Chapter 25

Kanto’s POV

“Remind me what’s on each floor again.” Skyler face was scrunched up as she was trying to focus. Skyler and I spent the last few hours walking around the pack house and finally made our way to the dining room. Understandably Skyler had a lot of things to memorize due to the size of the pack house.

“The first floor are amenities like the game room, library and dining room as well as some of the rooms for the warriors that are unmated.” I started to re-explain the layout. “The second floor is where the higher ranking warriors live, guest rooms and the ranked pack members’ offices are.”

“Yea your office was on that floor and so was Luna Maribelle’s office.” Skyler drew in the air with her hands where the offices were as if she were taking notes.

“Someday it’ll be your office, but yes they are both on that floor. So are the Beta and Gamma offices but they don’t get used nearly as much.”

“Why’s that?” Skyler paused from her mental drawing and a curious look crossed her face.

Damn our mate is so cute when she makes faces like that. Zenith commented.

I chuckled a little before explaining. “Brett tends to work mostly in the city while Jack mostly works in the security building or at the training grounds. They do use their offices but not nearly as much as we will.”

“Oh got it. So what’s on the third floor again? That’s Jack’s floor right?”

“It’s not ‘Jack’s’ but it’s reserved for the Gamma and his family. So he lives there with his mate and their kids.”

“Oh yea by the way, thanks for telling me that werewolves call their offspring pups. I felt like an i***t earlier.” I gave Skyler my own confused face waiting for more details, which she provided. “Earlier, Jack said he had two pups and I swear I thought he had like two chihuahuas or something.”

I burst out laughing at the thought of my Gamma holding onto two small chihuahuas barking their heads off at him. Skyler gave me a scowl and a small nudge at my outburst. I did my best to calm down before speaking again. “Sorry I should have explained that sooner. Jack has 2 kids, one is 7 the other is 4. Jack may seem like a big tough guy but he acts like such a goof around his kids. You’ll see it soon enough. But yes, we werewolves tend to reference our offspring as pups.”

“Well luckily I caught that reference when your mom was telling me about the time you ran out of the pack house naked in order to avoid a bath. She called you a wild pup.” Skyler smirked at her attempt to get even. Werewolves are naked frequently so we don’t think much of it, but I’ll let her have this one. “So the third floor is the Gamma family floor…”

“Yeah, then the fourth floor is for the Beta family, so that’s where my Beta Brett and his mate stay.” I continued.

“Do they have any kids?”

“No, not yet. I know Brett wants to have some but I think his mate wants to wait a bit more.”

I hope mate doesn’t want to wait to have pups. Zenith commented. I also grew excited at the thought of having pups with Skyler but I didn’t want to get ahead of myself. I haven’t marked her yet, it’s still too early to have pups.

“I would like to have kids someday.”

Or maybe not as Skyler almost read my mind. “Yea?”

“Well not right now but eventually yea.” Skyler gave me a soft smile that made me excited about our future pups. Zenith’s inner monologue was getting more inappropriate at the sound of Skyler wanting pups.

“Well there will be plenty of room for them when we’re ready. The whole fifth floor is meant for the Alpha and his family.”

“The whole fifth floor is for us?” I couldn’t help the smile that crept onto my face as she thought of the fifth floor being for both of us. Skyler seemed a little shocked as she processed that it was the whole fifth floor. “Does Luna Maribelle live there too?”

“Yes. She was waiting for me to find my mate or until there was someone was the next Luna.”

“What do you mean until someone is the next Luna?”

I let out a sigh before answering. “It’s very unusual for an Alpha to be the Alpha before finding his mate. Lunas tend to have a calming effect on their Alphas, they also help run the pack so having the pair together before taking the title is traditional. But because my dad suddenly died, I had to take it before I found you. The elder council suggested I take a chosen mate instead of finding my destined mate.”

A hint of sadness crossed her face. I took her hand in mine but she spoke before I could. “So they would have paired you with someone just for the sake of having a Luna? They would match you with someone for the rest of your life regardless of how you personal felt?” I nodded my head a little but didn’t say anything, Skyler’s face looked sadder than before. “I’m sorry, that must have been difficult for you.”

“All that is in the past, I found you and I couldn’t be happier.” I pulled her in for a hug and let the sparks from touching her skin radiate through me. Everything about her being in my arms just felt right.

