CHAPTER 11.

AVA'S POV. Noah literally pushed me off him after the ferris wheel came to a halt and he quickly exited the place. I stared after his retreating figure in shock. "You know, telling me to get up nicely would have been a lot better." I called out, but he kept going like he couldn't even hear me. I scrunched up my face in annoyance and stood up. "What a prick!" I stepped out of the ferris wheel and quickly followed after him. He sure likes to walk fast. "You should have told me you were scared of heights." He ignored me and quickened his pace. I did the same still talking. "Is your fear that serious though? I can't believe you kept me on your lap until the ride was over, and I thought you..." He stopped suddenly, and I did too. His glare was hot on me. "Never ever, mention what happened in that ferris wheel, ever again!" His tune was low and threatening, as if we were talking about something serious. I could see it in his eyes though, he just doesn't want to be reminded of it. Maybe he's embarrassed. I grinned at him and gave him a salute, "Roger that." His brow twitched in annoyance, but I was not phased by it and I kept grinning at him. "So what are we doing next? We rode the ferris wheel already. Should we ride on the..." "We are not riding on anymore death traps!" He blurted in a snap, and we both halted. I stared at him shocked at his sudden outburst, and he was also glaring at me in anger. "Okay fine! We won't ride on anymore death traps as you call it." I looked around not sure of what we should do next. Then my eyes caught sight of the icecream cart. I grinned to myself and asked, "what do you think about some icecream? We can sit on one of the park benches." He looked away in annoyance without replying and continued walking. I sighed tiredly at his attitude. Does he seriously have to be so moody? I watched him as he walked, and I was surprised when he stopped at a park bench and took a seat. I frowned in confusion, but then I realized what he was doing and my eyes widened in realization. A smile lit up my face, and I hurried towards him. I sure look like a desperate puppy following him around like this. "So icecream it is?" I said in a half question, and he didn't reply. He just kept staring at the floor. I went on anyway, "what flavor do you like?" He stared at me. "Vanilla?" He just kept staring at me coldly. "Strawberry?" No answer. "Chocolate?" His cold eyes brighten up a little, and I grinned to myself. "Chocolate it is." He seems surprised that I figured it out, but his expression hardened again and he looked away. Damn! This dude is seriously too easy to read. "Wait right here. I'll go get it." "Whatever," he said and I ignored it and hurried to the direction of the icecream cart. For some reason, I was excited about all these. Something was obviously changing in the air between Noah and I. He is still harsh and moody, but I've realized that there is a really shy guy behind that stone cold expression. He's definitely nothing like he making me ought to believe. I guess his condition really locked up the person he truly is. But no worries, I will make sure I release the cute dude behind that scowl. I took the ice cream, thanking the young teenager inside the cart and returned to Noah only to find the bench empty. I looked around in confusion. Where did he go all of a sudden? "Noah?" I called, my eyes searching around the place. "No_" I paused when I caught sight of him in front of a toy store with two little girls on either side of him. One was a blond and the other a brunette. Noah was holding a dart, aiming it at the balloons hanging on the wall in the toy store, and the little girl's seem to be boozing him on. "Huh?" I wondered aloud not sure if I understand what was going on there. Slowly, I approached them with my icecreams still in my hands. As I got closer, I heard the blond little girl saying. "Seriously mister, you have to get it right this time. You haven't even popped a single balloon yet!" "I thought you said you're good at it!" The brunette snapped looking unimpressed. "Okay can you guys keep quiet and let me do this?! I am sure I will get it this time." I raised a surprised brow at the desperation in Noah's voice. He didn't seem like the Noah I was used to. "You said that the first ten times you began, and you haven't popped a single balloon yet." They raged at him, and I found the whole thing amusing, although I still had no idea what was going on. "Calm down guys. I'll get it this time." He assured in a promising tone, and we all waited with batted breaths as he aimed his dart towards the balloon and fired. Unfortunately, the dart did not pop any balloons. "Damn it!" He blurted in frustration, flinging his arms in the air. The little girl's sighed like disappointed parents. "I knew he couldn't do it," the blond said. "You promised to win us both a doll if we stopped fighting over that one doll. How would you pay for the one you made us throw into the river?" The brunette added. "I_ I can play again," Noah stuttered not sounding like himself at all, and I snickered as he pulled out his wallet. "Don't waste your money. It's no use!" The blond said crossing her arms while glaring at Noah. "It's obvious that you are no good at it. Maybe that's why you are single and alone in the park. You won't be able to win your girlfriend a teddy." "I'm not single." "Then where is your girlfriend?" I decided to make my presence known. "His wife actually, is right here." They all turned to stare at me and I smiled and walked closer to them. "I am sorry about my husband girls. He's usually very good at winning me teddies, but right now he's not feeling very well, and that's why he can't do it right." I winked at Noah who was staring at me stupefied. The girls soften up a little, but they still looked mad. "You should have told us that you're not well. You made us throw away our doll." "That's because you girls were fighting over it. Fighting is bad, it's better to be friends." At his words, it was my turn to stare at him stupefied. I never expected those words from Noah Edwards. I stared down at the icecream in my hands, and then at the girls. "Here have this as compensation for your doll." Their eyes sparkled with excitement, "icecream!" They exclaimed and ran towards me, and I handed it to them with a laugh. "Thank you," they chorused, "and thank you too mister, even though you couldn't get us the doll. Get well soon okay?" With that they ran off. We watched them go in silence, then I asked the pressing question. "So, how did you get involved with them?" His blue eyes turned steely. He was back to being Noah the prick. "Don't ask!" He snapped and stomped off. I shook my head still smiling gently. Not only is he cute, it turns out that he's also a sweet person. I felt all the more sorry for Noah as I realized he would have made a great father. If only he had more longer years to live.
