CHAPTER 13.

AVA'S POV. That evening, we returned home in a taxi, and Noah went straight to his room, ignoring the guards who stood outside the house looking extremely relieved to see him safe. I shot them a sheepish smile, mumbling an apology as I hurried into the house. Noah had already retreated to his own side of the house because he was nowhere in sight in the living room. I sighed heavily, feeling a bit down as I wondered if things were going to go back to how they used to be. Maybe Noah is going to go back to being a ghost, and it would be like this day never happened. The thought brought my mood down, and I found myself retreating into my room not as happy as I was earlier. Noah didn't even say goodnight to me. So much for progress. The next morning, I made breakfast as usual, consisting of scrambled eggs, toast and coffee. I was unsure if Noah would come down for breakfast, but I made his share anyway as usual and set the table. I waited hopefully for a few minutes, praying that he would at least join me for breakfast, but then I remembered he once told me that my food looked like horse dish, and I concluded that he wouldn't be coming down for breakfast. I gave up and dug into my meal. I should have realized that it wouldn't be that easy to win him over. Out of the blue, I felt a figure settle across me, and I lifted my head to find the handsome face of none other than my husband, Noah. His hair was a bit wet, like he had just come out of the shower, and he was in a loose shirt. He avoided looking at me as he dug into the food I laid out for him without care. I recovered from my shock, and a wide smile grazed my lips at his presence. My heart instantly felt lighter. "Good morning," I greeted cheerfully. "Hmm," was his only reply, but I wasn't fazed by his blank tone. It was enough that he came down for breakfast. "You know, I honestly thought you wouldn't come. I'm glad you did though. This means we are getting along, right? We can even be friends." "We are not friends! "Don't get ahead of yourself!" He spoke coldly, and I pouted, slightly hurt by it. "Okay fine." I sighed but was quick to brush the pain away. "So, how do you find my cooking? I'm guessing it doesn't taste like a horse dish." "It doesn't," another blank reply. "But you assumed it did." His jaw clenched, "I'd never tasted it at that time, so it was okay for me to assume. You shouldn't take my words to heart." I grinned at him, "Are you apologizing?" "It's not an apology!" he snapped. "I'll take it as one." "Whatever!" Silence fell as we went on with breakfast. Neither of us said anything more, but my mind was at peace and I felt comfortable. Not once did Noah look at me, but my eyes were on him throughout breakfast. I was even smiling at him, and even I did not realize it. There was something about him that just made me happy. Maybe it's the fact that he's slowly opening up to me. Whatever it is, I like it a lot. After breakfast, Noah left again without a single word, and I cleaned up the table, feeling extremely happy that he ate everything on his plate. After breakfast, I cleaned up the house just as Noah instructed me to, but he remained hidden in his room and I didn't want to intrude, in case he took it as an invasion of privacy. After my chores, I settled in front of the television. It was the only way I could think of to ease my boredom. I really hated being alone. My mind flashed to James and all the happy times we spent together, and I found myself missing him terribly. I wonder what he's up to. "Hey!" a cold voice called, and I glanced up to find Noah standing a few feet away from me and glaring coldly at me. My mood instantly brightened. I was used to his cold expression because I knew he wasn't really as cold as he was portraying. "Oh, what's up Noah?" His jaw clenched at my greeting, and I wondered if his teeth wouldn't hurt from clenching his jaw so much. "All the groceries I wanted to get yesterday, I didn't get them because of you!" I frowned, unsure of how to reply to that. "Um, I'm sorry, I guess. "But you did have fun at the park, didn't you?" "What do I care about fun when I could not get the things I needed? It's all your fault!" I rolled my eyes at his aggressive tone. "Why are you being harsh? It's a simple case. You can go get them today. I believe you aren't too busy to go get them yourself." His jaw tightened. "It's all your fault, so why should I be the one to go get them?!" "Okay, I'll get them for you, just give me a list..." "I don't want you to get them for me!" he snapped. I sighed, feeling slightly frustrated, "What do you want from me then?!" For a second, we stood in silence, and then he spoke. "You are so dense! "Didn't you say you wanted to get something too?" At that, I realized what he was trying to say. I couldn't hide my smile. "Do you want me to come with you?" His jaw clenched, and he drawled out, "I never said that!" "Okay, can I please go with you? You are right after all. I also need to get the things I could not get yesterday." He turned away and spoke with his back to me. "I'll let you come with me since you begged, but have it in mind that it doesn't make us friends!" I chuckled to myself as he left. Noah Edwards is so cute!
