I got up and threw the knife away, seething with anger. Silvina screamed and jumped across the table towards me, but Zylon was quicker. He grabbed her by the throat and threw her against the wall. Valerie tried to attack me, but Hayes caught her arm, twisting it and pushing her down to the floor with a thud. She managed to get up again, but he restrained her from behind, pressing her head against the table. Growling and snarling filled the room. Tate was by my side.
"I'll kill her!" I screamed. Suddenly, a large grey wolf—Morgan's—launched at Hayes, but Manon intercepted it and tackled it across the room. Alpha Temmus shifted and lunged toward Hayes as well, but Shane did too, and they crashed into each other. The table splintered under the force. Fur flew throughout the room. I glanced toward my mother, who looked frightened and confused. I slipped out of Tate's hold and rushed to her.
"Are you okay?" I asked, and she cupped my face. I nodded as a few warriors barged into the room. Manon and Shane shifted back after subduing their opponents. Alpha Temmus lay on the floor, while Alpha Prius checked on him. Their entourage glared and snarled at us.
"Enough!" Hayes growled. The room fell silent. Despite being older, the two alphas knew he held the power.
"How can you treat us like this? We are your allies!" Alpha Prius snarled.
"Your niece attacked my mate with a knife," Zylon growled, his anger palpable. His eyes flickered between icy blue and deep blue.
"You escalated the situation!" Alpha Temmus shouted, having quickly returned to his human form. I momentarily glanced at his naked body and cringed. I wished I hadn't. "You've disrespected me and my family. My son is on the floor, injured, and you have my daughter pinned to the wall like a criminal." I quickly looked at Manon; she had Morgan on the floor, his wolf whimpering as she bit down on his neck. She could kill him in an instant.
"Your son shifted and almost attacked me," Hayes hissed. "Your daughter attempted murder on a Luna. That's treason."
Realization dawned on Temmus's face as he took a step back. He ran a hand through his hair and took a deep breath.
"I think we should talk," he said calmly this time. A man from his pack brought him pants, which he hastily put on.
"Bean," Zylon called gently to Manon. The wolf snapped her fierce gaze at him and whined, letting go of Morgan's wolf before shifting back. After a few seconds, Morgan changed back too.
"You attacked my alpha; I can hold you accountable for that," Manon growled. Morgan ran a hand through his hair, breathing heavily. His eyes found mine, and both Hayes and Zylon growled.
The chaos eventually subsided, and the alphas began a meeting. An hour passed, and I wondered what they were discussing. Would the alliance between the packs still stand?
I wished I hadn't come. Had I not shown up, none of this would have happened, and the alliance wouldn't be at risk. As powerful as the Onyx Moon Pack was, alliances solidified that power. Manon approached me, now dressed in a simple white dress and heels. She hugged me tightly. "I'm sorry about what happened. Your life was put in danger."
"Don't apologize; it's not your fault. I shouldn't have come," I replied.
"No, you're the Luna of this pack. Those ladies were just jealous because my brothers were checking you out," she said with a smile. My cheeks flushed with embarrassment. Indeed, both brothers had been looking at me the whole time at the table.
"Where are you going?" I asked.
"I'm going to look for my mate," she beamed. I didn't realize she had a mate.
"Mate?" I questioned, surprised.
"Yes, I caught his scent. Three nights ago, when I went to a club, he was there. However, I didn't even see him."
"So you've been going there every night?" I asked, and she nodded.
"Rue, come with me," she suggested, looking eager. I bit my lip, contemplating. I wanted to know the outcome of the meeting. "Okay, we can wait to see how the discussion goes, and then we can go to the club. Is that alright?"
"Yes," I answered. Thirty minutes later, the alphas emerged from the conference hall. Luna Cynthia, Manon, and I stood up. Valerie and Silvina glared at me, but I ignored them and walked over to Tate.
"What was discussed?" I asked. He glanced at Hayes, who nodded, and then answered, "The treaty still stands. Valerie and Silvina attacked you, and there will be consequences for that." I sighed in relief. The Alpha twins were speaking with Alpha Prius and Temmus in silence.
Morgan, Valerie, and Silvina joined Tate and me. They smiled and bowed their heads.
"We're sorry for attacking you, Luna Ruby. Our anger got the best of us," they apologized.
"Tame it next time. I have very sharp teeth and long claws. I will do damage if you come at me like that," I said sweetly to them. They paled and smiled, nodding. Their apology felt insincere.
Manon cleared her throat, and I glanced at her with a slight nod.
"I should go now," I told Tate, but Morgan held my hand. I looked up at him.
"What is it?"
"I'm sorry about everything that happened tonight, beautiful. I'm not easily angered, but I was worried about my sister. That's why I shifted," he said sincerely. I smiled at him and nodded. He released my hand, and I walked over to Manon.
"Where are you ladies headed?" Shane asked. Manon and I exchanged a glance, knowing he would try to stop us from going to the club.
"For a stroll,"
"Home,"
We answered him differently at once. He raised his dark eyebrows, looking between us.
"Which one is it?"
"Home,"
"A stroll,"
I exhaled and let Manon speak, "I'm strolling home with Rue."
"Good, I'll come with you," Shane grinned.
"No, we want to have girl talk," I said. The gamma didn't believe us, so we turned on our heels and hurried out before he could stop us. I noticed Hayes and Zylon watching us as we left the house.
We climbed into Manon's pink Mini Cooper, and she drove off.
"Hey, stop!" we heard Shane shout. We laughed. I texted Beth our location in case she wanted to join us.