We stayed like that for a moment until she slowly pulled away. “Alright, Alpha. Before we get into any deeper topics, I need some food.”

I chuckled and got up from my chair. We walked over to the buffet and grabbed our food before sitting back down. We continued to talk, some people joined us and introduced themselves to Skyler. She was gracious to everyone that welcomed her. I could see some pack members staring at Skyler, but keeping their distance. The sustain in their eyes made Zenith growl a warning which sent them scurrying away. Good thing Skyler didn’t notice.

We sat there making small talk with some of the pack member until Skyler leaned in and whispered in my ear. “Do you think we could get out of here?” She still has a smile on but I could tell she was getting tired.

Before the next couple of people came over to us, I got up and offered my mate a hand. “I’m sorry but I’ll be taking my mate for a bit.” I said to the pack members approaching us. Skyler grabbed my hand and I escorted her out of the dining room. We walked up to the stairs and started our climb.

“Thank you, I don’t mind meeting new people it’s just that today has been a long day. I’m just a bit tired.” Without hesitation I scooped Skyler up in my arms and carried her up the stairs. The shock on Skyler’s face was priceless. “What are you doing?!?”

“You said you were tired.” I returned with a mischievous grin.

“I can still walk.”

“Nope.” I started taking the stairs two at a time until we made it to the top floor. I still carried Skyler all the way to the door of my…I mean our room. Once I opened the door I put Skyler down. Her hands with were originally wrapped around my neck were now covering her mouth as she looked around the room. I couldn’t help but chuckle to myself at her reaction, she was like this with every room we went in today.

She took a couple steps around the room before turning back to me. “Kanto, is there any place in this house that isn’t beautiful?”

“The most beautiful thing in this house is you. Nothing else can compare.” I said as I wrapped my arms around her. She then wrapped her arms around my neck and got on her tip toes to pull me down. I lowered my head to plant a kiss on her soft lips. Tingles from the back of my neck went down through my body as she deepened the kiss. I couldn’t help but lift her up in my arms. She instinctively wrapped her legs around my waist, which made me release a growl of pleasure.

I walked further into the room and place Skyler on her back on the bed without breaking our kiss. I trapped her between my arms, but I was still trapped between her legs. I felt her lips open wider inviting me in to explore her mouth with my tongue. She returned the curiosity as our tongue mingled together.

Mate her and mark her now. Zenith was getting restless and trying to push himself forward but I wouldn’t let him. But forcing Zenith back got more difficult when Skyler started grinding her hips on me. I could feel my pants tightening as I got harder with every movement. Resisting my urge to make her mine was getting more difficult.

I slipped my hand underneath her shirt, the feel of her bare skin sending pleasure sparks through my body. Skyler copied my movements and slid her hands under my shirt as well. Our hands explored each other until Skyler pulled away and removed her hands. I thought she was going to say something but instead she lifted her shirt above her head and threw it to the side. I took my shirt off and quickly scooped my mate in my arms again. My hands quickly found the clasp of her bra and make short work of removing it. I sat Skyler up on my lap and with one hand on her back I massaged her breast with the other.

She let out small moans between kisses which drove me wild. I wanted more of her, I needed more of her. I trailed my lips down from hers and continued down to her neck. I planted a kiss on her marking spot which caused her to stop moving her hips and hold her breath. I could feel that she was nervous about my mouth being on that spot.

I let out a low chuckle. “Don’t worry my beautiful mate, I won’t do that until you ask me to.” It took a lot more willpower to keep on moving my lips down my mates body. My lips didn’t stop until her n****e was in my mouth. I sucked while flicking it with my tongue. Skyler threw her head back in enjoyment, her hands gently tugging at my hair.

I could feel her core getting warmer and her scent got stronger. Her panting was driving me insane with desire. Zenith kept trying to push himself forward, it was becoming too much for me to control him. I removed my lips from her breast and gently kissed her lips again and then her forehead before pulling her body against mine.

“I think it’s best we stop here.” I said reluctantly, I definitely didn’t want to stop but I wouldn’t be able to stop if we went any further.

“That’s probably a good idea.” Skyler said slightly out of breath. “If we didn’t stop now I would certainly devour you.”

Devour her now, make her ours. She riled up Zenith who was pissed at my decision to stop. Her saying she wouldn’t be able to control herself made me groan in agony.

