
“Good morning, Alpha.”
“Morning, boss.”
Some people bowed respectfully, others stared at me openly.
I already understood those looks. Some women looked jealous because I came in with Rowan.
Some men looked at me a little too long because of my outfit, and others just looked curious.
I ignored all of them.
I had experienced worse before and honestly?
If anybody tried bullying me here, I wasn’t staying quiet anymore.
Before reporting them to Rowan, I would definitely deal with them first using my mouth.
“Rosa,” Rowan called calmly.
A woman immediately stood up from one of the desks.
“Yes, boss.”
She looked elegant and classy. Maybe in her late forties. Her gray suit looked expensive, and everything about her screamed rich wolf woman.
“This is Thea,” Rowan said. “She’ll be joining your department as an intern for one year before officially working with us.”
Rosa smiled warmly at me immediately. “Welcome to our company.”
I shook her hand politely. “Thank you.”
Then Rowan spoke again.
“She’s important to me.”
My heart skipped.
I stayed still immediately, trying not to react too much.
Important to him. Moon... He didn’t even introduce me as Liana’s friend.
Rosa nodded respectfully. “I understand, sir.”
“Take good care of her.”
“Yes, boss.”
Then Rowan’s eyes moved slowly over my outfit again.
I almost sighed.
Was he still bothered about my clothes?
“And teach her how to dress professionally for work.”
I stared at him in disbelief.
Seriously?
Rosa looked between us before smiling slightly. “I actually think she looks very nice already,” she admitted honestly. “I would love to know where she got her skirt.”
I smiled instantly.
Okay... I liked Rosa already.
Rowan looked unimpressed. “Well, you should still teach her.”
I almost rolled my eyes.
This man truly had personal issues with my clothes.
He started walking toward his office, but stopped again after a few steps. “Oh, and give her a desk directly outside my office.”
I blinked slowly.
“I want to monitor her progress personally,” he added calmly. “And call her whenever she needs mentoring.”
Mentoring?
I nearly laughed.
Rowan was such a cunning man.
Rosa nodded professionally. “Of course, sir.”
Finally, Rowan looked at me one last time, just one look but somehow it still made my stomach flip.
Then he entered his office and shut the door behind him.
I stared at the closed door for a few seconds before smiling to myself.
Moon...This man truly had no idea what he had just started.
Because now?
He was going to see me every single day.
