Serene’s POV
Wiping the lingering traces of tears from my face. I pulled away from Lee. I could not believe I had fallen apart like that with him. I really did feel a sense of ease in his presence, a sense of trust. I appreciated him being there for me, and appreciated even more that he did not ask any questions, he just let me cry.
I did not cry like that often, the last time was when my mother had died and even my tears then had been in private.
I could not help but wish it had been the captain who had comforted me, but I knew where he currently was.
Shaking my head, I tried not to think about what he was doing.
Lee stood and helped me to my feet.
“I believe we have some information now don't we? This is magic meddling with the lives of these unknowing humans.” He pondered out loud.
“It would appear so. I have seen this magic portal twice before. Once from land much like this, the other appeared to me beneath the ocean. I feel it is safe to assume this is what is causing the disappearance of both humans and merfolk. But why?” I questioned.
Lee scrubbed a hand across his beard.
“Yes, the mystery deepens. I can't help but believe your mother also knew something about what was going on.”
“I would have to agree with you Lee.”
“Alright,” He huffed out a breath. “I think we better find the captain and let him know what we have seen.” He gave me an apologetic smile.
I smiled back at him,
“Yes, but maybe we should wait until he is less...occupied.” I responded through gritted teeth.
Sighing, Lee nodded.
“Let’s go find something to eat then shall we?” He asked, holding the crook of his elbow out for me to take. “Your majesty.” He winked.
Rolling my eyes, I linked my arm in his as we started to walk back down the beach towards the taverns and restaurants.
After a much needed bowl of stew and crusty bread, I was feeling much better.
I had left Lee as he went to go check in with the rest of the crew, assuring him I was fine to wander back to the ship alone. I found my thoughts quickly drifting back to the captain and his shocked face at our soulmates mark.Lifting my hand I could not help but run my hand across my chest where it glowed dimly beneath my shirt. My chest still throbbed with discomfort, maybe this was normal when a bond had not been accepted.
I was not angry with Connor, I completely understood the situation we were in. How complicated this all was. I only wish I had not let my emotions get the better of me. We both need to find ways to deal with this no matter how different our approaches may be.
Seeing the woman disappear really snapped me out of my selfish state,I must save these people and I knew deep down that I needed the captain to help me.
We need to stay on task and not get distracted.
Making my way towards The Black Soul, I wandered barefoot along the docks. Looking down at the water lapping at the sides of the boardwalk, I could not control my need to dip my toes in. If I just dipped my toes in a little, my tail would not form.
I sat down just along from the ship and let my legs hang over the side of the dock, my toes only just reaching the water. I sighed as the water finally coressed my skin.
I leaned back on my arms outstretched behind me, tilting my head back and closing my eyes.
My chest started to tingle with heat and the docks creaked, startling me. My eyes flew open to see Connor pulling off his boots to sit next to me. He, too, dangled his feet into the water.
His eyes did not turn towards me. His head hung, his gaze on the lapping water.
My core tightened uncontrollably and quivered at his closeness. So close yet so far.
The soulmate bond was really going to make working together a challenge. I quickly looked back at the water and squeezed my thighs together to try and ease the throbbing ache I was feeling between my legs.
I was determined to not let him see the effect he had on me.
We sat in awkward silence for what felt like forever. I was getting more and more sexually frustrated. I could not sit there a moment longer.
I pulled my legs up to stand and head up to the ship, when a hand landed on mine. The fire of his touch making my body shiver. As though receiving an electric shock, the captain quickly pulled his hand away.
“Serene, wait.” I barely heard Connor whisper.
I turned to face him as he still sat with his legs still hanging off the edge. Still not meeting my gaze.
“Fuck.” he continued as he ran his hands through his hair, pulling it slightly before he let it go again.
“I'm sorry if I hurt ya.” I could hardly make out his mumble.
“Sorry Captain? I am not sure I heard you right.” I must have misheard him, surely he was not apologising.
He groaned,
“I’m sorry if I hurt ya. Back at the tavern. I don't say sorry, so I’m not sayn it again ok!” He almost shouted.
“Why on earth would you apologise to me for just doing what you want to do? I appreciate your apology, but regardless of my feelings, you choose what you did and how you reacted. Stand by what makes you happy with no apology.”
I was feeling frustrated. I was not in the mood to have an apology growled at me by a moody pirate.
“I didnt f**k her.” he whispered. “I wanted to, but I couldn't. I can only think of ya and no one else. I felt sick thinking about touchin that woman.”
My eyes widened at his confession.
“Why did you go up stairs with her?” I found myself asking.
“I knew she would have information on the missin women. I was playn along to get her to talk, then I left.”
I let out a breath I did not know I was holding and I felt my body relax.
“Thank you for telling me.” I guess it was approprate for me to disclose my feelings also. ”I did not expect to be affected by seeing you with another woman. I suppose the soul mate bond is stronger than we thought.”
“I hated seeing ya hurt face Serene, even more when I knew I was the one to blame. I never want to hurt ya.” He finally turned to face me, his sparkling, green eyes penetrating my skin. I felt my n*****s harden and his eyes noticed, almost immediately dropping to my chest.
I wrapped my arms around my chest, I could not cope with feeling this vulnerable with the pirate captain, I wanted nothing more than to jump on him and grind my wet, throbbing core on him.
The thought of him buried deep within me moaning my name had me almost drooling.
I Shook my head to clear my fantasies,
“Thank you captain, I would not wish to cause you pain or discomfort either.” I took a breath, turned and started walking towards the ship. I looked back over my shoulder at the captain.
“It would appear we both have information to share in regards to our quest. Shall we head up?”
He simply nodded and followed me towards his ship.
My cheeks burning, and my knees trembling. I can only hope he would not notice the effect he has on me.
