The days went on and I tried my best to give Cassie space. I watched her from a distance, ready to step in if anything were to happen. She had still not texted me, and when I saw her in college, she was not making any attempt to talk to me. Most of the time she was on the other side of the classroom, as far away as possible. Did I really scare her to the point that she wants nothing to do with me?
Mark was becoming a pain, every moment he was around something happened. Either he pushed me, or he was slaying me off to his friends loud enough for me to hear. It bothers me, because I knew how easily I could shut him up, but I took it, because I knew that if I used my powers it may put Cassie in danger, besides this was nothing compared to the actual t*****e I had received in the past.
When Friday came around, I was in a slight panic. I wished I would have had a chance to talk to Cassie and tell her what she was, but I did not want to force her, and she still had not texted me. It was Cassie's birthday, she was turning 17 today, so there was a chance something supernatural may happen to her today.
In an attempt to keep a better eye on her, I had decided to skip college, as it was easier to follow her around in my bird form. That way she would not know that I was around, but I could flash or more correctly, teleport myself to her side in less than a second, should I need to.
I got her a present for her birthday. It was a talisman for protection, in the form of a necklace with her dad's symbol on it. I thought it was a nice touch. It may seem a bit reckless giving that to her, but Nick's symbol was not common knowledge. I could count on one hand the people or rather entities and demons that know what it is and what it means and none of them would even dare to touch Cassie, as they are all loyal to Nick.
Halfway through the day I could tell that something was bothering Cassie, but I did not know what it was. I could not fly around inside the college without looking suspicious, so instead I was sitting by the window of Cassie's next class. While I was waiting for her to turn up to class, I got a weird feeling that something was not right. I teleported myself to her side and realised that she was lying unconscious in the hallway. Panic started to consume me as I was not sure what had caused her to become unconscious. I scanned the area for anything that may be responsible, while preparing myself to fight whatever being that may have hurt her, but everything looked and felt normal.
Without thinking, I grabbed her in my arms and teleported us to my house. When I touched her, I got another electric shock as well as some flashbacks of a memory in my head. It was too fast for me to see anything; I just felt a moment of belonging. But it was over so quickly that I was questioning myself if it even happened.
When I got to the house, I placed Cassie carefully on my bed and double-checked that all the protecting spells were working, just in case someone was after her and had hurt her. I even added a few more protections just to be on the safe side. She could likely use all her powers and blow the whole house up and no one would be able to feel her energy.
After looking her over, I calmed down a bit. Cassie did not seem to have any injuries and as far as I could tell there was nothing wrong with her. There must be another explanation to why she was unconscious.
I grabbed a chair and positioned myself next to the bed, prepared to wait for as long as it took for Cassie to wake up. Luckily, I did not have to wait too long. After a moment, Cassie started to stir. She clutched her head and mumbled something. I could not make out what she was trying to tell me until she started shouting for something to shut up. A second later she was unconscious again. I looked around for anything that may have caused it, nothing should be able to get into the house without my knowledge. Despite this I sent out my energy just to be certain, but I could not sense anything unusual.
I was at a loss, she was clearly in pain, but I did not know what to do to help her. I had never felt this helpless, not even when I was stuck in the hell dimension. It got me thinking, Nick had the ability to read minds. Thinking back, he kept telling me that it felt like the whole world was screaming at him before he learned to control it. Maybe that was what was happening, but the necklace should have protected her against it.
I looked down at Cassie again and realised that she was not wearing the necklace I gave her. I conjured it up and placed it around her neck, the second I did, her whole body seemed to relax. A few minutes later, Cassie opened her eyes and jumped out of the bed and made her way to the opposite side of the room from where I was standing.
"Where am I? How did I get there? What were you doing to me?"
I could feel the panic radiate from her. I tried to send her calming energy, but it did not seem to work. No surprise there really, Nick was immune to most of my abilities, so why should his daughter be any different.
I tried to explain everything to Cassie, but I left out the demon part, as most people have a negative view on us and think that we are all bad, and I did not want to scare Cassie away, especially not now when she finally was hearing me out.
I was surprised with how calm she seemed when I explained about the necklace and that it would protect her and help her to control her powers. She listened to me attentively, before she spoke up.
“Am I a witch? And what about my mum, is she still alive too?"
I did not know what to say. How was she not freaking out and how did she know about witches? I tried to avoid the first question, as I knew where it would lead, instead I concentrated on answering the second one.
"Your mother is dead, she died while trying to keep you safe and protect you from harm, which is why your dad, even though he loves you very much, decided to send you away."
She looked at me hopefully, "Can I meet him?"
How do I tell her that he is in another realm and that she cannot go there before she gets her full powers, and he cannot come here, as every supernatural within 50 miles will know that he is here. Sure, he could likely fight them all at the same time and win, but he will not risk it if there is even a small chance that anyone would find out about Cassie.
I settled for telling her a very edited part of the truth, repeating what I had already told her.
"Your dad loves you very much, but he cannot risk that anyone finds out that you are his daughter, so you cannot see him for now".
There was a second of hurt in her eyes, but then she collected herself and started looking around for something. A moment later she reached for her bag and got her phone out.
"I really need to get back home before they start worrying about me. I'm not sure how I got here but would you mind getting me home?"
I was debating with myself whether I should just teleport her home, but she seemed to finally trust me, well maybe she did not trust me yet, but at least she did not seem scared to be around me anymore. In the end, I decided to conjure up a car as I did not want to scare her with mine, and at some point her ability to move from one place to another in the blink of an eye.
"Sure, I will drive you home" I said, while leading her to the garage where my new car had just appeared.
