The Letter

Chapter 2 . . . Lina After a while, I was able to pinpoint where my next class was. Everyone's attention turned to me when I stood in front of the door. Some were already glancing at me, while some seemed somewhat excited to see me. “Phew.” I said, slouching on the nearest empty chair. A shadow hovered for a second. I glanced up and saw a girl with long layered jet black hair and a white headband leaning in slightly, her head tilted like she was trying to get a good look at me. Her lips a bruised rose shade, eyes gray and sharp, and her sheen black hair with bangs casting a faint shadow over her unreadable eyes. “God has favourites,” I mumbled under my breath. I straightened up in my seat, turning slightly to her. “And you are?” I asked, raising an eyebrow. “It seems you're new here,” She smiled. “I'm Brienna. Brienna Noir. Nice to meet you.” She said leaning on the table in front of me. “Nice to meet you too. I'm Lina Haven.” I replied. “Ouu pretty name. Well you see Lina, you're actually on my seat.” Brienna said, drumming her hands on the table. I blinked up at her, all tall and poised. She didn't look annoyed, just slightly amused. “Oh- I'm sorry,” I said quickly, pushing the chairs back. “No one told me sears were assigned or something.” She gave a small smile, and waited patiently as I gathered my things. I slid into the empty seat behind her, with my cheeks burning. Just as I settled down, more students started filling the classroom –and right on cue, the homeroom teacher walked in. Great, now I was going to be tagged as a weirdo on my first day. Barely two minutes in and I caught their quiet rustle of gossip a row behind me. “Is that her?” “Class A? Seriously?” I didn't even look back. They could never say it to my face anyways. But I was confused with the phrase “Class A”. Was there something about this class? “Oh my, I can spot some new faces,” Those words cut through my thoughts. “Would you mind introducing yourself? The homeroom teacher said with her eyes fixated on me. Gosh, was I the only transfer student here? I stood up reluctantly and introduced myself. “I'm Lina Haven.” I said sharply. “Just that?” She replied. What next? my blood type and mother's maiden name? I wonder if she was getting paid enough for all this. “Yes.” I said, keeping my voice steady. “Very well.” She replied, a fake smile spread across her face. “I'm Ms. Nilly, and I'll be your homeroom teacher for the rest of the semester. Feel free to meet me if you have an issue.” She said. ******** After a long session, the class came to an end and we were done for the day. I got up and left with my bag unzipped immediately after Ms. Nilly exited the class. I left my belongings unarranged early so I could catch up with class. I took the shortcut from the quiet hallway and it led me to my dorm’s wing -then paused. Someone was walking from the opposite wing. Shirtless. And very much unbothered about it. His steps were slow, casual. Like he owned the entire dorm. Well technically he did. Alphas had the highest authority here. I couldn't help but stare at him. Along his toned body and golden skin, muscle bulged out of every angle and curve. His chest down to his lower stomach was tightened giving his body a perfect ratio. He got closer and that's when I realized it was one of the four Alphas from earlier. I exhaled deeply and walked as fast as possible. “You're the girl from earlier right?” He said, stopping me. I didn't respond. Instead I kept on walking. “The name's Kaiza” He smirked, before walking away. So that was his name huh. What a hassle. I got closer to my room door and I heard a little giggle from inside. Before leaving for class, there was no one's belongings there. Could she also be a transfer student? The door gently creaked open as I got in. She was sitting on a white chair with her attention fixated on the phone. She finally looked up when the door closed behind me. “Hello there,” She said sweetly. “I'm Janna, your new roommate. Nice to meet you.” I could already tell she was a cool person. Unlike Brienna's dark look, she had a soft kind of beauty. She had flawless pale skin, wide glassy eyes that didn't blink enough. Her features were so symmetrical it felt unreal. She was the type of pretty that made one uneasy. “I'm Lina, nice to meet you.” I said sharply. “Well we are gonna be stuck here for a year or so, hopefully we get along well.” She added in a polite smile “Yeah same.” I smiled back politely. Without saying much else, I quietly walked off to my bed and sat on the edge. The box I dropped earlier was still sitting by the foot of it, untouched. I dragged it closer, flipping the lid open. Slowly I began pulling out the important stuff and placing them neatly on the nearby shelf. Then something caught my eyes. There was an envelope- plain, white and just barely sticking out from under my pillow. I blinked. That definitely wasn't there before. “Janna?” I turned to her slowly. “Did you put this here?” She glanced up from her drawer, confused. “Huh? No, I didn't. Why?” I held it up slightly. “There's a letter under my pillow.” She walked over, frowning a little. “That's weird. Are you sure it wasn't already there?” I didn't answer. My hands brushed over the flap of the envelope, but I didn't open it. Something about it made my chest tighten. No name, no marking. I stared at it a little longer, with multiple questions racing through my mind. Who left this? And more importantly… Why?
