Chapter 3: Two parts of a soul

1075 Words
The way to Freya's house is quite long and takes me several hours to make. The area where she lives is shielded, I am not sure whether it is part of the human world and enchanted, or if the shield that surrounds her home takes you to another dimension. I never asked her, but knowing Freya, she may not even have answered, had I asked. Because of the shield, it is impossible to teleport to her, so every time I go to see her, I must make the journey the old fashion way. I do not mind, as I quite like flying, besides there are a lot of forests to fly over. Depending on my mood, I sometimes decide to fly in between the trees and just enjoy nature while watching the animals go about their day. They are not as scared of a bird, as they would be of a human being.  On this day, the sky was blue and clear, so I was flying high above the trees. I looked down at the treetops, everything looked beautiful. Nature at its best, the trees blended into each other in different shades of green. Every now and again the trees would give way to a lake, and the water would mirror the sky and give a nice contrast of blue amongst the green. When I reached the house where Freya lives, she was waiting outside on the porch for me and had made us tea. I should be surprised that she knew I was coming around, but I stopped wondering about how she seemed to know everything centuries ago.  Freya has a short frame, and only goes up to my chest. She has a native American look about her and long white hair that is normally pulled back in a braid. She looks like she should be in her mid-fifties, but her blue eyes tell another story. I am not sure how long she has walked this earth, but she is much older than me. In lack of better words, she is my mother. She took me in and raised me when no one else wanted me. My parents abandoned me at birth, and I have no idea who they are. I know that I am a demon, which in essence is supposed to be evil, but Freya has raised me with love and empathy and has taught me how to not give in to my darker tendencies. We spent some time catching up, as I had not seen her in a few decades. After a while, I told her that I met a girl. I was very careful not to mention who Cassie was. I do not believe that Freya will cause a threat to her, and she may already know who Cassie is, but Nick went through a lot to make sure that Cassie was hidden, and that no one knows about her existence or connection to Nick. It was also not my secret to tell. I told Freya about the weird electric shock that happened when me and Cassie touched. Freya zooms out for a while. It is not unusual, and I am fairly used to it, so it did not worry me. Freya is a bit peculiar, but because I spent most of my childhood around her, I have become accustomed to some weird things that she does. Even though I grew up around her, I am not sure what sort of being she is, as she never talks about it. I know that she is several thousand years old and that she seems to know about everything that is going on in one capacity or another. I have always been able to count on her when I need her. Most of the time it is not in the way I expect. She gives me guidance when I need it, but at the same time she lets me make my own mistakes so that I can learn from them. I can undoubtedly say that she has made me a better person, or should I say demon. Freya eventually came out of her trance and spent a moment to collect herself. "An electric shock happens to wake up two parts of a soul that have known each other before" I was a bit confused, as that did not make sense to me. I waited for her to say anything else, but she had already moved on and reached for her tea again. From previous experiences, I knew that she had finished telling me everything she wanted me to know about it. She could be a bit mysterious and hard to deal with sometimes. I bent down slightly to give Freya a kiss on the cheek as I got myself ready to transform back to a bird and make the journey home. Before I transformed, Freya reached up and grabbed my shoulders and gave them a squeeze, to get my attention. I turned to face her, and she glanced right into my eyes. "Remember to look through your heart, instead of your eyes. The reality you can see is not complete" She let go of me and walked back into the house after that. I had no clue what she just told me meant. She did not always make sense, and she was very good at speaking in riddles. By walking back into the house, she made it clear that it was something not to be discussed. On the flight back home, I spent most of the time considering what Freya said and what it all may mean. I had been hoping for some decent answers, but I should have known better. Thinking back, she has always been speaking in riddles so why should this time be any different. When I got home, I checked my phone in hope that Cassie had sent me a text. Unfortunately, I was not that lucky. Even though I was worried about her, I decided that the best thing to do was to give her some space. I did not want to overwhelm her or scare her away. I want her to be my friend, but I had realised that she was not going to believe anything I told her, if she did not trust me. It turned out to be much harder than I thought, and I was really struggling, but I spent the next couple of days, doing my best to give Cassie the space she needed. Hoping that she would text me eventually, so that I could talk to her.
