The violet blended perfectly with the blue, creating an ombre mix of colours dancing around the canvas. I dipped the brush in the orange paint and slid it across the scarlet until it resembled a cross in the sunset. The canvas showed what I was seeing outside the window on the right side wall of my cabin.
I always imagined sunsets as one of the gifts that life has to offer, something everyone can enjoy wherever they are in the world, if you have sinned or not, if you have committed grave faults or not, you always have an equal chance of experiencing the sight of a sunset.
The ship rocked back and forth as the waves hit. There may have been a beautiful sunset outside, although that didn't mean there couldn't be a storm this fine night. I'm pretty sure there will be.
My second in command came rushing in the cabin at full speed:
“Captain! The waves are hitting us hard! I don't believe, unfortunately, we will last the night.”
“Set full sail! We'll try avoiding the triangle at all costs, do whatever you have to!”
We rushed out of the cabin. It was complete chaos on the ship. Most of the water wasn't in the ocean anymore, it was on the boat. Both of the sails were out and the wind crashed against them with full force. Most of the crew were rushing around the ship, trying to get the situation under control.
“Lea! We need you to steer the ship out of the triangle!" Said John, my very trusted quartermaster.
“Who is sailing the ship?! Edward, didn't I specifically say stay clear of the triangle?”
“Yes, yes you did ma'am.”
“So why aren't we staying clear of the triangle?!”
“I don't know ma'am.”
I rolled my eyes in disbelief. Isn't anyone on this ship capable of following orders? We hurried up to the bridge of the ship and observed who was sailing the ship: Alexander.
“Alexander! What do you believe you are doing?”
“Lea! There was nobody sailing the ship! Now is not the time to get enraged at me, when we're in the middle of the storm!”
“You do not have the authority to talk to me like that, nor the authority to sail my ship!" I shouted angrily.
“Lea. You can not be serious!”
“Do not call me Lea! It's captain to you.”
I raised my head and stared deeply into his eyes. He looked at me for about 20 seconds before storming off angrily.
“Captain, are you okay?”
“I'm perfectly fine Edward. Go help the others. Now!”
He ran off in a daze whilst I made my way up to the helm and started to steer.
People were falling over because the ship rocked back and forth so violently.
The lightning lit up the sky and the thunder screamed, the waves were eating up the people and everybody was afraid. The kind of fear that runs a shiver all the way down your spine, the petrifying kind of fear. These people, my crew, who all had families, they were afraid. Afraid for their lives. One of the waves hit the boat and slowly disappeared onto the floor of my ship, taking one of the sails with it.
“Damn it! Cristopher! Where are you?"I called out to my sailing master at the top of my lungs.
“Lea! Look out!”
It all happened slowly.
Alexander came running towards me faster than a bolt of lightning. He pushed me away from the helm, causing me to fall, and then he pulled me to the border of the ship. The sail came crashing down, then I felt an intense pain and my world was enveloped by darkness.
