Training With Hayes

1033 Words
I woke up feeling drowsy the next day, and my body ached. Why did I drink so much? I didn't even remember how I came home. Tate probably carried me. The alarm sounded again. I stifled a scream, and I heard a bang. I sat up to check what that was. It's the alarm clock. It has fallen to the ground. How did that happen? I didn't even touch it! I'm still looking at it when I receive a mind link. ' You better come for training,' Hayes. Oh s**t! I'm training with Hayes today, and it's a one-on-one session. Hayes! My eyes widen when I remember we kissed last night, and I liked it! What was I thinking? I should have pushed him away or slapped him, but I was too stunned to react. ' And don't be late,' he adds. I groaned and lay back on the bed, cursing internally. Finally, I got up and put on my matching leggings, sports bra, and sneakers. I jogged to the training center and skidded to a halt when I noticed at least twenty new faces training in the field. They were all tall and handsome—shirtless. Most had scars across their bodies and even their faces, but that didn’t take away from their attractiveness. Who were they? I couldn’t help but stare. Ria in my head purred, 'Damn.' I was so focused on ogling them that I didn’t notice someone behind me until I felt a tap on my shoulder. I nearly jumped, gasping as I turned around. It was Hayes. He didn’t look impressed at all. His dark eyes glowed with what I could only assume was fury. “You're late,” he said. I rolled my eyes at him. Shouldn't he be used to it by now? I was always late. “Who are they?” I gestured toward the men. “None of your business. Follow me,” he started to walk away, but I didn’t follow. I crossed my arms against my chest. He stopped and turned his head to me with a sigh. “Why are you not following me?” “Where are we going?” “Away from here,” he replied, sounding exhausted with me. “I know, but where? We always train here,” I argued. “I don’t want any distractions, because it seems they already are,” he groaned, throwing a glance at the men. “It’s a sexy distraction,” I smirked, glancing at a very tall man who was almost a giant. Hayes growled at me and grabbed my elbow. “Don’t test my patience, sweetheart.” “You're testing mine, Alpha,” I frowned, yanking my hand away from his grip. Hayes was a typical hot-blooded alpha and wasn’t a gentleman at all. “Let’s start,” he said and pulled his shirt off. My breath caught in my chest. He was incredibly gorgeous, and once again, his tattoo caught my attention. Before I could prepare myself, his fist connected with my jaw, and I struggled to regain my balance. “I wasn’t ready,” I complained. “You should be ready at all times,” he retorted. “Ruby, I’ve noticed you easily get distracted.” “I’m only a girl,” He struck again, but this time I was ready. I ducked and swept him off his feet, but his body didn’t even touch the ground before he regained his equilibrium and kicked me in the stomach. I punched and kicked at his sides. “You're quick,” he nodded, clearly pleased. A sliver of pride swelled in me. Despite his muscular build, Hayes was fast. He was stronger than anyone I had fought, including Henry. Our fight was quick. He kicked and punched while I dodged and landed my own hits, even though he dodged well, too. For the first time in a fight, I felt exhausted. He showed no sign of fatigue and didn't groan once. The man was lethal. Training with him was exactly what I needed. I hadn’t been challenged since my father. After another hour, I was panting for breath, and he pulled away from me. “I could have killed you ten times,” he said, his voice now light. I had impressed him with my fighting skills. “And I could have taken you down five times,” I boasted. “I still win,” he said, sounding a bit childish. I couldn't help but smile. “It’s not a competition. Plus, you have the muscle advantage and years of training. You also have alpha blood,” I pointed out, feeling a little sore about the outcome. “You are smaller, which makes you quicker and more maneuverable. Don’t make excuses,” he replied. “Whatever,” I said, heading to the small fridge nearby to grab a bottle of water. He followed and snatched it from my hand, opened it, and then gave it back. His action surprised us both. Slowly, I drank the water. He did too. “If we’re done, can I go home?” I asked. “We are done.” I nodded and turned on my heel. He fell in line with me. “Is there any sign of another magical talent yet?” he asked. My mind went back to the alarm clock earlier, how it fell to the ground, but I wasn't sure if it was a magical talent or I accidently moved it. “Nope,” I answered, popping the “p." We left the training field in silence. I felt like a kid compared to this guy. To my surprise, Hayes continued walking beside me. I stopped, and he did too. I started walking again, and he followed suit. Hmmm. “What are you doing?” I asked, raising an eyebrow. “Walking you home,” he said gruffly. “I know my way. I grew up in this pack,” I snapped. “Why is it always a fight with you? Can't we just walk?” he growled lowly. He paused for a moment and added in a soft tone, “Please, I’d like to walk you home.”
