ROWAN I stared at the document in front of me. My eyes were on the papers, but my mind wasn't. All I could think about was Thea. I needed time alone with her. I was already tired of hiding us, but I couldn't reveal our relationship yet, not now. She hadn't trained enough to stand in front of everyone. The people in this city never kept their opinions to themselves, and once they found out she was close to me, they would judge every little thing she did. She wasn't ready for that. I leaned back in my chair and slowly closed my hand into a fist. If we stayed at home, there were too many eyes watching us. The servants would notice. Her friend hardly left her side either. If she came to my office too often, people would start talking. I needed somewhere no one would think of looking.
