I'm Here For You

"If it isn't the boyfriend stealer," she scoffed, her tone laced with contempt. I let out a resigned sigh, turning towards the fridge. I grabbed a glass jar of fresh orange juice and retrieved a glass from the cabinet. "You're such a b***h since you returned, do you realize that?" she continued, her voice dripping with disdain. I poured the juice into my glass and took a slow, deliberate sip, choosing my words carefully. "No, I didn't know that, Begonia," Fury flashed in her eyes. "You are not taking Hayes from me. I swear it," she yelled, rising abruptly from her seat, a fierce glare aimed at me. I met her gaze, unwavering. "Don't be insecure, honey. He's all yours. Honestly, I don't even like him; he's not my type." Her next words were sharp and tinged with desperation. "Hayes and I have been together for five years. I will kill anyone who dares to come between us. I promise you," The air filled with tension as we glared at each other. " For a man? You're such a f*****g weird b***h, Begonia," " Rue!" Cindy and my brother exclaimed as they entered the kitchen, followed closely by the alpha twins. Begonia's expression morphed to one of hurt, and tears glimmered in my eyes. Such a pretentious b***h. Cindy turned her glare in my direction. Zylon stood beside me, his presence both comforting and unsettling. I wanted to escape from him, but my body felt paralyzed. "Why would you talk to her like that, Rue?" Tate asked, shaking his head in disapproval. "Rue has never liked me. Everyone knows that," Begonia interjected, her voice trembling, emphasizing my supposed cruelty. I rolled my eyes, my patience wearing thin. "Tate, she's being dramatic. She threatened me, saying I should stay away from her man, Hayes, or else she'd kill me," I retorted, a mocking tone slipping into my voice. "I would never!" she exclaimed, tears now streaming down her cheeks as if she were auditioning for a role in a soap opera. "It's hard for you to see me and Hayes in a passionate relationship, but that doesn't give you the right to insult me like you do." My eyes drifted to Hayes, who stood nearby, exasperated. He rolled his eyes skyward and made his way to the cabinet, pouring himself a tall glass of orange juice and downing it in one swift motion. "Don’t be overdramatic, Begonia. You and I are not in a relationship," he said, his voice filled with annoyance. I raised an eyebrow, unable to suppress a secret smirk that tugged at my lips—one that only Begonia noticed. With my lunch forgotten, I decided I needed to take a stroll. Outside, the cool air felt great against my skin. Zylon approached me. I looked up, momentarily lost in his beauty. The wind tousled his golden hair, and an overwhelming urge to run my fingers through it coursed through me. "Where are you going?" his deep voice broke the silence. "A walk," I replied tersely, trying to avoid prolonging the conversation. "Can I walk with you?" he inquired, a hint of hope lacing his words. I hesitated. Walk with me? "Whatever, just don't speak to me," I murmured. Zylon obeyed, falling into a companionable silence. As we walked, I found comfort in the tranquility he offered, like a soothing blanket enveloping me. After some time, we reached the bustling market of the pack. Vivid colors and lively conversations surrounded us, with shops displaying exquisite jewelry, fashionable clothing, and various wares. The sounds of laughter and music lifted my spirits; I had missed this so much. The riverside was just ahead, flanked by art centers. Heads turned in our direction, curious eyes trailing the tall, striking figure at my side. Zylon moved gracefully, hands tucked casually into the pockets of his sleek coat. Just as I turned to the main road that leads me home, Zylon suddenly grasped my wrist, his touch startling yet gentle. When he saw my surprise, he quickly released my hand, pointing towards the nearest restaurant. My stomach gurgled; it had been a while since I had eaten. I flushed with embarrassment as I realized I hadn’t brought my wallet. "Um, I don’t have any money," I admitted, heat rising to my cheeks. Without a second thought, he took my hand, and sparks shot through me. He led me into a cozy restaurant. An eager waitress rushed towards us, her mouth agape when she recognized Zylon. I felt an unfamiliar urge to assert my claim, to hold his hand to signal to her that he was mine. Ria, my inner wolf, growled possessively in my mind: 'Mine, mine.' "Welcome, sir—I mean, Alpha," she stammered, bowing low before him. She didn't acknowledge my presence. She seated us at a small table for two and brought only one menu. She hustled back to get another menu. "My apologies for not realizing you had company, Alpha," she said, her gaze fixated on him. Zylon, however, appeared indifferent, ordering the best bottle of wine before turning to me. I placed my order, and she left, a lovesick smile pasted on her face that made me cringe. “She likes you,” I muttered, unable to conceal a twinge of bitterness. Zylon’s gaze met mine, surprise flickering in his eyes at the sound of my voice. “You can speak if you want,” I added. “How are you?” he asked softly, an earnest look on his face. “I’m fine,” I replied. “How do you feel about everything? You know, being the chosen warrior and discovering your talent,” he ventured, a genuine curiosity shining through. He was the first person to ask me about my feelings on this matter. I swallowed hard, pushing down a wave of emotions that threatened to surface. “I think I’m alright,” I said, my voice barely above a whisper, hoping to keep my turmoil hidden. " I'm here for you, Ruby Rue. You can even hit me if you want, or shout at me. I won't be mad," " Your words, not mine," I mumbled. He smiled at me—a small, almost hesitant smile, yet it sent butterflies fluttering wildly in my stomach. I'm here for you. Those words continued to ring in my head.
