Independent candidate Victoria Kendall stormed to victory in the Little Bassington by-election last night, securing over 2,000 votes in a landslide result which consigned her opponent to political irrelevance.
The outcome of the contest is likely to send shockwaves through the Town Hall, as the scale of her win is absorbed. Miss Kendall was already seen as the favourite in what was viewed as a tense race, with strongly-held views apparent on both sides, but few will have expected her to have collected such unprecedented levels of support.
