Easy White Chocolate

Chapter 7 . . . Darien We got back to our room after parting ways with Lina and Janna in the hallway. I walked to the table where there was a jug filled with water and drank a glass of water before heading to the couch. I sank onto it, exhaling deeply as I covered my face with my palm. I pulled out my phone from my pocket and continued with the game I was playing earlier on. I wasn't even half way to the level when Kai sat beside me and slung an arm over the back of my shoulders. “Easy white chocolate, I'm tryna clear this level before time runs out.” I said shifting slightly, just enough to shrug Kaiza’s arm off. “My battery is flat right now, so I've got nothing to do.” He said, slouching on the chair. I didn't respond to him. “So tell me, you were last seen with Lina before passing out. Mind sharing what you both were talking about?” He said grinning.” “If you're that bored, come help me out and take out the trash or vacuum the floor.” Blake cut in. I paused my game and turned to Blake's direction. He was cleaning the cabinets with the vacuum cleaner beside him. “It was nothing serious. I only asked her how and why she was there that day.” Kaiza’s brows twitched slightly. “And?” “Apparently, she was stalking that girl always putting on a white headband and her friends.” “That should be Brienna.” I nodded. “She also doesn't have a traceable wolf, probably suppressed or something.” “Great, now we are bonded to a girl with a suppressed wolf. Tch.” Azrael's voice drifted from the bed where he was flipping his textbook. Kaiza gave a sheepish laugh. “She's pretty though.” “Everyone is pretty in your eyes.” Blake chimed in. “Yeah, but she's different.” Kaiza sat forward slightly, with his fingers tapping against his knees. That made Azrael glance up briefly, but didn't say anything. I reached for my airpods on the counter and played some music before getting up from the couch and taking the vacuum cleaner beside Blake. We were done tidying up after an hour or so. “Good jobs guys.” Kaiza yelled. “Lazy ass. We would have been done earlier if you helped out.” Blake said, heading towards the bathroom. Kaiza shrugged and smirked slowly. I came out of the bathroom after a while with a towel around my waist, and water dripping from my body and hair. I stood at my closet and picked a grey sweatpants and black top. I carried the manga volume I was reading earlier in the day and stepped out. I walked down the hall, heading toward that spot near the window. It was quiet—only a few people passing by, most already in their rooms. This time of the day was better. Less noise and the soft breeze. I sat on the ledge, rested my back against the wall, and pulled out my manga. My bag dropped to the floor with a soft thud. I opened to the page I left off on. I was half way in when my eyes wandered to my wrist where Lina had held before blacking out. I tilted my head and brushed it with my thumb reflexively, as if I was trying to wipe away the memories that kept replaying in my head. On a normal day, I wouldn't have panicked if it had been anyone else in her place. I probably wouldn't have gave it a second thought, but I remembered calling Blake without hesitation so we could help her to the infirmary. Even when we got to the infirmary, that strange pull didn't go away. I caught myself staring at her fingers, pale, still and slightly curved. l had the sudden urge to hold her hands and stay in that position till she regained consciousness but I held back. I knew Azrael was busy. He was studying for his mock up but I still called him anyway. At first, he was reluctant then I found myself pleading for him to. A sharp noise cut through my thoughts. I turned towards it and I saw something. The vending machine a few steps away had stopped mid-vend. A soda was stuck at the edge, just hanging there. Some guy—probably a junior, was staring at it like it was going to fix itself. I turned a page. “Kick it,” I muttered, just loud enough for myself. He didn’t hear, or maybe he did and ignored it. I was about to turn another page when I felt it…that annoying weight of someone watching me. I didn’t look up right away.I sighed and turned another page, pretending to be deeply invested in the panel, but my eyes were only skimming the words. That feeling still didn’t go away. So I shifted slightly and angled my body a bit, using the reflective glass of the window to my right. And there she was. Third year, straight bangs and glasses. She had on her earphones always dangling even when they’re not plugged into anything. I think her name’s Rae or Rain or something like that. Her friends always giggle too loud whenever I walk past. She stood about five lockers away, fake-scrolling through her phone like she hadn’t just been caught committing a level three creep-watch. I held back a smirk and returned to my manga. Thirty seconds later, I flipped the page again, more for show than interest now. She still didn’t leave. I sighed internally. I turned another page before casually glancing in her direction. This time, I met her eye square on. She blinked like she didn’t expect me to notice. Then she stepped out, smiling like she just happened to be walking by. “I didn’t know you liked manga,” she said, flipping her hair. I stared. “Ohh? I basically read it everywhere.” She laughed like that was funny, like I was joking. “Do you need something?” I asked flatly. “No,” she said way too quickly, “I was just… getting a drink.” The vending machine wasn’t even on her side of the hall. “Right,” I muttered, turning back to my book. “Enjoy your drink.” She lingered for a second, probably hoping I’d say more, but I didn't.
