CHAPTER 18.

NOAH'S POV. More days passed. Ava and I were getting along fine. I still don't talk much to her, but it was obvious that I have accepted her as someone important in my life. She makes me happy even though I haven't directly admitted it to her yet. She took me out some days, and we spent time with the cowboys around the ranch. They were very nice people, so it was a nice feeling to be around them. Together, Ava and I opened up the curtains in the house, and we painted the walls a brighter color. Now the whole place was radiating with light and beauty. It was beautiful. "Put in mind that tomorrow will be better than today. Don't depress yourself by constantly thinking about your death. Everyone of us would surely die some day, but for now, there are too many things to enjoy in life." I smiled in remembrance of Ava's words. She had said those words to me when we opened the curtains. She has really brought a lot of light into my life. Much more than I ever expected. As I finished up a painting I was working on for some time now, I noticed the canvas behind that was covered with a white linen. Ava had almost opened it the other time, and I was sure she would have exposed what was hidden there for years. I stood up and approached the canvas, and I gently pulled the covering off it to reveal the young and beautiful portrait of Ava herself when she was eight years old. She may not remember it now, but we met eighteen years ago when we were kids, and she saved my life. I was the reason why she got that scar on her wrist, but she seem to have forgotten all about me. We were both kidn*pped from the park that day, and due to my condition, I was hyperventilating and losing conciousness after she was stabbed. Ava had tried to help me escape, but when out abductors caught us, they punished Ava alone for it because they needed me more than they needed her, but eventually, Ava struggled to keep me safe, but I was unconscious when we were rescued, and that was how we separated. Words can not describe how happy I am to have met her again. I noticed the scar when she grabbed my hand and pushed me to escape from my body guards. Then and there, I was instantly convinced it really was her. My first love. I caress the painting lovingly, and as if on cue, I heard the sound of water splashing outside. When I glanced out the window of the studio, I found the object of my thoughts; my wife Ava. I use to despise that word with a passion, but now it actually sounds nice to my ears. I watched my wife with a new fondness. Her brown hair was in a high pony tail, and she had her patterned blue shirt knotted just below her chest showing off her bare and toned stomach. I couldn't help my blush at the sight of it. She was in short jeans shorts with her legs visible, and I had a hard time breathing just staring at her smooth creamy legs. She was holding a water hose and watering the carpet grass by the front pouch. The sight of her made me so happy, and I was glad that I agreed with her to open the windows of my paint studio as well. I would have missed a beautiful sight like this. I was suddenly overcame with this eagerness to be close to her, and so I took off my paint apron and went outside the house to the varander to look at my wife. She was standing there with her back to me still holding the water hose, but this time she was on a call. I would have alerted her of my presence, but I got curious at her conversation on the phone, so I stayed quiet and listened. "I'm really sorry for snapping at you the other day. I was just sort of frustrated." I raised a brow at her extremely gentle and loving tone. Who could she be talking to? "Yeah yeah, I know, and I'm working on it. You don't have to worry." I frowned in confusion. Working on what? "We are getting along fine. It's just..." She sighed heavily. "Its just that, he's an even better person than I expected. Noah is very nice." I smiled to myself. So she thinks I'm nice. "Okay, let's talk later if you're busy." She paused. "I love you too." I could hear the smile and sincerity in her voice, and it made me anxious. Who could it be? Could it be a boyfriend or a lover she had before being pressured into marrying me? The thought soured up my mood, but it lifted again when I remembered her Dad. She could have been talking to her Dad. "Was that your Dad?" I asked suddenly, and she jumped in shock. She faced me with wide eyes, "dude, why do you always love scaring me so much?" I rolled my eyes, "the question is, why do you get so scared easily? All I did was ask a question." She put her phone into her back pocket, and glared at me. "At least make your presence known. That's all I ask." I brushed off her words. "Anyway, was that your dad?" I asked again as I leaned against the varander railings. Her eyes shifted a bit at my question, but I didn't pay any attention to it. "Um, y- yeah, that was my dad. Why do you ask?" My heart instantly relaxed at her answer, but I tried not to show it. "I was just curious, that's all." "You haven't apologized for scaring me!" She pointed the water hose at me as if holding a gun. "Its not really my fault that you got scared," I replied blankly, even though I was enjoying her playful tone. "Apologize or I'll really pull the trigger," she warned with a mock serious tone. "You won't dare!" She raised a brow at me, and before I knew it, water from the hose was sprinkling all over me and Ava was laughing. I jumped back, wiping my face with my hands, "you are fearless." She laughed harder, "I am not going to live forever, so why should I be afriad of anything?" "I'm not letting this go!" I told her with a glare. Her eyes widened as she stopped laughing, "what do you mean?" Without a reply, I left the varander and hurried towards her to take the water hose from her so I could revenge. I chased after her for a while, and she ran around laughing and still spraying the damn water on me. By the time I caught her, I was already very wet from her assault. My palm was on her bare waist, and our bodies were pressed against each other. We were staring into each other's eyes just like that day at the alleyway. I was lost in her green forest, drowning in their brightness, and her smile made me lose focus completely. I couldn't even remember my reasons for chasing after her in the first place. "You know, you're a lot more handsome when you smile." It was then I realized that I have been smiling the whole time. Ava seem to have completely gotten me hooked. Before I could deny it, we heard a voice call. "Ava?" We both glance side ways to find an elderly man in a dark grey business suit and glasses. He was staring at us in utter confusion. Ava's eyes widened and she pulled away from me. "Dad?!" She exclaimed in surprise. I was also lost. Is this her Dad? The man she just spoke to on the phone? How come he is here all of a sudden?
