The Pack House

Ruby "Zylon, it's good to see your face," I said, locking gazes with him. In that moment, it felt as if the rest of the world faded away, leaving just the two of us. Zylon's large, warm hands gently cradled my face. "Thank you for accepting the mate bond. We will strive every day to be worthy of you," his voice deep and sincere. I nodded, "Be honored, because I'm willing to give this a try. Just don't mess it up," I replied, a playful smirk dancing across my lips. His blue eyes twinkled with joy, and he leaned down to press a tender kiss to my forehead. A rush of warmth spread through me. I couldn't help but blush; the simple gesture felt sweetly intimate. "We won't," he replied firmly. His gaze flicked over to his twin, who nodded his head in silent agreement. The pack house was enormous, with more than a hundred rooms. The twin alphas had the entire fifth floor to themselves, which was characterized by elegant furnishings and an expansive balcony that offered breathtaking views of the surrounding forest. The fourth floor was meant for the beta and Gamma. However, Tate had yet to move in. Other ranked members occupied the third and second floors, and the first floor contained conference rooms, a library, offices, an event room, meeting rooms, recreation rooms, grand dining halls, and much more. I selected a room positioned between Hayes' and Zylon's bedrooms. The layout of the apartment meant we would share a living room, a dining room, and even a recreation room—together in those communal spaces. For now, this arrangement suited me. The thought of living in such close proximity to my two powerful alpha mates both thrilled and terrified me. My heart raced wildly in my chest, and an unexpected warmth spread between my legs. My stomach flipped with a nervous energy. I was undeniably in trouble. My bedroom was spacious, just like my room back home. The walls were painted a calming shade of blue. A giant king-sized bed dominated the center of the room, adorned with soft, inviting linens and an array of decorative pillows that added a pop of color. Adjacent to the bed was a plush couch. There was an elegant vanity table, complete with a large, well-lit mirror. "That's so girly," I chuckled to myself. There was a walk-in, and an ensuite bathroom. Hayes walked in carrying my suitcase. "Is the room to your liking?" I turned my head to him and nodded. "Yes." "Good," I noted Zylon hadn't come in with him. Did he leave? I frowned. "I'll let you rest. I'll fetch you for dinner," After a much-needed shower, I sank into bed, the soft sheets enveloping me like a cloud. When I finally stirred from my nap, the golden hues of sunset slipped through the curtains, illuminating the room and letting me know it was past 5. I let out a yawn, stretching my limbs. I made my way out of the room, still feeling slightly dazed from sleep. I bumped into Hayes. "You're up. I was coming to check on you," he said, extending his hand, which I took. "Where's Zylon?" "I'm beginning to think you like him more than me," he feigned hurt. I chuckled as we entered the elevator. "I'm just worried about him," I turned to him, looking serious. I took both of his hands in mine. "Is Zylon okay?" He looked at me for a moment and slowly nodded. "Yes, now that you're here with us," he said, gently tucking a strand of hair behind my ear. "Aren't you going to tell me what's wrong?" The elevator came to a stop. "No," he replied. "Why?" I sounded like a whining child. "I'm not in a position to, love," We began walking, and surprisingly, he took me to the kitchen. Shane and Manon were there. Manon beamed when she saw me and gave me a bear hug. "I heard the good news! I wish you the best!" "Thank you," I said as I pulled away from her. "Luna, I heard you'll be staying with us," Jang, a top lieutenant, said with a smile. Next to him, Matt bowed his head; he was one of the top warriors in the pack. I noticed that everyone present was part of their inner circle. My mate wrapped an arm around my waist. "Ruby, I'm sure you know everyone here. They are the highest-ranking members of the pack and our friends. Everyone, allow me to introduce you to OUR mate, officially, Ruby Rue Rothwell," he announced. They all bowed respectfully to me. Luna Cynthia entered the kitchen, beaming. "So, when are we starting to plan her Luna ceremony?" Zylon appeared behind her, and my heart soared. Having both Hayes and Zylon in the same room was a feeling I couldn't describe. Zylon came to stand beside me. Everyone looked at me, and I felt flushed. "Um… eh..." I stuttered. A Luna ceremony? I had just accepted the bond. "When she's ready," Zylon said suddenly, looking at me. "When you're ready. No rush." I nodded. 'I would like to have a Luna ceremony. It will be perfect,' Ria chimed in. "Have you told her?" Zylon asked his brother. Hayes scowled and shook his head. "I was waiting for you to come. I wasn't going to do it alone," he murmured. Zylon gaped at him, looking displeased. "Hayes, we agreed you'd tell her," Zylon said, "We agreed WE'D tell her. Together," Hayes gritted his teeth. "Tell me what?" They all went silent. I looked between them, brows furrowed. They looked uneasy. "We have decided…" Hayes started, pointing his index finger between himself and Zylon to emphasize that it was both of their decisions, "to… take it up, Zylon." "Um, you've started already—you can finish," Zylon said, looking away. "Speak," I gritted my teeth, my words coming out slowly. "To give you your personal bodyguard," he said in one breath. "Hell no," I was shocked that they would even suggest that after the conditions I had set for accepting the bond. "Oops…" Manon whispered to the Gamma, who smirked, as if he had predicted this reaction from me. "I'll leave now," Luna Cynthia smiled and turned to leave. "Hayes, Zylon, I don't need a bodyguard. I refuse to have one," I stated vehemently. "Them, actually," Zylon grumbled, not looking me in the eye. "Two!" I exclaimed, and they both nodded. "They will alternate—" "I don't need a bodyguard, let alone two. I can protect myself well. Hell, I'm one of the top fighters in the pack," "You're still getting them. You need someone watching your back at all times. Shane will look after you as Gamma, of course," Hayes was firm, leaving no room for argument. I glanced at Shane, who bowed with a smile. I scowled at him. I knew that Gammas primarily served to protect the Lunas, but I didn't need protection. "Eun-Woo will be with you too when Shane is busy with other matters," Zylon said just as a tall, slim yet muscular man with shiny black hair walked into the kitchen. His warm black eyes found me, and he bowed his head. He smiled. He had a sweet smile. "Good evening, Luna. I'm Eun-Woo, but you can call me Eun. I'm a warrior in training and your new bodyguard. I hope we get along," he said. "Hello, Eun. It's very nice to meet you," I replied, before turning to my mates and glaring. "I don't need a bodyguard. Have you forgotten my conditions?" I asked them. "I'm sure he filled you in," I cast a glance at Zylon, who nodded. "This is not control; it's protection," Zylon insisted. “ You are getting personal bodyguards whether you like it or not, don't be a brat about it,” Hayes growled. I gasped, and glared at him. He looked apologetic for a second before he shrugged his shoulder. Everyone was looking at him dumbfounded. I just turned on my heel and stormed out of the kitchen.