Skyler let out a light giggle. “I’m sorry.” She said into my chest, I could feel her eyelashes flicker against me as if she were forcing herself to stay awake. “I just need more time before I let you mark me. It’s not you I’m just trying to adjust to my new life.”

I pulled us down onto the bed so we were cuddle up with Skyler on top of me. I ran my hand through her hand and down her back. “I’ll give you all the time you need, I don’t want to push you into something you don’t want to do.”

“Thank you Kanto.” Her words were soft and filled with sleepiness. “For everything. I may not be ready yet, but I know I want to be with you. ” She squirmed little bit more in my arms until she found a comfortable position. I squeezed her a little bit more in my arms and kissed the top of her head as she fell asleep. I just stared at my little mate as she slept peacefully. I want this moment to last forever, I wanted her always here by my side peacefully existing.

Little mate is perfect. Zenith whispered as if Skyler could hear him. I couldn’t help but agree with him, I never imagine such a person existing. It’s weird I’ve spent most of my life just thinking I’d find my mate and be moderately happy, not much would change in my demeanor. But here I was, head over heels obsessed with this small creature in my arms. This feeling was overwhelming but I didn’t want it to go away. I carefully moved a bit to settle in to go to sleep next to my mate.

Alpha. It’s urgent. Jack’s voice rung in my head over mind-link.

What is it? I tried not to sound angry at my Gamma doing his job.

A member of the Steelridge Pack was spotted in the city. I felt my anger rise.

Who was it? I growled back.

We believe that he was the future Beta of the pack before it was disbanded. Jack paused to give me a moment to think. If the Beta of the Steelridge pack is in the city, then—

We can assume their new Alpha is there too. I finished for him. Or that he is nearby.

There have been no sightings of the Alpha yet. Jack reported.

It can’t be a coincidence that rogues have been spotted recently and now the Beta. Our theory of the Steelridge pack using rogues must be true. I concluded.

What would you like to do Alpha?

I remained silent for a moment to think about the best possible move. Keep an eye on the Beta without being caught. I want to know his movements as well as who he interacts with. Assign extra guards at the Boterea building to protect the pack members that work and live in the city. The pack has already been receiving extra training but inform the pack members from the city to keep their guard up.

I don’t think the Steelridge pack would attack us in the city. Jack interrupted.

I agree, I think they are going after a bigger prize. But I don’t want to rule it out completely. Just inform them that rogues may wander towards the city and have them stay vigilant of their surroundings.

What bigger prize do you think he would be after? I know he wants to destroy our pack but what would be in the city for him to do that? Jack asked.

We need to find out, but for now focus on following the Beta. I said before ending the mind-link.

Skyler squirmed a little bit in my arms “Are you ok, Kanto?” She mumbled softly without opening her eyes.

“Everything’s fine, go back to sleep.” I ran a hand through her hair as reassurance.

“Liar.” I felt her mouth move into a smile against my chest. “But you’ll tell me in the morning right?”

My clever little mate. “Yes I’ll tell you in the morning.”

“Good. Good night.” Her voice trailed off as she fell back asleep.

I wanted to focus on Skyler being in my arms but my mind kept trailing back to what Jack asked. I had a suspicious on what the Alpha of the Steelridge pack wanted and there was no way he was going to get it.

If he even tries to touch little mate, I rip his arms off. Zenith growled.

It’s a good thing she’s at the pack house now. He won’t be bold enough to come here until he knows exactly how to attack. But by then little mate won’t be anywhere near that fight. I mentally said to appease my wolf.

It would be better if we mated and marked her. We would be stronger and able to protect her even better. It’s true that mates gain extra strength once they are mated and marked but I couldn’t do that to Skyler yet. She has a whole world to adjust to not to mention she’s only known me for about a month now. Humans tend to take their time in relationships and really know their partners. They don’t have a mate-bond that tells them their partner is the perfect match for them like werewolves do. So marking and mating her now would go against everything she was raised to believe about relationships and I don’t want to change her. I just hope that soon she will accept me, but I would gladly wait forever for her.

I tightened my grip around my mate, I nuzzled my head next to hers taking in her fruity scent. Zenith calmed down as the strawberry and papaya was the only smell in my nose. My mind started to relax until I drifted off to sleep.
